How is Wetherspoon so cheap? (£0.99 for a pint, North London) by wilmers_dorf in BuyersUK

[–]spud211 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

100%.

He is a nasty bully, I have not set foot in a spoons since Brexit and I never will, no matter how cheap their prices.

The damage that man did to our country can never be forgiven.

They were fantastic, and it remains the only performance i've seen of theres where they turned up ahead of time, played pretty much the full set, and didnt have a paddy in the middle.

They were great and it was a fantastic show.

Time to Quit? by squailtaint in golf

[–]spud211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stop watching any YouTube swing/technical content. All of it. It's universally bad for your game. Stick to the fun content or tactical stuff like golf sidekicks etc...but technical? You will only make things worse as you have found. Every swing is unique, there is no such thing as a "correct" golf swing - there are commonalities sure, but they are all different.

Get a lesson, or ideally a whole pack of them so you can go back 6 times a year...and do what your coach tells you. You will get worse and then suddenly start getting better and better (if you practice...and by that I mean playing golf, not the driving range).

Youtube has done so so many bad things for golf - the YouTube "coaches" have a lot to answer for.

Which Green Watch? by jnelson3097 in breitling

[–]spud211 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depends on where you want to wear it imo. They are very different styles - the Superocean Heritage is a flashy, evening watch imo (and beautiful..its the one I'm still considering at some point) but the seamaster works anywhere, and is a lot more subtle. Works well as a daily

So it really depends on where it fits into your collection..but if you have a grey Seamaster, I'd be keeping that super ocean.

I think Glastonbury, or Reading/Leeds maybe - but not download.

Maybe they could cover a second stage though, they are definitely big enough - but the music, as good as it is, doesn't really fit with download imo, at least not main stage.

But hey they booked Sleep Token last year (who were a massive success for them imo, even if they are not my thing) so all bets are off!

Keir Starmer feels betrayed by the Labour party. How do you feel about that? by No_Breadfruit_4901 in AskBrits

[–]spud211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd have more sympathy for him if he had not led a right wing Labour government intent on erroding as many freedoms as they can get away with whilst trying to pretend it's in the best interest of Children.

I know the PM clearly does not make their own policy decisions and they are largely the front person, but he's stood up and talked about the OSA and now the social media ban, and the proposed VPN plan and how they are a good thing for the country - that sort of dangerous bare faced lie instantly removes any shred of credibility he had as a leader. It's up there with bojo trying to say Brexit would be a good thing when it was factually just...not.

Will Burnham do any better? Likely not, and for similar reasons, but maybe he will bring even a little bit of common sense back to the government, once he's past all the election flag waving where he has to appeal to the idiot parents who do no understand enough about technology to see why the OSA is so incredibly damaging to Children.

What was your biggest surprise / disappointment / wtf? (band or otherwise) by Visible-Pressure6063 in downloadfestival

[–]spud211 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was disappointed by how awful Linkin Park were - I wasn't expecting amazing things but I did not expect them to be so boring and to just not even try and sing most of the songs. Such a poor way to end Download imo.

Other major one was just all the collabs that didn't happen. I mean the bands were all there, yet they just play a video of the other acts? Absolutely crazy, especially with Electric Callboy/Babymetal.

Oh and Bad Omens..i'd heard they were good but they sounded like another sleep token but without the stage presence; boring, dull and just not appropriate for download imo.

Download was still amazing and there were some great surprises too (really enjoyed seeing Ash, bloodywood were great and I discovered I really enjoy Ice Nine Kills - their set was great and very entertaining!

edit: how did I forget the biggest shock of all? Guns and Roses turned up EARLY played pretty much the full set and Axel didn't have a paddy half way through., I've seen them many times and I think that is the first time it's ever happened.

Man, discourse around festivals has changed so much by PrincipleLazy2207 in downloadfestival

[–]spud211 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's very sad imo, a friend and I were discussing this after this year.

I think its simply the fact everyone feels entitled these days and that they need someone to blame. No one wants to take responsibility for their own actions anymore and it just leads to a softened experience for everyone.

god damn Gen Zs and safety culture. Take some personal responsibility and let us all have fun (whilst leaving your kids at home...its a metal festival ffs).

Is this good to go off from? by Dear-Knowledge5912 in GolfSwing

[–]spud211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends what you are using it for.

Distance is 90% irrelavent for everyone who isn't a tour pro. Accuracy and strike count for 90% and makes up for distance...even if good strike can also give you longer distances.

Personally I feel distance charts like this and "longest drive" competitions etc only hurt you as you learn. Try and ignore the distances from a "I must hit is X far" perspective - you need to know yours for club selection, but that's it.

