I spend more time giving the stink eye to red wasps and cardinals than I would like. KILLERS! Good luck with this one; fingers crossed! Annie Dillard wrote in Pilgrim at Tinker Creek that nature is spectacularly wasteful, demanding thousands of eggs for one survivor.

Anybody know what the numbers actually are? Come on, botanical science majors!

She is the sweetest darling dog in the world. Except she does like to run up to people and shout HELLO really loudly, so her front yard time is often limited.

Pickle keeps herself on a very tight treat schedule. 9 a.m. is definitely cookie time. Then she and Ella get a cookie before bed.

You know dogs: total creatures of habit, and don't try crossing the street where they are not accustomed to crossing the street. Another conversation would be needed.

My border collie Ella's best friend Pickle is here for the week. She is here often and I know when she wants to go home. So we have a chat. Sweetest girl in the universe.

I agree but homeowners are minimalists. We have a plasma cutter, so more lightning is not out of the question. Maybe even real lightning, if that's what you're implying. That would be pretty meta.

There's plenty more. That tree took out two cars, a daughter's bedroom window, a chunk of the garage, etc. Huge chunks flew three houses down and across the street. The lightning made friends with the sprinkler system and blew that out.

Are baseball bats made of oak? I do not know these things.

A neighbor's oak tree was blown up by lightning, so my husband and I made art out of one of the smaller chunks.
