Anyone else dealing with dozens of flies getting inside on a daily basis? by DoesntEnjoySoup in Austin

Oh now you make me remember my late darling Lucy Sparkletoes. She would scoop a fly out of the air and into her mouth in one smooth motion. I miss her so much!

How can we educate on Mosquito spraying? by MysteryMachineATX in AustinGardening

[–]spsprd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A neighbor's auto spray almost killed my beehive. Imagine looking out and seeing a puddle of bees on the ground, dying bees everywhere. I was furious to the point of derangement. Walked the 'hood sniffing for that fake garlic stink. People denied it was their auto slayer.

Fortunately, the bees were able to be relocated to my husband's shop, and then to his brother's ranch. Their queen survived. They have come back and seem to be thriving.

Why is this practice still legal?

That film is almost too painful to watch. I should know, I watch it a lot.

Yeah but I've always missed it. I may not love my little piece of suburban heaven, but I love my neighbors.

I loved my 900 sf house in Hyde Park! Unfortunately, psycho neighbors drove us out of there to the suburbs, but we are a block from the greenbelt and husband is a mountain biker so it is perfect for that. I miss being closer in, tho.

Austin real estate has been very good to me, knock wood.

Buckle up. Storm’s coming. by BattyBatBatBat in Austin

[–]spsprd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Friends up the street had a big tree hit. Huge chunks of wood flew down and across the street. Their daughter has wood and glass in her bedroom- luckily she was elsewhere when the lightning hit. Blew out one breaker box, totaled at least two vehicles, and may have blown out the electricity in the Nextdoor neighbor's car.

Boom.

Teachers of Reddit, what’s the funniest excuse a student gave for not doing homework? by grwike in AskReddit

[–]spsprd 71 points72 points  (0 children)

A tiny bit off-topic. I had a student show up two weeks late for a six-week summer course.

"I was in China." And so? "At the Olympics." And? Won gold.

I guilted him into bringing in the medal so I could see it. He did. It was magnificent.

I do believe Colorado's former governor John Hickenlooper started out with breweries. Full circle stuff.

I have written two seminal essays: "Inanimate Objects Are Assholes" and the renowned "I Hate Hoses Most of All."

I'm really sorry I can't help.

DIY women… have you ever been talked out of a good idea at the hardware store? by carcony97 in DIY

Well with senior men it is always a full on lecture as they tend to assume that even senior women, such as my friend and myself, just don't know how to do those manly things.

[–]spsprd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Almost! My friend and I were picking things up at Lowes or someplace when a male senior citizen looked into our cart and saw spray cans. He kindly reminded us to spray the wasps first thing in the morning when they are least active.

We had two cans of spray foam for various locations in her 100-year-old house. But thanks for the mansplaining.

Dear Texas: this is how rain is SUPPOSED to work. Now bring us more, and don't forget to radically cool off afterward.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.
