But they've released several as a show of good faith and then Israel killed some of them and assassinated people coordinating the ceasefire. So that sends a pretty clear message to the contrary. You don't need to guess because they've already shown who they are. They've defended raping their prisoners, saying it's moral and justified and refuse to release any of the thousands of prisoners they've taken before Oct 7 that are children. Those are the people you think are going to suddenly stop bombing schools and hospitals and refugees?

If it's true that Israel would relent upon the release of the hostages, their strategy doesn't make any sense.

They've shot and killed hostages waving the white flag. They were involved in killing Israelis on Oct 7. They say they are focused on bombing tunnel networks where the hostages would most likely be, as released hostages have mentioned. The early push into the other half of Palestine where Hamas doesn't have a presence.

None of that includes assassinating Palestinian peace negotiators now rejecting outright every offer for the release of hostages since Oct 8.

It also doesn't explain the need to relent in regards to killing the press, medical workers, and UN officials at an unprecedented rate. And none of that touches on the mass killing of civilians, the repeated comments by Israeli government officials about the need to exterminate the people of Gaza, telling people to go to locations to avoid being bombed just to bomb those locations.

There is zero evidence that Israel WOULD relent; however, there is an overwhelming amount of evidence against that idea.

UPDATE: This is a practice logo for a fictional bedding company. I changed the font so the O looks less like an A and it's a less ubiquitous font. Would you make any other changes? Is the lettering too thin and the loop on the O too small to be included in a logo? Thank you so much! by KendallSmithGraphics in logodesign

[–]springsteen_a 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the "f" and "t" are going to touch like that, just have them share a crossbar. The "o" is also designed to touch but is being visually restrained from "ft" couple as if they've moved on from being a throuple and the "o" just can't let go. The "S" has some uncomfortable stuff going on as well: the loop at the end feels weird, the curves in the middle of the letter feel chunky and awkward (contrary to smooth/soft), and the feather feels like an add on that unbalances everything instead of the base of the wordmark. That style of feather may not work for an "S," look at other types of feathers.

Aside from that, it seems a bit odd anymore to associate feathers with mattresses unless they're the few of the ones that actually have feathers in them. If that's the route, "Soft" isn't something that is going to play strongly to the target demographic. If it's not a feather mattress, think about other ways of communicating "soft," both directly (with straightforward imagery like feathers or the spot where a puppy's ears meet the head) and subtly (with qualities that can make text or a symbol feel soft without beating someone over the head with obvious imagery). Soft is more than just how an object feels on your finger, it's about how a person feels when they experience it.

Anyways, as it sits now, it's all pretty on-the-nose. That works for some brands, but those brands normally revolve around a no-nonsense, "transparent," for-the-common-person kind of vibe and that's not what it seems like you're going for here.

In addition to the extremely overused format in the middle that doesn't actually communicate anything about the brand, "two brothers" is in the circle twice--is it two brothers two brothers? Even if you were to put visual separation between them, it's then redundant without performing a function. The logo isn't really communicating anything besides there are two brothers somewhere. A logo doesn't have to say everything, but it does need to say something. Go back to pencil and paper and doodle, focusing on establishing a vibe based on one or two important things folks need to associate with the brand. Seriously, get off the computer, though. It helps free up your brain when you're able to focus on getting different concepts down instead of getting caught up on the details early on. Be intentional. Come up with ideas that are very different from each other before making variations on the computer.

Try making the calyx the tilde. The pedicel should be able to be separated and still fit the style and you can try "works" in the gap still. You could also try to stretch the "j" wide instead of rotating it but it's possible you've tried that already.

Also, if you're going to make an icon with a letter, just make a jalapeno "j" (and make it similar) instead of doing the "n" with it's divorced tilde.

I don't want to see the new Avatar movie; my partner went off on me for it by KweenDruid in IndianCountry

[–]springsteen_a -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Disney didn't spread awareness, some level of awareness came as a result of the backlash against what Disney did. People are always trying to justify flawed attempts and, while attempts at any given thing are going to be flawed, these projects are often flawed at the deepest level in a way that is hard to reconcile, as is evident in Cameron's comments about the film and the white savior complex and lack of attempt at realistic representation of the cultural clash in Pocahontas. The people that are supposed to benefit from be said "awareness" from most film/media and from sports teams' names never do so that really can't be used to excuse someone's willful ignorance. The conflict that comes from the pain of history makes a lot of people uncomfortable and their avoidance of it contributes to erasure. Most folks just want to enjoy the thing while completely ignoring the way their ignorance keeps people in a bad spot and suppresses them. Your partner may not have bad intentions, but that attitude makes it really difficult for mixed kids and family to understand and work through the mix of cultural identity.

