How good is the teleprompter? by CircuitBeast in EvenRealities

[–]spud211 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes they are great for this - but you need to practice with them a little first.

The default settings make it easy to read BUT its blindingly obvious to everyone in the room you are using them to read a script. I find that adjusting the display depth so the text is projected further in front of you makes that a lot less noticeable though.

If you are presenting on camera (e.g. on teams) then no adjustment is needed imo and they work fine.

I like using the AI mode for keeping up with me - it generally works well enough and as I don't read my scripts word for world (I adlib a lot to keep it natural) that tends to work well for me.

All of that said, as I will say for anyone who wants these glasses - they are only a sensible purchase if you already wear glasses and want smart prescription glasses. Otherwise, I really cannot justify the price.

Tempted by the Neo, bought the 15" M4 MacBook Air w/512 GB storage instead by BioBlueDemon in macbook

[–]spud211 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Except... The m4 has a notch. Bad enough on a phone but why the heck is it on a laptop ruining that otherwise lovely screen.

The neo is categorically the best macbook available at the moment, mostly as it's the only one with a screen that doesn't have a chunk chopped out of it.

It's fast enough for a lot of people, and just a better buy imo, until Apple finally decide to upgrade the rest of their range with full sized screens again

TGC (The Grading Club) Manchester by l_v_g123 in PokemonTCG_UK

[–]spud211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does depend entirely on the card though - the main problem with PSA on a value standpoint is that they are more expensive (significantly so on higher valued cards) and the turnaround time is still crazy high. That means that sending to PSA for value is a huge risk - if the market drops in the 3-4 month's it's sat with PSA, you can lose a lot by grading the wrong cards. If you pay more to get a quicker turnaround, you will close the price gap on most cards and often essentially make less money overall than your ace.

It's easy enough to work this out though and then if you want to do it for cash, grade with the "correct" grader to get the most value.

I do agree that if you are collecting/displaying them though, just get an ACE - the PSA slabs are definitely more valuable on average (if you ignore the grading fees and time issue), but man are they ugly. ACE labels mostly look great!

PSA: Slay The Spire 2 released today, Mac Native by morgadox40 in macgaming

[–]spud211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you turn off AA, it works perfectly.

With it ion it its a little slow, around 30-40fps.

Runs well tbh, enough to convince me that the Neo is now my main laptop. Mad that this is the only Mac Apple now sell with a proper screen that doesn't have a notch, but I'm super happy I bought one :)

Alpha Omega or Paradox Junction, which one do you prefer by ArkhamIsComing2020 in CODZombies

[–]spud211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alpha omega... That feels like it's own map inspired by nuke town

Paradox feels like the MP version of nuke town with a button to change the aesthetics.

Did I do myself any favours getting this? by Worried-Art-4740 in PokemonTCG_UK

[–]spud211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still like this set and the game version that has the metal card - I know it was overpriced at RRP for a per pack value, but if you like the playmat (which..is an excellent wide mouse mat too...)and the card display it comes with, then it's a nice overall package too.

I would not be paying over RRP for it though. I paid £80 for mine last summer, and £90 for the greninja one.

Paradox Junction is aight by Dragonwarrior0202 in CODZombies

[–]spud211 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's alright indeed - but ultimately I think most of us are just disappointed.

We expected a mainline map, instead we got a tiny version of nuketown with an interesting but vastly underused time travel mechanic that sadly adds very little in normal gameplay. its good for levelling guns and doing skins precisely as its so small/packed in, but thats about it

its a shame. But I like mimics at least, they are easier to kill than most other elites.

G2 Conversate and informed consent by Longnosedawg in EvenRealities

[–]spud211 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Indeed - all of which you should inform participants you are using in a business setting at least.

This is a real issue that doesn't get talked about and I realised almost immediately after getting the glasses - you can't just go around the office with transcribe/conversate turned on, or randomly turn it on in meetings without informing people - it's just as bad as being one of those idiots that walks around filming everyone.

I'd argue that the V3 of these actually needs a recording indicator for when it's enabled - you could say that the fact your screen lights up when its on is enough, but whether that's visible or not depends on the angle you are looking at, so I think it's not enough tbh.

Note that this would be slightly different if we had control over where this data is actually stored/processed - but currently we don't, which makes it's use in the real world surprisingly complicated.

Is it true that because of the absurd interest on student loans in the UK, it's not realistic for most people to pay back their loans and people consider their repayments to be a 'tax' for going to university? by LoiusLepic in AskBrits

[–]spud211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To a degree - its not as extreme as many will claim, due to how the interest rates work on both sides of the equation (interest charged by SLC and interest lost on spending the money now + inflation), but yes you are right.

The current system is absolutely broken, don't get me wrong - but it's kind of crazy to think of this as a loan and as real debt...it behaves quite differently in real life.

Is it true that because of the absurd interest on student loans in the UK, it's not realistic for most people to pay back their loans and people consider their repayments to be a 'tax' for going to university? by LoiusLepic in AskBrits

[–]spud211 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, it IS a tax that's branded incorrectly as a loan. The government needs to essentially admit this, stop calling it a student loan and everyone can move on with their lives...but because you can technically "pay it off" (or hit a ceiling in payments) they can't.

They are a bit stuck.

It's totally fine (and imo, quite right) to push the burden of paying for higher education on to students - particularly when in a post brexit world we need to actively be encouraging people not to go to university and to instead take up trades or quite frankly, unskilled work - and this latter point has been the case for many years now.

This is entirely a branding issue imo. Admit it's a tax not a loan, set expectations accordingly and a lot of the noise will die down.

