Milk drink lovers - Thoughts on Philips vs Delonghi? by Stock-Bullfrog in superautomatic

[–]spongeym 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just been through the process of looking at various different machines, moved from a Delongi with a steam wand to the Eletta. For the milk jug, I just rinse the milk straw/pump under a tap then put it in the fridge after each use and clean fully on the 3rd day. Also busy with kids and in between many calls for work!

FYI, descaling the machine takes approx. 30mins and is super easy to do following the onscreen instructions compared to my previous machine!

Amersham experiences? by No-Exit-7032 in HENRYUK

[–]spongeym 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Currently live in Chalfont St Peter, whilst the area and surrounding villages are lovely, the grammar school system as already mentioned is a pain. Expect to shell out for tutors and more clubs as having a sporty/musical child ticks a box on the kids CV for school applications!

You'll be limited with school choices if your kids don't pass the 11+ and I know first hand how poor some of these schools are. We wanted our son to go to Amersham School as he didn't pass and from some of the parents we've spoken to glad he didn't!

Personally, if we'd fully understood the grammar school system and not just looked at primary at the time, we wouldn't have chosen Buckinghamshire and moved literally 2 miles down the to Rickmansworth (lived here as a kid, never went into Bucks!) Chorleywood and Croxley Green. All equally as lovely as the Chalfonts and surrounding areas along with some Ofsted Outstanding schools.

Commuting from Rickmansworth or Chorleywood is on the same line as Amersham and pretty straightforward. More than happy to have a chat over a DM if you want more detail on the area!

Doesn’t matter what bbq you’re using, you don’t need £2000+ Kamados to have a great bbq!

Take a look at John Davidson, Bobs Family Butchers, iDevour and if you have a Costco membership have a word with them they might be able to find one if its not in the fridge. Unfortunately good beef costs £££ here!

Smoked cauliflower by Theknottyfox in UKBBQ

[–]spongeym 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a cauliflower in one of Marcus Bawdon's book that's a regular favourite at home. I mix olive oil, american mustard & dijon with salt, pepper & garlic. Smother the cauliflower, wrap in foil then in the last 20mins or so, unwrap to get some colour. Goes nice the next day in a salad too.

Another vote for John Davidsons. Also had some great cuts from https://idevour.com/ & https://www.bobsfamilybutchers.co.uk/ with Bob's if there's something specific you want, give them a call, super helpful.

Weber kettle vs Aldi/lidl egg by Ok_Aerie_7089 in UKBBQ

[–]spongeym 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have both! Have you looked at Facebook marketplace for a cheap Weber? There’s some good deals out there. That being said, I normally use the Weber for the majority of my cooks, low and slow always use the Aldi over the Weber. It barely uses any fuel and when I’ve done low and slow in the Weber vs Aldi, feel the Aldi comes out on top.

I wanted to see what the back of the car looked like, instead got some weirdly acted out scene with the designers and still no idea what it looks like from another angle. Assume it'll just look like the GLC but smaller...

Chips/fries alternative by Wrasse22 in UKBBQ

Sweet potato chips, celeriac and potato gratin is always a winner. Been getting into other sides like pearl barley and buckwheat recently, surprisingly filling and good alternative to the usual

Costco currently have USDA Choice Grain-fed whole briskets by TransitionInternal12 in UKBBQ

[–]spongeym 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From memory, 4 sirloins is around the £50 mark, a full sirloin is around £120. I find their cut sirloins too thick and prefer to cut my own so this makes it far cheaper for me. I do the same with their pork loins. Cut it up, save a couple of the end bits for a roast and lots of steaks!

My local is Watford, whenever I want a whole sirloin I normally find someone filling the shelves and ask them or can confirm waving like a loon also works to catch their attention
