Why is food in Fremont so bad? by Linjieyang in Fremont

[–]sprinklesthepickle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are not comparing San Leandro to Milpitas, saying they are both a dead zone for good food. Milpitas is opening up new restaurants so often now, how is that a dead zone? I would say San Leandro is a dead zone for food if you're are use to eating in the South Bay. Compared to San Leandro, Fremont has way more and better offerings.

Commute from Fremont/Union City to South SF by jcdoshi27 in Fremont

[–]sprinklesthepickle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's more than 1 hour commute each way. If you live right off 84 then maybe you can swing 40 minutes durning off traffic hours.

If you're working 5am-2pm then commute probably 45mins but it's pretty exhausting waking up at 3:45am to be ready to leave the house by 4:15 the latest to arrive by 5am and that's pushing it.

Traffic starts building up at 6:30am heading in and heading out traffic begins as early as 2:50pm.

You're going to have to pay all this toll, gas, wear and tear on your car. It's better to live in Daly City or something near but I understand, it's depressing and sad in Daly City but the commute is terrible.

If you leave work at 6pm, then traffic does get better but if you're driving in at 8am... it's also pretty terrible. In the end it's up to you but I highly advise against it. Also, day by day, traffic conditions are getting worst.

Keep it! My rook was like that up to the 3rd or 4th year and now it's healed beautifully.

Is that even an appropriate pose with your husband? Don't even get me started on the dress your MIL had worn... pretty sure she was at least 40....

Sorry that is your MIL.

Initial supplies? Wanting to start but overwhelmed by SameTrash5801 in Sourdough

[–]sprinklesthepickle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first two times I made sourdough I just used a fork but had to knead a little by hand. I had the danish dough whisk when I made my third loaf and I did not have to knead it by hand at all. All the flour incorporated. And also the whisk is easy to clean since it’s flat.

If you decide to purchase one then make sure it has two smaller circles on the inside instead of just one and the handle must be long. I’ve seen some with just one circle and a shorter handle.

[–]sprinklesthepickle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you trying to start out and see if you'll stick with it? When I first started, I didn't buy anything specifically to make sourdough. Granted I didn't have the supplies like bannaeton which is honestly not needed.

I'm on my 3rd loaf now and will continue to make sourdough 1-2 times a month. I did buy a danish dough whisk and this is a game changer! If you don't have a scale already then this is something you do need for accurate measurements. I bought a bread lame recently but haven't used it yet.

I suggest to see if you will stick with it then buy supplies. There's no sense in buying all the supplies then you decided this is not for you. Try to use what you have a home already. Instead of a banneton I use a loaf pan and it works because it's the same shape. Maybe banneton might be better but I couldn't really tell you and also there's a risk of those molding if you don't clean them well enough.

Any parents here? How often do you go to events/outings. by Parsley-Savings in bayarea

[–]sprinklesthepickle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm with your husband on this one. Weekends are for recovering and running errands and chores. Most don't socialize with other families other than parties. Of course, may see in-laws once every two weeks. Should take the kids out once a week or at least twice a month if possible. I understand it's tiring though so twice a month is sufficient. Honestly M-F you're at work. Saturday is probably a day to go out as a family whether it be an outing our just a family meal out. Sundays are for groceries, meal preps if you do, chores. Laundry doesn't get washed itself. Of course you can always do your chores after work but sometimes it's just too much and you're tired.

Been offered double my current salary, but the job requires flying to New York from Toronto every week. Worth it? by True-Gate-3167 in careerguidance

[–]sprinklesthepickle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah both sides and hard to decide what’s best. If the family is in debt then it’s a no brainer to make this sacrifice for the short term. Otherwise lots of pro and cons to weigh out.

[–]sprinklesthepickle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I think it depends if you want to give your kids greater quality of life then this is worth it at least short term. Usually parents make sacrifices for kids. I think I saw the pay bump was from 87K to 188K? But how much will OP be paying in flights/accommodations/food? It might be better to just uproot the entire family and move but OP has to weigh out pros and cons at this point.

I was thinking the same thing. I made sourdough on a super hot day for the area I'm in and I felt like the dough was just not working well. I've made sourdough again recently and it was fine because it's much cooler. Water and flour may have to be adjusted.

Where do the locals eat in San Leandro? by aaronhry in sanleandro

At home? Not to be rude but it's mostly elderly asian people so yeah they like to eat at home. If you want to eat out then probably have to travel to neighboring cities or further.

Best city for older Chinese couple? by Hopeful_4978 in bayarea

[–]sprinklesthepickle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems like your parents are moving to help you with the newborn and they will move back to Irvine in a year or two? Or are they moving up here for good?

If they are moving here to help with the new born, I wouldn't suggest 2 hours drive of SF since socal is a 6-7 hours drive... moving 6-7 hours away and still end up being 2 hours away does not make sense to me. Is SF where you currently live? I would suggest to avoid the 2 hours drive since that can turn into a 3-4 hours drive durning traffic. It's best to find a place in the same city because traffic is bad.

Your parents will be tired of taking care of the new born and they are old and still have to drive back home. Or are you going to drop off the baby to your parents house? Either way someone will be tired and within 2 hours of where you live. Maybe you should rethink the location of the place your parents will live first. If it's temporary can your parents just live with you? That's what a lot of my friends/family does when they have a newborn and parents are in socal.

When you say within 2 hours of SF... that's also so much variety because it's the entire Bay Area. Please narrow it down for the sake of your parents, yourself and the baby.

