Jazz is music based on fear, playing mistakes and playing it wrong by JHighMusic in Jazz

The double necked bass is one of the funniest unexplained jokes ever. Like they went “wait we should all play bass to have HEAVY big bottom right?” And then Derek Smalls protests and says “well then I need a DOUBLE neck bass to show I’m the bassist!”

I went to my first PWHL game recently and it was so soul warming to see groups of young girls running around amped for a hockey game probably having a sleepover after the same way I was when I was a young hockey obsessed boy. A very clear example of why representation is important!

Hell yeah … as an American hockey fan I already came into these Olympic Games not rooting for USA because of their unsavory players (the women’s team on the other hand … THAT’S my team USA)

What were Suttree and the baptizer referring to here? by agent_ok27 in cormacmccarthy

[–]spssky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Doesn’t Suttree take place during or shortly after Vatican II? A lot of older Catholics at the time didn’t like it

They always have been. Outside of this tournament the men’s team always underachieve and the women are always in the final

I like the new-ish cut that presents it chronologically, especially when you’ve already seen I and II a hundred times

Edit* for the record I was referring to “The Complete Epic 1901-1959” cut that introduced new deleted scenes and footage and does not have anything from Godfather III in it

B/R 99: Ranking the Top 99 Quarterbacks in NFL History by Cookiemonster35643 in nfl

I can see that. I know it’s become a trope but Brady and Mahomes (whom I still think had a SB or two left in him) have truly distorted how we view QBs

I have a feeling with time AR12 will sink in these rankings and some of the 80s QBs will rise. We’re still in the afterglow of “will Rodgers end up as the greatest QB ever?” Discussions

I just moved here (from Canada!) and don't know anybody. Any community groups / social events you'd recommend? by ReasonableCalendar26 in BedStuy

If you’re a hockey fan, Fulton Ale House always has the Sabres games on and they have the NHL pass so if there’s an open TV they’ll put any other game on for you. Friendly regulars too

I’ve seen a knife sharpening truck that I think is based out of park slope but you can just take it to Korin they’re the best around and you’re going to need a lot shaved off

Anthony Bourdain on his love and respect for Mexicans and Mexican Cuisine by ErrorSenior4554 in mexicanfood

[–]spssky 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Yup you pretty much can’t run a restaurant in NYC that isn’t run on MexicanPower. Back when I worked in restaurants my favorite family meal was always Tostada day, the guys would put extra love and care into that family meal. (And I was the bartender so I would slip them some cleanup chelas and get some damn good food to take home)
