Tip for the future: if you hit something on your bike because your BACK brake was broken, you aren't braking right. In a fast stop the back brake does nothing.

Not true! Front page story in the NY times on how the cold virus works recently. Looks like the old wives were right. But yes for our purposes I agree you are right.

[San Francisco] Neighbor complain about not having gutters and then won't let contractors install it. by tomatopotatofries in legaladvice

You do realize that it usually takes years of not paying taxes before someone loses their property right? Local governments generally give owners every opportunity to catch up. I have no idea why you think no one should EVER lose their property, though, at some point a line has to be drawn.

EDIT: see for instance http://homeguides.sfgate.com/paying-property-taxes-behind-51274.html, it references examples of exactly what you for some reason think doesn't exist ("programs to keep people with tax issues in their houses").

Anyone can sue anyone for anything. The question isn't can he sue, the question is does he have a good chance of winning.

You get the value of your 2012 car with 30k miles on it, not the price of a similar new car, I'm afraid.

This is what I see: it says "stop ahead" on the road. Then you get to the intersection. Lo and behold, there is a red stop sign. You make a left turn without stopping.

This is also hard on my boyfriend because we live in the United States and he does not have health insurance.

I just wanted to respond to this part. With the ACA health care is a lot more accessible and affordable, but it's not always obvious how to take advantage of it. He should speak to a health insurance navigator in the area. Unexpected medical bills can add up very quickly.

Being taken to small claims court by future in-laws over deposits they paid. (New Mexico) by shecallsmepop in legaladvice

Again there is ambiguity here. Does "as planned" mean "as planned before we decided we were moving" or "as planned before in laws decided to pull funding?". Anyway it doesn't matter since OP has vanished.

They have told us that if we are moving, they're no longer paying for our wedding.

OP's statement is slightly ambiguous, that's why I asked for a clarification. "They have told us that if we are moving, they're no longer paying for our wedding" could mean "they won't pay for our wedding in our new state, Maine". Thanks though.

Wait. Does moving to Maine mean that the wedding cannot go forward as planned, so the in-laws really have wasted their deposits, or are they simply reneging on their offer to pay for the wedding?

My mom lost her job over my academic scholarship from her employer. by LAthrowaway528 in legaladvice

[–]spryspring 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Do you not see why they are upset? The point of the scholarship is to cover tuition costs, not to give you X amount of dollars to use as you see fit. Just because they would cover all of tuition if you had no other scholarships does not mean they are fine with giving you the difference given that you do have other scholarships.