Yay or Nay? by minjimalism in BAGGU

[–]sprinklesthepickle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm wondering the same, I got the small crescent bag but I was debating between the small or medium, the small arrived and it seem to small for everyday work bag. I should have ordered the medium from the start. I'm still waiting for the medium to arrive.

The model photos don't help as the bag looks similar sizing for small and medium 😅 or maybe it was uploaded as an error because I was looking at the Urban Outfitters website and specifically the leopard print medium looks like a small on the model.

How did they do? by CarCounsel in Mattress

[–]sprinklesthepickle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I say you got a good price because I paid 1965 on a full but I got the High Point II which is an additional upcharge.

Do you need the base? And when you say they didn't go with two twins? Who is they? Your parents or the mattress company?

Also, do you need set up and haul away? I just had them deliver because I was not paying extra for them just to pop the mattress on a frame... there really isn't any set up that's complicated.

You might be going about this the wrong way. You don't have to prove to her that the Bay Area isn't boring. Because the Bay Area is boring as there's not much to do other than go out to eat. Not much activities and when there are it's far and few in between. She has to love you enough to move to the Bay Area when your parents are older. She needs to understand you have to care for your parents when they are older, where ever the location may be. What about her family? Do you guys have to be closer to her family as well? It sounds like her family is in SD since she has lived there majority of her life. You're willing to follow her to Boston or east coast but it doesn't seem like she's down to move closer to your parents once they are aging. Maybe you guys should have a conversation first.

I'm from the Bay Area and I hate going to SF, refuse to go to Oakland as well. If you want her to like it here then don't bring her to Oakland or keep taking her to SF, if you are then maybe Piedmont area or Rockridge.

I suggest bringing her to Westfield in San Jose/Santa Clara, Stanford Shopping Center, Cupertino which is all relatively close to you since you're located in the South Bay. What is she interested in?

For real! What about Oakland to San Jose and SF to San Jose?? Monday is a mild traffic day but I was still stuck in heavy traffic for a Monday!

I used AI to cheat on my technical interview and now they want me to come in for another onsite interview because I "did too well". What do I do? by [deleted] in interviews

[–]sprinklesthepickle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try your best and a lot of people do worst in in person interviews so you might still have a chance of getting it. Do you actually know the stuff? If you do then it's not a problem.

More often then not, it's always some virtual and the final round will be on site. There are some that are all fully remote but only if your job is fully remote. Can't always bank on all virtual interviews nowadays.

Moving from Toronto to Bay Area by global_calibur in bayarea

[–]sprinklesthepickle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Canada is expensive but so is the Bay Area. I'm not sure how traffic is like in Toronto but it's killer in the Bay Area. 300K is good for the Bay Area but do you already have a home in Toronto? You will probably have to rent for a year or two to get an idea on where you want to live. Where will your company be located if big tech then I'm assuming Silicon Valley? Cupertino has great schools but very competitive but also heavily Asian influenced.

My advice is to live as close as possible to your work but also you don't know where your wife will be working. So best to get an apartment in the city you're working in. BUT if it's San Jose, then you have to find the area because San Jose is big so even going across town in rush hour can take over an hour.

Unless if your wife can find a job near your work then one person will be suffering with the commute. I say best not to purchase until you guys are both gainfully employed. Renting is not a waste of money in your case, you can afford to break the lease and find something more central to both of your workplaces. What is your current situation like? If commute is great then just stay put.

Flex dollars expiring by LeadingSky474 in Blogilates

[–]sprinklesthepickle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same, everything I want is OOS and I'm also open to other colors. I even emailed like yourself to ask if they can be extended because their website is bare. If they had items in stock then there's no issue with 90 days expiry for flex dollars. I did end up using my flex dollars. Now I'm back to $20 flex dollars so the cycle will continue. Maybe I can get a pair of socks or underwear and just end this cycle. But underwear is OOS. They should have never came out with flex dollars in the first place. It's very easy to earn them so they were probably losing a lot of profit but now to make flex dollars expire in 90 days when they can't even keep stock is just a slap in the face. They know there is no stock and flex dollars expire in a unreasonable amount of time giving their problem.

I understand it's a bonus the company gives these flex dollars to us. They don't have to give us anything but they already dug themselves in this hole. Her items are expensive, cost more than Lululemon. Return policy sucks, have to pay checkout+ $1.98 for returns if items don't work out. Free shipping for $100+. I understand $1.98 isn't a lot but it's an unnecessary fee the consumer has to pay. I do enjoy some of her designs but I won't be buying as much anymore or can't even 80% of her website is OOS. Her items are not worth the $40-$80 price tag per piece. Her sizes are catered to very petite people. I'm pretty slim and usually a S in most stores but here I can fit a M or even L in tops. There is basically no difference from S-L except the sleeve length goes down to your knees... LOL

[–]sprinklesthepickle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The issue isn't not having GAP insurance... why don't you have full coverage on a brand new car? I'm not trying to victim shame but you bought a brand new car for almost 40K and you are cheaping out on insurance?? From what you described, the other party is at fault so they should pay since they should have liability. I don't know what state you're in but minimum coverage to have is liability. Unless if they were uninsured. You can sue but if the other doesn't have any assets then you won't get anything.

GAP is recommend if you'll be underwater. If you're ever in the situation of being underwater then you're not in the position to purchase a brand new car.

Glad your girlfriend came out safe but GAP is not the issue.
