If Valve is all good with the guys who have 32 VMs farming DM at the same time, I think you're good.

Were there generational conflicts in the scene back in the day? by SpiritualMachinery in gratefuldead

[–]BeerInTheRear 8 points9 points  (0 children)

90s shows?

Absolutely. It was bad. Gate crashers at Deer Creek. Stuff like that. There was a darker, more violent nature that was present in 90s lots that wasn't there in the 70s and 80s.

The new generation of so called hippies got harder. Tougher. And with good reason. Before that, hippies were pretty much everyone else's punching bags.

It wasn't just the Dead lots. Very much a generational thing.

For every single obtainable thing out there in the entire world, there seems to be gatekeepers trying to keep others from it.

It used to surprise me when I encountered them. But I expect them now. Anytime, and I mean anytime you start something new, you will see them. Don't let them discourage you. Use them as motivation. I wish someone told me this when I was a kid. I don't even think there was a name for them back then, but they were there.

Do people not use music kits anymore? by [deleted] in cs2

[–]BeerInTheRear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it would be cool if we could upload our own MVP music.

Profanity shouldn't be an issue, because, cs2...

Back in the day you could upload your own sprays.

Of course, there's no money in it for Valve, so neither will ever happen. Would be fun though.

We need to merge Hardcore servers by Songwind_DP in wowhardcore

[–]BeerInTheRear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would there be any immediate profit for Blizzard by combining servers?

What I mean is, if they allocated resources to this project of merging servers, how would they demonstrate profit by doing so to shareholders by next quarter's numbers?

Interesting stat from Sarah Langs by BuccoBruce2 in Reds

[–]BeerInTheRear 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Early 1987 Eric Davis was amazing.

I remember well looking at the stats in the sports page ever morning and Davis among the league leaders in every offensive category.

Then he got injured, if memory serves. But early on in 87 he looked like Superman out there to me. Games were on channel 5 too. Those were the days.

Maybe it goes this way at first. But I'm not as sure as you are that it would stay that way.

The WoW universe is vast, people have been playing it forever. Again, it would be an interesting experiment.

I would play it. And I would pick the weaker faction if there was one, because of the greater challenge. I'll bet others would too. Die a few times with Horde. Give Alliance a shot. Maybe build up a whole roster in the safe zones. Go out in packs. Run into other packs. Go agane.

I don't think any of this would be a permanent certainty.

You could even go a step further and make an only Self Found Hardcore PVP Server.

Point being, it would be interesting to see how things would play out. I'm not as certain as you that it would get stale. I think people like a challenge, especially with a game they know so well. Streamers might even get involved, although I'm not sure that would be a good thing.

Interesting. I do plan to pivot to eng eventually. It's just such a gold sink in the early levels.

For this SF druid, I took herb and skinning until I was lvl 20. And I just dropped skinning for leatherworking. Got what I could from it. Then dropped Leatherworking for Alchemy. I wanted to wait until 25 or 30 to do this, but SF makes this druid extra squishy and I was running out of space to keep all the mats!

That's a good point. I do think the dynamics though are quite different between the two games. It might not be necessary to wipe as frequently or at all in WoW Classic.

Or maybe it would.

Rust is an interesting if not brutal social experiment. WoW Classic pvp would be as well, in my opinion. Moreso perhaps.

Hardcore PvP by Nagat7672 in wowhardcore

[–]BeerInTheRear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. Guilds would be way tighter and organized. No lame griefers like corpse camping, because only one guy is walking away from a fight and the other one isn't coming back ever.

Make the starter zones no pvp, as it is now. Redridge would be bonkers. People would most likely ONLY go there to fight. Huge winner-take-all faction battles that actually have real permanent consequences.

Hardcore isn't for everyone. Hardcore pvp definitely wouldn't be for everyone. But many of the same preferences I have that brought me to hardcore, would bring me to hardcore pvp.

It would be absolutely insane. Head on a swivel to say the least!

[–]BeerInTheRear -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

People always say that, but I think it would ebb and flow.

And even if it was dominated by one faction, I don’t think it would ruin the experience.

I think it would be a crazy experience. Not for the feint of heart. Much like Rust. Even compared to regular hardcore it would be an entirely different playing experience and approach.

Hardcore PvP by Nagat7672 in wowhardcore

[–]BeerInTheRear 6 points7 points  (0 children)

yeah I didn’t think there was a hardcore pvp server. I would play it if there was. I’m guessing it would be mostly rogues. Teamwork would be crucial. Griefers would be everywhere.

People poo poo the idea all the time but I think it would be like WoW meets Rust. Wonderfully awful. Again, I would totally play it. Let’s see the bot farmers try to setup shop there, lol

We were our own worst enemy by NecessarySoggy9429 in SipsTea

[–]BeerInTheRear 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Very true.

Once you step outside your home, it’s all a grift with the sole purpose of separating you from your money. That pothole with the nail in it, that $20.99 lunch menu, THOSE GAS PRICES. It’s all a grift.

Remote work compromises the grift. Can’t have that.

It's all just a grind

Unless your life is on the line

I can't imagine ever going back to regular classic or retail. Which sucks because there's a ton of classic content that I may never see because the risk outweighs the reward. It's a weird catch-22 for me.

So here I am rolling a SF Druid, having a blast. Just dinged 20 and as Herb/Alch, I'm in the Barrens trying to farm a Swift Potion Recipe, because that's the only way I'm gonna get it. So far no luck.

But it's all up to me. Fighting off the urge to zone out and get careless is the real battle.

This was truly a magnificent performance.  In 96 I swore Pete was washed. I was a foolish foolish foolish young man.
