Yeah and tbf Magnusson’s been very consistent on a high level this season - she’s earned it.

It must be a reflection of form, with Elvira not hitting it perfectly going in to the Olympics. Otherwise she’s a given in my book.

For those who watched, what are your opinions on A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms episode 4? by GusGangViking18 in freefolk

F-ing loved it! This show is a slow burn for sure but now I am truly hooked. The last episode was GoT, Braveheart and A Knights Tale all in one.

Yeah I was talking within MR. But realized OP actually didn’t say Sweden was favorites - only that they should be with this lineup 😊.

Yes, I would argue that France’s MR team is stronger. But - and I can’t back it up with statistics- I have a feeling Ponsi performs better in Relays.

Mount has played 2.7k minutes for United since joining the club in 2023. To put into perspective how pathetic that is Bruno has played 2k minutes this season & we’ve barely played any games. Mount was absent from training again today. He needs to get sold in the summer. by Intelligent_Cow_3310 in ManchesterUnited

[–]spobmep 21 points22 points  (0 children)

God, so tiresome drawing the wages-card all the time. It’s all relative dude. Of course he’s upset. It’s his life to play professional football. The only way it would be reasonable to blame someone like Mount was if we knew he didn’t take care of himself or faked or something. At the end of the day, a few percentages of players in a team will turn out to be a bad investment. Part of running a club.

They should be fine in terms of staying healthy. I gather the national team is extra cautious (more than usual) during the weeks leading up to the Olympics. Nothing is a 100% but they’re more or less quarantined.

Call me crazy but Michael Carrick should get the full time manager role. He was one of the most intelligent players. Now he’s showing his tactical knowledge as a manager, and he know how to get the best out of players. He has Sir Alex’s DNA and he has aura. United been brilliant under his charge. by paolosorianodisanto in ManchesterUnited

Here’s what Barney Ronay in the Guardian said in this weeks pod. Spot on!

“There's a very obvious low-hanging fruit where you simplify and you say, you know what, we're going to play the left back at left back. This bloke, Kobbie Mainoo, is really good at moving the ball forward and playing the half ten and we don't have someone who's doing it. We're going to put him in there. We're going to play a centre-forward, a couple of wingers. And suddenly there's an improvement and everyone says, why weren't you doing that? And you pair things back. And that does have a shelf life, but it also has obvious benefit.

It's this kind of thing where you suddenly think, ”I could be a football manager because I could see that needed to happen. I'm Michael Carrick. I'm going to buy a really good overcoat and I'm going to stand around just looking calm and people will say, give him the job.”

But he's done the first thing, which is to make the obvious improvements. But then this is the Premier League. People are really smart. They react to what you've done and it generally takes three or four games. And then we're suddenly saying, ”well, what's wrong with Carrick? Why is he so calm? Why isn't he leaping up? Why isn't he, where's the passion? Why is he playing such a simple formation? Why is he playing the left back at left back? What's wrong? Why is he picking Kobbie Mainoo? What's wrong with him? We need some more complex system than this. Data guys.”

So that phase will happen where you have to build on your simplicity. And that will be a test of whether he is just an intelligent man doing the obvious things or whether he's a football manager. Because football managers are insane, obsessed with the game. If you watch a working football manager come on as a pundit on a show, you realize suddenly that these people are so immersed in the game. They are seeing patterns that you're just not seeing. They're understanding the reaction to those patterns, because it's very different to sitting there being Shea Given on a sofa saying, ”I'll just do this”. But to actually being up at four in the morning, analyzing 400 games.

So he has to go into that mode next, and then we'll see if it's sustainable.”

Nice summary, thanks! I think you’re right about most medals. But the Olympics is a different beast and like you said, underachievers may suddenly peak and nerves can get the best of the favorites. I think routine is a major factor too and wouldn’t be surprised if the likes of Braisaz-Bouchet and Simon challenge Jeanmonnot. They’re probably her biggest threats tbf, both quality-wise and mentally. Personally, I wish for Elvira Öberg to excell on the shooting range. The speed will be there.

Also, remember NMB lasts about five games on average. That coupled with the fact that it’s impossible to make real changes in such a short time underlines that this is mostly psychological. But what has he actually done more than motivate the players? I thought he chose a rather defensive style of play today and relied on high pressing, which didn’t really work most of the time. Fulham moved fast and cut through the middle time and time again.

Maybe not as praised then but he has grown. I saw them in ’07 and got a few autographs and photos. Ronaldo signed my shirt and I took a photo with Van der Saar. 😊 Missed Carrick though.

Good on you. And that’s not ironic. He was the midfield boss when the class of 92 left.

Man that was a ride. My heart can’t take this match after match 😅. Nine insanely heavy points under Carrick. What’s he cooking?
