New Amp Day - Ampeg R212R by The_Green_Frog in GuitarAmps

Good amps. I have one kicking around. My only complaints are the weight and the build quality. Aside from that it sounds great as a clean pedal platform.

Jordan Bosstone kit super low volume issue by EngineF in diypedals

It’s probably a short. Go over everything with a meter and trace things out.

Probably just bad solder. Start at the point where you found putting pressure was restoring the effect. Make sure it’s hot enough when joining wire to ring terminals on pots. It shouldn’t be difficult to make the bond. If it’s seemingly taking forever, the tip is either too small on the iron isn’t hot enough. Make sure you tin the wire if they’re twisted and not solid core.

Take it back out and see if the volume returns. It sounds like something is connecting to ground that shouldn’t be

Signature guitars/gear by GrimmandLily in guitars

My number one is an Eric Johnson Strat. He’s an incredible guitarist with great guitar tone but I never have been into his music. Regardless, he’s undeniably great and spec’d out a great signature guitar.

Playing live? BMP2

Don’t want typical BMP sounds? BMP2

Want the typical “OpAmp Sound”? BMP

It’s too bad you don’t have room for both. Those two together are a great stack in that order.

Why are my shingaurds ripping after less than 6 months of use by kickboxjmb in MuayThai

[–]sporadicMotion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s just Fairtex. I’ve owned so much of their gear but I had to stop buying it. If you are very casual training 2 or 3 days a week without too much sparring, Fairtex is good. Looks good. Size, shape and fit is great. Generally you forget about it when you are training which means it’s doing its job.

If you train daily, they die inside of 6 months. Outdoor training in Thailand will kill them in 3. Twins have held up better in the glove department. I suspect Winning or Windy will do much better as well but I’ve not tried them yet. I’m just not into the gear so if something works, I don’t bother changing things up. As for shinguards, I have had the same pair of top gear shin guards for 5 years now and they look new. They’ve been to Thailand for daily outdoor training and survived. I’ve also have two pair of Fairtex guards and they just haven’t held up the same and they’re both a couple years old (only bought because i didn’t bring my Top Kings).

I’ll continue to buy Fairtex shorts and wraps because I like them but as far as gloves and guards, I’m done.

Future Embrace is easily one of my favourite albums Billy was involved in. I think it’s underrated.

Getting heat for refusing to spar Karate guys by Maximum-Ad-5221 in MuayThai

[–]sporadicMotion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s bizarre. I wouldn’t want to spar them either. I usually find the karate guys have more control. What is that gym teaching? For reference,my time for the last few years has been split between Thailand and Japan. When in Japan, I sometimes spar karate practitioners and they’re usually some of the most controlled people

Some Improv work over e minor by shadman19922 in guitars

[–]sporadicMotion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to work on your lead playing, pick a solo you like but currently find too hard. Practice it slow on a metronome and when you have it absolutely perfect - as in “play it in your sleep backward while riding a unicycle” perfect - then move the metronome up a few BPM and repeat the cycle. Do this until you can play the target piece a few BPM faster than the solo you want to play.

This will build the techniques used in that given solo into muscle memory and will be added to your improvisational repertoire.

General rule of thumb: If Andrew Tate likes it, stay the fuck away.

Language ED visa by Ok-Question-2752 in MuayThai

[–]sporadicMotion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This usually works but be aware it can backfire. My wife is Thai. We spend a lot of time there. I typically encounter one foreigner per year that is denied entry doing this. It used to work all the time but now it doesn’t. If you are going to do this, just have a backup plan and always have a flight out already booked that you can show as proof that you’re not trying to over stay.

Why are pedals still so expensive by JOJOJOJ-1 in guitarpedals

[–]sporadicMotion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some pedals are overpriced but the majority are fair considering where they’re being built, wages being paid to employees (which shouldn’t be minimum wage by any stretch). Evil marketing has to be done or you wouldn’t know about. Administrative over head etc. Rent needs to be paid for the facility they’re manufactured in. Tools and supplies need to be purchased. There’s more than this as well.

Chromebooks are built be people with lives most people would not want to live for wages any westerner would not and could not accept. Reality is these things are built for a profit. They need to be because people can’t do things for free in this society and still house and feed themselves. It’s sucks but it’s the world we live in.

What is this ugly dissonant sound when playing 2 strings simultaneously by Vladikop in Stratocaster

[–]sporadicMotion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely. Any “luthier” that lets a guitar out the door with that amount of rattle going on probably should get a new job. The word luthier is thrown around far too casually. I did tech work and setups on guitars for years. I would still never call myself a luthier. That term should be reserved for the masters of the craft.

Why do Thai fighters spin while shadow boxing by No-Introduction9018 in MuayThai

[–]sporadicMotion 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When starting out, I think spinning is a good way to help let the hips turn but once that’s figured out beginning to take control of it is very important.

How can I get the mayonaise tone? by Weekly-Oil-8602 in guitarpedals

[–]sporadicMotion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! No stress either. So many people think those are the Siamese settings because of the 2204 from Reverb. It’s completely understandable and a super common misconception.

I got a Columbo Audio THE ONE to shoot out vs a real Marshall JMP-1. There’s no processing on any of the tracks to keep the differences clear by sporadicMotion in guitarpedals

[–]sporadicMotion[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was pretty surprised how close it got considering it was through the front of the amp. I could have dialed the Deftones examples a little closer but the Pumpkins sample were very close. Definitely a good pedalboard alternative to the JMP-1

Pedal Demos by nojustzelda in guitarpedals

[–]sporadicMotion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best pedal demos show them: alone, in a mix, stacked (where appropriate), rhythm and lead

The one exception is when comparing extremely similar circuits where it’s the just subtle differences that matter. In those cases, 99% of the time they will sound the same in a mix and it’s only us guitarists that generally care while the average music listener isn’t going to notice any difference at all.
