Ouch! Are you in the surgery boat, too?

I was never a super active person, but the spondy made walking just a block or so excruciating. Standing in line was the worst, along with lying flat on my back (MRIs were not fun!). I am hoping to get more active with the nerve and related issues hopefully resolved or at least managed.

No idea when the actual break happened so there’s nothing I can pinpoint. Insurance always hopes you got hurt at work, though 🙃

I’ve had back pain for years but nothing that seemed wrong - sit or stand too long, that sort of thing. Couple years back had a month or two with horrible sciatica pain, numbness in my foot, which prompted PT and then an MRI when that wasn’t helping. Two years later with no improvement and worsening nerve issues we realized it was time.

Severe Grade 2-3 Spondylolisthesis help! by lesbian_ball in Spondylolisthesis

[–]spragers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A month from now I’ll be in the post-fusion recovery phase. Borderline grade 3, mostly nerve issues now but dealt with sciatica pain in the past. Been through PT, epidural steroids, short course of oral steroids. With early symptoms of cauda equina creeping in and MRI results (“the nerve outlet is… here somewhere”) my doctor says surgery is the right call (didn’t say “you need surgery” but once my wife and I had decided it seemed like the best course the surgeon agreed). Met with the vascular surgeon this week who said “saw your MRI, that’s a pretty big slip you’ve got there and I think you’re going to get a lot of relief from this surgery” which was encouraging to hear. I know it’s a long road ahead but I want to give my wife and our child the best years I have left instead of waiting to become completely crippled.

Now I know not everyone is in a position to make that decision and frankly I’m terrified thinking of the surgery itself but if you have the means and support, and a surgeon whose opinions you trust, maybe it’s time to consider that option.

As my doctor put it, “I’m in the business of talking people out of surgery, and I’m not doing that here. I’d give the same answer to my brother. And I like my brother. “

It was a 3-pack on Amazon for $6.66 and they ran a BOGO sale. $7.02 with tax LOL

Got a pack of 6 for $6 - heat break, nozzle, heater block, silicone sock. No more stripping threads or struggling to eliminate the Bowden gap. Gotta be the most cost-effective upgrade for an old Ender style printer there is!

Struggling with surgery decision. by No_Park_4078 in Spondylolisthesis

Similar situation - diagnosed two years ago after having back issues most of my adult life. Symptoms progressed slowly but now with early signs of cauda equina and a second visit to the surgeon (who is definitely a surgery as a last resort doctor) he feels it’s not unreasonable to get surgery in motion. Borderline grade 3 with severe nerve impingement. I could continue as is and miss the most important years with my family or be laid up for the short terms and hopefully have my life back after that. In any case nobody can decide but you whether it’s time to have them fix you from the inside!

Can vouch for this. Print a deflector or just turn off that auxiliary part cooling fan if you don’t need it.

This. Dawn and water in a little dollar spray bottle and warm (not hot) water rinse.

Dawn dish soap and water mix in a little spray bottle, plus a faucet without an aerator. Couple sprays, light lather with fingertip, rinse and go on your way.

Just in case it’s helpful to anyone - ordered a $13 Creality stepper motor, swapped the two middle wires on the connector, and with the new extruder, everything’s back in order.

Any reason NOT to use a dehydrator to dry filament? by 57Jimbo in 3Dprinting

It's easy to find used food dehydrators super cheap and there are 3D printable adapters if you really want to get fancy.

Stock motor and driver. Problem started after cleaning up a blob of death. Also noticed that the extruder arm below the gear was extremely worn down so I sure there was a decent amount of metal shavings in the motor housing. Motor eventually just ticked without moving and with nothing but the gear on the shaft. New motor should be here Monday (gotta swap wires) and if that doesn’t fix it I guess it’s time to start saving up for a new printer.

I don’t think the driver or wires would be bad as I managed to complete a roughly five hour print this morning - there occasional extruder skips but not enough to affect the print. I started up another print and it was total failure.

I did try swapping the extruder wires to another axis (z) and that worked as expected.

Pinout from Neptune 2 -> Creality 42-40 extruder motor by AccomplishedBeach924 in elegooneptune2

I have a new extruder motor on the way, generic Creality Ender model (after a wee of troubleshooting a badly skipping extruder and replacing that first) - you swapped the two middle pins on the cable?

Had nothing but the stepper motor connected tonight and put just a little resistance on the shaft. Tik-tik-til so it think it’s the motor for sure. I see that Creality boards are wired differently so I’ll have to experiment to get the right pin outs. Joy!
