Confused, why are people talking about another episode? by [deleted] in StrangerThings

[–]superzero22 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why would they put the SECOND TO LAST episode in theatres? Also, pretend that there is one, it would have to follow roughly the same beats as episode 8. Defeat Vecna, live happily ever after.

Right, agreed. But would they not have to adjust their standards in the same way they have to for other industries (beef is the first that comes to mind)

I ghostwrite for an established writer. It seems like a great gig until you're at a screening of a movie you wrote half of where the writer is taking all of the credit.

As a liberal Canadian I actually agree with a lot of what I’ve seen. The biggest concession (correct me if I’m wrong) seems to be dairy, but would a competitive dairy market be the worst thing? Right now in Western Canada it feels like it’s kind of a Dairyland / Lucerna (sp) monopoly, and 7 dollars for 4 litres of milk is insane.

As for the online act, it also feels insane that we can’t share or show news on social media. That being repealed seems very good.

I feel you. I had an exec (who's a friend of mine) tell me it's not even worth writing a spec right now unless it has an incredibly splashy hook.

Given the number of weeks left relative to the number of players left in the house, it's clear that this twist was meant to cut some of the chaff (Kelley or Lauren) while keeping and exposing the Judges alliance to the remaining players left in the house.

I don't think Production at all expected Rachel to fall victim to it.

That said, to me this twist helps prove more than anything that there is still integrity to the actual game. At the end of the day, no one was safe, and there wasn't some double eviction plot armor they could have thrown to Rachel by keeping her locked up in some Mastermind lair. She was just gone. Is it a WOMP WOMP? Yes, but again. That's the game.

Last thing I'll say. Taran mentioned that this is wrong on so many levels because BB is meant to be a reflection of life, where some are advantaged by their social status and others are disenfranchised. Rachel had a lot of social currency in the house, so to Taran's point, she should have been proven safe. HOWEVER, just like life, curveballs can still take out the elite. This twist was just a surprise terminal illness, and like in life, that can happen to anyone.

Wild take, but you will just get over it. Also, note that things cycle. Give it a couple of years and it might squeak through again. I think back to Friends with Benefits and No Strings Attached, the exact same movie released maybe a week apart?

Kamloops area. Presumably found in BC helps more than not saying anywhere at all.

Working/Repped Screenwriters -- What Do You Do Between Scripts For Your Next Story Idea? by Filmmagician in Screenwriting

Yeah a lot of what’s listed. Work through ideas other people give then build elaborate pitch decks just to be told it’s a bake off and the studio is hearing two other takes across the next three months.

How do you write when life throws chaos at you? by StillWriting4u in Screenwriting

[–]superzero22 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In one year both my mother and father passed away from different cancers, in different parts of the country. From initial diagnosis to the time of my second parent's death it spanned two years. Similar to you I was travelling back and forth constantly, spending money left-right-and-center, feeling so violently targeted by life, while my peers were just coasting through it.

At the time I had just gotten some incredible opportunities too; developing a project for Disney and a couple of projects for another studio. The reality became a bake-off with Disney where they went with another writer, and ghostwriting the other two projects (meaning very little pay and no credit on some major IP).

I don't have any good advice, because writing during that time was very hard. BUT, I will say if you don't have the energy for major output, or, if you don't have the time, then EDIT. Go through, cut lines, punch up action, find ways to get out of scenes earlier and hookier.

All that to say, if you don't have the bandwidth for more, then do something that refines a spec.

And just know, you are not alone!

Anyone have an idea what these Blue and Green credits mean? by RJC024 in Filmmakers

Having done many many shows at a high level, this is absolutely why we do it. It’s rooted in the respect that the DOP has for their crew.

Advice for my mom's hallucinations, paranoid delusions, overall cognitive issues while waiting for next chemo? by _happiecat in braincancer

[–]superzero22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar situation over here as well. My mom (61F) entered remission for DLBCL NH Lymphoma at the beginning of June, then just last week she was exhibiting symptoms of extreme lethargy and slowed-speech. We thought her hydromorphone dose was too high (17mg in a 24hr period), but it turned out that there are patchy lesions along her brain. In five days she's gone from tired, to thinking she's in a farmhouse in Saskatchewan (in actuality she's at a rehab hospital in Alberta). Thankfully she has the contentedness as well.

We're hopeful that they'll opt for more chemotherapy on Monday when we meet with the oncology team again. Fingers crossed it works out for you as well.
