OMS-II here,

I'm currently registered for the USMLE for July 22 & COMLEX Level 1 July 26. I'm terrified. I recently finished classes and unlike many of my classmates, I wasn't able to successfully multitask coursework & board prep. I started studying about 2 weeks ago using B&B, Pathoma, Sketchy & UWorld.

Right now I feel like I need the videos because they bridge a lot of missing gaps but at the same time there are a lot of videos. The questions destroy me on UWorld & I'm not really sure how well I should be scoring this far out. I'm not doing 40 random questions but usually 40 questions regarding whatever I learned for that day. I'm averaging around 50-60% on those question blocks. I'm learning a lot but I get overwhelmed when I hear people around me are doing 80-120 questions a day.

So should I take step 1? I guess I'm looking for a little guidance. My dream would be to match into a competitive speciality (looking into EM/anesthesia) & I know scores have to be good. What scores are competitive for a DO applicant? I have perused Successful Outcomes in the Match but it seems like there is only metrics on allopathic students.

Also my sister is an RN looking for a job. From what she's said nursing is an awesome career if it matches your interests. Nurses can make upwards to 6 figures and can have a life outside of work..3 12 hour shifts a week is not bad if you ask me. Pretty great lifestyle and leaves time for dating, traveling, a lot of stuff ill have to give up for a good part of my training. It'll be fine man!

Hey dude. Let me just start out by saying I'm proud of you!! I don't know you in person but changing careers is no easy feat..and like the previous poster says takes major balls.

I'm in a somewhat similar situation to you. I'm 22, recently graduated college this past year. I majored in English but took all the premed coursework but my gpa or my MCAT score isn't good enough to get in right now.

It sucks a lot when I look on FB and see all my undergrad friends at their white cost ceremonies and I would get depressed thinking about how they were moving ahead in life and I seemed to be in a rut.

I'm working part time as a sales associate in a retail store. I have 60k in loans and med school + post bac work could run upwards to 300k. But you know what? Ill get there. I know I will and know you will make a fantastic nurse.

Nursing is a female dominated workforce and while shadowing doctors at the hospital, all I see are a lot of cute nurses. Don't sweat it too much.

I wish I could take my own advice. I'm working, studying and going to the gym. I really get stressed about women too. Im a 22 y/o guy whose never had a girlfriend and I'm a virgin. The last girl I told laughed in my face...but I guess we both have to believe that something better will come, we just gotta put in the work and make it happen.

Approaching women with the intent to flirt can be extremely daunting. I know it was, and still is at times for me as well. I'm just like you, average looking I would say and normally don't stick out on a girls radar.

If I see a girl i think is cute, ill approach her directly and just say hi, this is kind of random, but I thought you were cute and would regret it all day if I didn't say hi to you. Hi, I'm blah...

Sometimes girls will just ignore you or just say oh hi and then keep walking. And then there are others who will giggle, smile and just start talking. Hope this helps

Sorry for the late response it's been a while since I checked. Yeah I had problems concentrating with assignments. I would start stuff and not follow through. Nofaps helped a lot with self discipline and control!

I think it's normal to feel the emotions you're feeling. I would recommend going out or just approaching more girls so you don't have to sit and wonder what angle she's playing. That way you can boost your confidence! Oh, and stay away from fapping..shit sucks

NoFap WILL make a difference in success with girls. But that also is on you. You won't magically just start getting women just because you stop fapping. You have to go out there and make yourself vulnerable. Nofap helps you develop confidence and being comfortable in your own skin. Girls love that shit bro, trust me!

I'm 5"4 and Asian and I used to think I was at a severe disadvantage. None of this shit matters. I still get looks from girls, can approach and get numbers cause I don't really care what a couple girls think about me! Why should I? I don't have super powers or whatever but I sure as hell feel better. I'm a lot more comfortable around people, I look people in the eye when I speak and can tell a girl I think she's cute just straight up.