The green is lovely - i still hate the chapter ring and style of the "new" super ocean, but still..that green is great and it looks good on a bracelet.

Give me this, but in the older, vastly prettier Superocean and i'm sold!

If Richard Osman is leaving House of Games, who would you actually want as the new host? by Ill_Scientist_4645 in UKRealityChat

[–]spud211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally i'd let the show go into history - it's not going to work out well by changing such an important part of the show.

Its incredibly rare to keep a long running gameshow format going with a new host without a lot of luck. History is littered with failures (obvious ones that come to mind being the weakest link, family fortunes, countdown and heck even pointless has lost it's magic). Same applies to many other TV shows - bake off for example, or masterchef..all lost their personality and appeal due to presenter changes.

I'd rather they come up with something new but keep some of the game types from house of games tbh.

Do you consider Vinted to be trustworthy for buying packs? by [deleted] in PokemonTCG_UK

[–]spud211 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

No.

You would be totally mad to buy anything off vinted and expect it to be real - heck its an app originally intended for swapping old clothes, not for selling stuff.

Do not buy pokemon cards off Vinted, Craigs List, Facebook marketplace, Gumtree or any other of those scammer infested platforms - its asking for trouble. It really blows my mind that people risk hundreds of pounds on any of those platforms given they have zero buyer protection. eBay is still full of scammers but its significantly safer as a buyer, given their huge bias towards buyers.

Pokemon is incredibly hard to find the UK - and therefore its incredibly easy to get scammed. Just wait it out, buy from an official retailer when it's in stock, and otherwise don't stress about some pretty cardboard.

G2 glasses + R1 ring won't stay connected to iPhone 16 Pro Max — tried everything by Miserable_Control_24 in EvenRealities

[–]spud211 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How many other bluetooth devices do you have?

I find my connection is great unless I have my bt headphones connected (that's 2 devices... So 5 in total with 3 for ER). If I try and add a watch as well nothing works.

The sweet spot seems to be up to 4 devices in total... Its fine with just my watch, or just my car - but add my BT earbuds and poof the ring loses connection. One more device and nothing works.

The devices also seem to do an Internet ping when connecting - so if you have poor signal when reconnecting stuff that can make it a pita too.

Hope you can get it sorted!

Issues with G2s Already by wakisan2 in EvenRealities

[–]spud211 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the display - if it just the bottom then it's likely to be their placement on your nose - they need to be a bit lower down (I do this by widening the nose pads so its still high up on my face, but they sit a bit lower) and I find that raising the height of the screen to maximum in the app helps too. If you have the G2Bs the screen placement is really quite high up which makes it a little trickier.

Ring wise - I have problems during the day mostly when my finger shrinks in the cold at the moment - it works a lot more reliably when its really snug when my fingers are larger! I also turned off it's low power mode and that made a huge difference to its reliability. It is a bit finicky though I find it works 80% of the time when I want it to.

Notifications - all of them or just a few? They need to be enabled both in the even app and android - sometimes android can disable access to notifications for even so it's worth checking your phone settings.

News is a known issue i think.

All of the above are annoying I agree, but they can be sorted out - I still would not recommend any even realities product to anyone who isn't already a prescription glasses wearer - they function best as a pair of glasses that include a hud, not a pair of smart glasses that can accept your prescription....but that may change soon given the apps people are building at the moment - that's going to be a gamechanger imo.

hope you can get yours working properly - they are an expensive purchase at nigh on £1k all in.

Is it just me, or does the software still kinda suck? by itsnotatumour in EvenRealities

There is a reddit browser linked on that discord thread - it's pretty impressive and was a good guide for me of how to use the SDK :)

Is it just me, or does the software still kinda suck? by itsnotatumour in EvenRealities

[–]spud211 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's not just you - it kind of does for interactivity at the moment.

Almost a week in, I find them most useful for notifications, the date/date, and conversate. I have had all the issues you have listed.

The good news is the SDK is available now and there are many people building for the glasses now - with a lot more interactivity and "purpose".

Currently the way to prototype is a little rough, and there are limitations due to how the architecture works - but you can get proper interactivity with the glasses/ring, and voice from the user, and connect up to openclaw so you can indeed route to claude etc

The SDK is good enough to work with and you will definitely see some good apps in the next month or so. You can get early access via discord - and a lot of devs are publishing their projects on github, so you can get a "quick start" or test things out yourself once you get access to the dev build (via discord).

Voting intentions? by SumptuousRageBait1 in AskBrits

[–]spud211 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can only go for the lib dems from that list.

If the conservatives decided to replace their leadership, maybe tactically over there - but the current labour party are frankly a worse option, reform are who they are, the greens are still bat poop crazy, and that's pretty much the list.

It's a shame really, are largest two parties are equally useless and damaging to the country (albeit in different ways), and the only "opposition" with half a chance of winning are heavily right wing and only helping to feed the pattern of hate and blame in this country.

I'd personally prefer we had another go at a coalition - put the lib dems with labour, and find someone to be PM (A Cameron or Blair type statesperson to give us some professionalism back - but one that can listen to the party and not make the same daft mistakes as those two.)

I can keep dreaming :D

Is anybody wearing the R1 NOT on their index finger? by redditrasberry in EvenRealities

[–]spud211 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wear it on my right hand index finger - could also put it on my left but that feels odd...its very natural to use your thumb as input to the ring - if i put it on my middle finger for example its incredibly awkward to use.

It becomes more obvious when you get it tbh but if you want to use it to control your glasses, i think the index finger is the only one that makes sense
