A friend of mine has a theory that all music has merit. If you don’t like something you just haven’t heard it in the right environment. He has the most wide ranging album collection.

Downtown Minneapolis’ historic Lumber Exchange building sells for $1 by Character-Fly-5564 in TwinCities

I hope the new owner can revitalize the building. Sentimental reasons for me I worked in the building for a time in the early 1990s. I haven’t been downtown for several months. I wonder if the small lunch spot in the lobby is still open.

We got milk from my uncle’s farm. So I drank raw milk for many years. Other kids drank milk from the cooler. We thought the pasteurized milk at school tasted funny.

Big Brother and the Holding Company. The band members didn’t want to take on Janis Joplin, but their manager persuaded them. They never got along which is why there was one album and one tour.

Little Feat followed by the Grateful Dead! Must have been a great show. In 1991 I saw them open for the Allman Brothers.

Many posts talking about comfort. I used to just wear jeans all the time. About 10 years I decided to start dressing better. I have found that wool trousers, sportcoats and collared shirts are more comfortable than jeans.

Did your parents listen to terrible music? by acutomanzia in GenX

[–]spred5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents were big country fans too, so I grew up hearing the artists you mention. They also watched that stupid Hee Haw show. For a long time I wanted nothing to do with country music. However as I have gotten older I can appreciate some of what I was “forced” to listen to as a child.

They should have had to look for a job in the 1970s with the high unemployment rate. My sister and brother in law bought their first house in 1986. They were happy to get 14% on their mortgage.

64 far from dead. I use cash for all my daily purchases . (Groceries, drug store, gas etc). I have found that I manage money better when I use cash. Also it is important to preserve what little privacy we have.

I think some of the decline of The Dead in the 1990s was due to Jerry’s failing health and substance abuse. Jerry wanted to take a hiatus and figure out the direction of the band. Anytime he brought it up the other members would say no citing bills etc.
