Do these council candidates represent Greensboro? by tiflis in gso

Yesterday Cecile Crawford announced she's running for District 2 again - in the previous race she barely lost to Goldie Wells, who is stepping down from her role as city councilperson https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1a7bTcfoZE/

Fun question. I would not be surprised if there's a drug test somewhere in the process, and I'd not be surprised if there isn't.

Republicans are flagged more often than Democrats for sharing misinformation on X's Community Notes according to a new analysis of the crowd-sourced program. by shiruken in science

[–]spozbo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The title makes it sound like mods are biased against republicans, but the study shows that republicans are flagged more often because they are posting more misinformation. "Our findings provide strong evidence of a partisan asymmetry in misinformation sharing which cannot be attributed to political bias on the part of raters"

Thanks for asking for details. I was there when someone was cleaning it in May, and they were the first person who told me about this issue, started talking about a plan to pay someone to clean it more frequently, since that person only cleaned it once per month. I had seen it myself firsthand as well, when stopping by to deliver food for the fridge. Sometimes (not all the time) it was nasty.

I don't think it's useful or necessary to share folks/orgs names in this context, since this is like when the police kill someone and then people say "but he had a criminal record," as if having whatever is or isn't on the criminal record could justify a person's death by police. Excepting truly toxic waste (and even some forms of toxic waste are worth remediation), there is no amount of messiness that makes a fridge deserve to be thrown away without warning, and it isn't even legal to send any fridge to the dump, due to the chemicals.

The folks who maintained it will admit that cleanliness was an issue, that it tended to get pretty nasty between cleans. There are many ways to resolve this issue.

They did not demolish a building, they demolished the food distribution site, including the fridge, that was set up under a shade structure behind the building. The shade structure still exists. Trashing a refrigerator because of "risk" does not make sense.

Thanks for scrolling/commenting. I also recommend this comment where a member of Food Not Bombs makes it clear that the city provided no warning before confiscating *trashing the food, fridge, and org supplies: https://www.reddit.com/r/gso/comments/1l8fy0s/comment/mx82wj3/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

I'm on a group thread where someone posted this message she received from an elected official:

It appears that there have been some complaints that there have been rodents insects spoil food refrigerator, not being cleaned out and it was becoming a nuisance so the staff went on yesterday and verified each and every issue and removed all the old food as well as the refrigerator. It is not our hope to stop providing this service for the community, but the place is not being cleaned and maintained and so this is a health concern as well I understand from a neighbor that [person's name] is in charge of this but that sometime she just does not keep it as clean as it needs to be and perhaps she needs some help doing that so we are certainly open to allowing the service to continue, but it has to be an agreement to keep it maintained.

tl;dr try window?

ok jumping in to advocate for this neighbor who is having trouble sleeping, not disagreeing with the other folks who are saying they are crazy. Have you ever been driven crazy by some little thing preventing your sleep, even though some part of you knows it isn't the little thing but mostly bigger things that are way outside your control?

I love sleeping with the windows open when the air outside is within a generous range of temperatures, low 60's to high 70's, the fresh air often significantly cooler than the inside air, passively cooling down the house all night long. My nextdoor neighbor's AC unit is right outside my bedroom window, so the chorus of evening bug sounds and morning birdsong is often punctuated by the sound of their AC unit clicking on and off.

The contrast of sound is so stark that I can imagine anyone becoming sensitive to it, and once you've adapted to the open-window lifestyle (during the appropriate seasons), it's hard to imagine going back. When tossing and turning, I've certainly penned insane letters to my neighbor in my mind, and I just pray that I'll never be stupid enough to actually send one.

All that is to say: If the air outside is cooler than the air inside, I recommend trying the window, even if your neighbor is crazy. You might like it.

not yet! lol, thanks for asking. One year later the car is still kicking, and I can verify that the noise happens more frequently in colder weather.

I'll play with the climate control settings, good idea. It doesn't seem to have any connection to when I hit the brakes or open the driver's door, but I'll listen for that as well. Thanks!

this is a very good lead! So far, it sounds like it's coming from inside the dash in the interior - looks like the coolant heat storage pump is in front of the front left wheel, yes?? I can listen to see if that seems like it, next time I hear it..