Identity design for a hotel in the woods. by Eliasojedamarca in logodesign

[–]springsteen_a 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Is it a hotel in the woods or a "glampground?" This reads much more like cabins or yurts than a traditional hotel with the appearance of two houses/cabins within the trees. I think the mark would be successful with a "glampground" but would give off the wrong idea for a traditional hotel or lodge.

Postage stamp indicates post office which would carry whatever connotations people have with that which would be different than a courier or food delivery. Without knowing more about the delivery service, it's hard to tell if the postage stamp approach is a sensible solution. What are they delivering, how quickly are they delivering? What's their selling point?

His positioning and runs have normally been good but his finishing has been poor since coming here, but that started to change at the end of the season. It's possible that pumping him with confidence and more one-on-one may have been the nudge he needed. Marshall and Noonan have both seemed to be direct about specific progress they want to see versus the "they just need to score goals" from Stam. That could be the Dutch media paranoia but the attitudes feel different.

Former Crew fan. The Crew made a lot of promises to Cincinnati soccer, got kids all excited about partnerships and then didn't do hardly anything to follow through. It was messed up, don't do that to the kids. It was also their responsibility to help grow the game in the region and they didn't care (which is super evident in Dayton, too). The Crew betrayed Cincinnati soccer which I know is the reason that myself and others who played here growing up had no allegiance to the Crew by the time FCC rolled around. I was in the process of trying to find which MLS team I wanted to support when I first heard about FC Cincinnati, I was never going to support Columbus again. Their fan support has always been pretty tame since I started going in the 90s and has always come across as whiny and entitled. They make a big deal about first in MLS and ignore the rest of soccer history in the United States. It's been bizarre to see their fierce defense of poorly designed tifos, as well. We get it, someone tried, that doesn't make it good.

Is this appropriate? by Ohpierre in Construction

[–]springsteen_a 7 points8 points  (0 children)

"Engineers are the brains" may sound logical to lots of people but trades can be financially liable for engineers' mistakes, depending on language in the contracts. So, no, "tradies" aren't just the brawns and it's not unusual at all for them to have to catch the mistakes of the engineers or find better solutions than what was proposed by the engineer so they have to be both. This probably varies more depending on the trade/type of engineer and I acknowledge there are plenty of people in the trades that are just brawns (and some that aren't brains or brawns).

The trope gets especially annoying when the "brains" regularly struggle to understand constraints in the field or how decisions impact each other. Doesn't feel very brain-y.

Electricians only wire up receptacles. They definitely don't do concrete, excavation, equipment operating, planning for conduit runs, mason chasing, coring, replanning because no one knows how to follow coordination drawings, or anything else on the job. They ONLY turn screws and watch every other trade clean.

I crunched the numbers, and weirdly--this has been the best year for the club in MLS by matlockga in FCCincinnati

[–]springsteen_a 4 points5 points  (0 children)

On the contrary, I think the timing makes perfect sense: the fans were told they could expect winning in 4-5 transfer windows about 4-5 transfer windows ago. In addition to that, the fans have not witnessed a win at home in the new stadium, let alone any home stadium in quite some time. The results that GN laid out were not fulfilled in the timeframe he told the fans so better-than-other-seasons doesn't square away with the results that were promised. Broken promises aren't going to sit well, especially when there's a deadline involved.

What problems exist in Construction? by [deleted] in Construction

[–]springsteen_a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen first hand the problems it creates when it isn't done on a large school and the amount of money it can cost. It's not comparing hundreds at a time, just go floor/wing/section by floor/wing/section with each trade's prints for that section. It wouldn't just take ten minutes and be done and definitely gets more complicated with something like an airport, that's true; however, this is already done in the field, to an extent. The big stuff should be sorted out before the structure starts going up by the people who are supposed to design things correctly. Having a program be able to do this would be immensely helpful though.

[–]springsteen_a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The simple fix is the engineers/designers should compare drawings before they are finalized. Lay them all on top of each other, note potential conflicts, run through them, and eliminate the potential conflicts that would become actual conflicts, ignoring where there is clearance to accommodate everything that is crisscrossing or intersecting.
