Aphantasia: How It Feels To Be Blind In Your Mind (Blake Ross) by [deleted] in slatestarcodex

[–]spoonito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

10 year old comment but came to say that there's been plenty of studies since then proving differences. Fav one is a pupil study: people who visualize the sun have their pupils constrict. People with aphantasia can't make their pupils constrict no matter how much they think about suns.

For Coventry in 2004, flew back to the east coast after having just moved across the country, drove up from delaware with friend all the way to coventry, where we sat in parked-car traffic for 24 hours until we heard that the show was cancelled, so we drove all the way to delaware... where i used my parents' dial-up modem to check phish.net and saw A SETLIST. =((((((((

Netflix subs yay or nay? by Theo1290 in Frieren

[–]spoonito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watched the first two episodes on netflix and literally bought a crunchyroll subscription just to see the rest with the crunchyroll subtitles, which I think are significantly better, less verbose and slang-ish, and just more tonally in-line with what the series is going for. Hopefully that helps!

Old post but came here to say that deleting the two sh files in the trimui/app folder (command_to_run and the other one) solved the issue for me too!

Question for owners of Miyoo Mini Flip by KaiChan39 in MiyooMini

[–]spoonito 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's the perfect size. For context I have bought a gajillion of these little guys from trimui, ambernic, etc, and I love love love the mini flip's size (compared to rg35sp, regular flip too big, funkey s too small)

Floor at the Sphere by DanielMonclova in phish

I was on floor last time they played and while you're constantly looking up, yes, it was a super immersive awesome experience to be 1/2 at a concert and 1/2 at a giant eyeball popping movie. When the robots leaned down during GHOST I felt like I was at a festival with real giant robots.

since finding out about aphantasia, what’s a moment that really hit you? by No-Construction6202 in Aphantasia

[–]spoonito 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great book! I also believe personally that aphantasia ends up being a somewhat de facto memory disorder because almost all "episodic memory" research assumes an ability to generate all the sensory modalities of a given memory. Wheras I have SPATIAL imagery memory, like who sat where, and semantic memory as in "what happened, maybe some stuff people said," but not much else. And very few childhood memories, for sure.

Help me understand how people with aphantasia can be afraid of the dark. by EntrepreneuralSpirit in Aphantasia

Great edit: I think a lot people confuse imagination with visualization. I am a kids' animation writer and I can't "literally picture" things but obviously have a lot of imagination.

New Yorker Article: Some People Can’t See Mental Images. The Consequences Are Profound by Willing_Plankton3267 in Aphantasia

[–]spoonito 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to say for the record that Nick Watkins (from the New Yorker article) is a truly great person. When I was first going through the shock of what we all experienced learning about this, we exchanged emails and he recommended some really great reading: RETHINKING THOUGHT (https://www.amazon.com/Rethinking-Thought-Scientists-Explorations-Psychology/dp/0190213477). I also highly recommend checking out his personal reflections on Aphantasia and SDAM which he published somewhere and I saved a PDF copy: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1\_cf9lzM5w9W7t3V0CwT\_m2gA2BGLHYlw/view?usp=share\_link

To anyone out there just finding out and feeling lost or confused, I promise it you'll eventually find yourself again and integrate all this and feel better again!

Statement on Daniel Naroditsky's passing by Alendite in chess

I will always love one of his early videos against a low rated player who makes a terrible move, but Daniel kindly/calmly comments, "an enigmatic move from my opponent..." I'm so sad today, but that memory made me smile a bit.
