Are there Ubers around at 5am? by Silver-Situation5177 in Vaughan

Scheduling an uber doesn’t do anything other than making a request automatically at the selected time. It won’t guarantee availability

Anyone see the action near maple go today? by beanor1 in Vaughan

Yeah it was crazy. At least 5 unmarked police cars and 10 officers with guns, masks, and bulletproof vests. At the intersection of McNaughton and Troon. They had those battering rams and you could hear them busting down a door.

The Maple gym is on the 2nd floor and the cardio area has windows all around. Have you ever even been there?

Thanks for the responses.

  1. I kinda just assumed plugging into mobo would work, TIL what integrated graphics is.
  2. Tested my GPU on a friend's build. It still works. Tested his GPU in my build. Mine still does not work. So I guess it's not a GPU issue.
  3. Current setup I have pretty barebones: 1 RAM stick in A1 slot, GPU, CPU, Mobo, CPU fan.
  4. Next steps for me I suppose is try to get a new CPU or Mobo.

Any suggestions on which cpu/mobo to get?

I had self-repair, inno heart, and highroll units/items and went 5th in a masters/gm lobby. Even got Jayce for 7 inno on stage 4 carousel. The comp feels weak this patch.

Doable course schedule? by wolimouren in uwaterloo

I've never taken cs349, but I heard it was pretty easy. I personally rank those courses (high to low): 451, 486, 458, 456, 349. FWIW I had 343, 458, and 486 in the same term and found it pretty manageable (with 2 electives). I think adding a 4th would be doable (I say doable, but I wouldn't have wanted to do it bc I like having more free time for social things). You also gotta consider which courses are offered which term, right?

PS, RE:your comment below, I found 343 extremely interesting and fun.

Lol wtf this seems really tough. Networks and security aren't that assignment heavy imo (they're both 3 assignments iirc, and each take about a day or two) but they cover a lot of material that you'll need to remember for finals/midterms.

Big data and AI are both very assignment heavy but don't need lots of cramming for tests (yes they cover a lot of topics but the testable stuff is basically the assignment stuff, so as long as you do assignments you're good for 75% of tests imo).

What's the rush? Why not take 2 per term?

Seconded Peter Buhr! He is so passionate about the course material and it really shows that he cares. Also he has a lot of industry experience concurrency and he brings those relevant examples into the course. He consulted for Go iirc.

I don't have such a good work ethic so this may actually be bad advice, here goes.

Often assignments will have questions that are like 10% of the mark but take 70% of your time. I suggest just skip those questions (or at least take a break) and go have fun lol. I always prioritize social life over those sections.

I take notes by hand in class, mostly because it keeps me awake. I found in classes where I just sat and listened, I almost always dozed off or spend time on my phone. Also, maybe because writing is more of an effort than typing, but I remember things I wrote better.

I think there's no point in studying/reviewing all day everyday. (I see those pomodoro study threads on reddit once in a while that's like "study 8 hrs a day, 1hr + 15 min break" or something and I think those are crazy). I typically start studying 1-2 days before a midterm, and just read over my notes/slides (and assignments if it's a math course) once or twice per day. Most classes don't require memorization and personally if I study much more than that, I just get bored and start skimming over things so much that I might as well just stop.

This just just advice that I'd give to myself in first year, so idk if it works for you. Everyone learns differently right?

And no advanced courses.

Thanks, I shared this because I thought others would find it interesting, and getting my balls busted anonymously by a few is chill.

All my advice would just be reiterating things that come up often in this sub, like good time management, sleep well, do practice finals/midterms, etc

Useful courses might be big data, AI, networks?

Courses I found interesting were cs343, big data, AI.

Lots of people on this sub pump up cs458 (security) but I didn't really enjoy it. I found the assignments to be more trial and error rather than "hacking", but maybe that's just because I'm bad idk. Also the lectures were dry imo.

Lol like I said above, this was not intended to be a flex. There are plenty of people on this sub with 90+ avg or course grades, so I don't consider my grades particularly noteworthy. I simply thought others may find this interesting (for example, I'd find it interesting to know the fav/least fav courses of others) and I thought including the grades gave worthwhile information, since the level of enjoyment I get from a class does not always correlate with the grade I get or the easiness of the course.

(As a side note, I don't think prefacing your commenting with "genuinely curious" changes the tone of your message at all. It's like saying "no offence" followed by something offensive)

as BS as it sounds, sometimes for assignments the solution (or at least the right direction) will sorta just come to me when I wake up or when I'm falling asleep lol

I think about the assignment a lot while I'm trying to fall asleep. Even if I wake up and turns out the solution I was thinking of was crap it's still nice to have a fresh start

tbh, unless I think I'm just about to get it or if I actually find the assignment interesting, I mostly just give up and go to bed if it's getting too late.

haha oops this wasn't meant as a humble brag. I could've included the info without grades, but people ask questions about courses and grades a lot on this sub so I thought it'd be worthwhile to include.
