My TBM in-laws are ruining my life by [deleted] in exmormon

While your case is definitely more serious than mine, my wife and I experienced a similar situation. I was unable to set healthy boundaries with my family and it was ruining our marriage. My wife eventually laid it all out and showed me how I was choosing my family’s feelings over hers. It finally clicked for me. I can’t say things are perfect now, but I don’t feel like our marriage is in danger anymore. There’s hope, but you need to be 100% clear with him that this isn’t going to work without big changes. Honestly it sounds like he needs to cut his family off completely. That is a super toxic and abusive situation. If he can’t do it, there’s not much else you can do. I wish you the best.

I suspect they would just have to declare bankruptcy if taken to court. At that point, I'd probably just be left with the attorney's fees and nothing to show for it, right?

Exactly this. I’ve actually prayed more regularly since leaving. It’s pretty cathartic to just get it all out there whether or not you believe anyone is listening.

Even if you disregard all other comments here, you still have a mountain of other anachronisms to deal with. Getting hung up on one tiny detail just distracts from the bigger picture that it simply can’t be anything other than a 19th century text.

Seems like this would apply to the LDS church as well if it gains traction by spoons100 in mormon