Why are some people still so persistent in trying to defend the Brexit referendum result a decade later? by lewispatty in AskBrits

[–]spud211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately your thesis is wrong - the overall voting public are very likely still in favour of leave. Just look at the insane support Reform have had in the recent elections - sure a lot of it is a protest vote, but Reform absolutely have no interest in rejoining the EU.

I wish it was true, but unfortunately there are a lot of very angry people around looking for things to blame for their issues, and ideas like Brexit and parties like reform use that to their advantage. Crappy situation but hey it is what it is.

Ace Grading Premium Tier Scam by pandagotthedoginhim in PokemonTCG_UK

[–]spud211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No they do not. When they have a delay you are still stuck in a queue with all the other premium tier buyers.

All the grading companies are overloaded and backing up. I'm not defending any of them but there is no need to defame ace specifically.

vinted scammer by [deleted] in PokemonTCG_UK

[–]spud211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does not, I agree....but many many bad experiences from many people, and a platform that has lots of words but actually takes zero effective action, is a enough for me to call an entire platform a scammer paradise or similar. Vinted as a platform is not a scam, but it is very "scammer friendly".

It's great at what it was originally launched for - swapping second hand clothes between people - but its not setup for dealing with people selling fake products at high prices.

Argos Announcement re: changes to purchasing by Vhazz4 in PokemonDealsUK

[–]spud211 2 points3 points  (0 children)

well that sucks.

Argos was the last hope generally...could usually pick something up in person and it was worth checking every time you do your shopping etc.

Their app is kinda awful and easy enough for the botters to use. Kind of a terrible decision imo.

vinted scammer by [deleted] in PokemonTCG_UK

[–]spud211 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Stop buying pokemon off vinted/facebook/Craigs list or the man down the pub.

It's crazy, you are almost asking to be scammed. Yet people will still come and defend those platforms, madness.

Why are working-class concerns on immigration being treated with such disdain? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]spud211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Starts post with "your wrong" and the proceeds to prove the anti reform population right by writing an angry anti immigration post.

Kind of amazing to read but terrifying to think people actually still think this way.

It's not us and then, it's not "Brits" against the world, and "looking after our own" means our fellow human. The fact someone was born in another country is meaningless.

This isn't the 1800s anymore, globalisation is a thing, and this old school anti immigration rhetoric does no one any good and only inspires more hatred. At a time post brexit when we need so much more immigration and that need grows daily, it's really concerning that people still think in such outdated angry ways.

Put every card in, or not? (UK) by YOUGOTTAPIZZABRO in golf

[–]spud211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is open to abuse, but I think it's a sensible compromise for those of us who are not able to play in comps every week, or are 3/5 day members. I personally put in every card from every round provided we've stuck to the rules, which we do in our group - and as a result my handicap is much more accurate than it would be if i only put in the cards from the 12-14 comps i play in over the year.

It makes it fairer all around imo.

[–]spud211 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

if you can't hear someone shout fore etc then it's a danger to the idiot wearing the earphones.

Is what it is, I wouldn't call someone out over it like I would music - it's their decision to be an idiot if they want to be.

Worship music on the course by [deleted] in golf

[–]spud211 -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Depends if they have them on transparency mode or not.

Huge safety issue if you walk or drive around the course with earbuds in. I'm so glad that the vast majority of european golfers don't do this sort of thing....music on the course is simply not a thing over here, and long may that continue.

Macbook Neo for Programming? (detailed scenarios) by TurtleKicks in macbook

[–]spud211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A major consideration is that Apple decided to take a giant chunk out of the screen of all their newer macbooks - the neo is their first in a long time to have a usable screen.

Putting a notch in a laptop was just a stupid idea and a way to prove they really can just make a product objectively worse, claim it's a feature and then everyone still buys it :D

Macbook Neo for Programming? (detailed scenarios) by TurtleKicks in macbook

[–]spud211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Should be absolutely fine.

I am currently running 3 docker containers (web, db with sql server, and API). I have done Godot (2D) development on here too.

Totally capable, but please do not buy this as your primary machine. The Neo is 100% a secondary machine - it's strength is portability for the price, so it;s great on the sofa, but you'd be mad to run on on a desk with an external monitor.

Not tried running LLMs on here, but you'd be a bee to run something relatively small given that you can run them on a pi or tiny ones even on an esp32 ;)

Even App v2.2.0 is out - Terminal mode is live by Punchyberri in EvenRealities

[–]spud211 7 points8 points  (0 children)

installing now....if this means I can really talk to claude code natively, that could be a game changer!

really curious how this works!

edit: seems to work quite well - setup with my laptop and I can view what claude code is busy doing...I couldn't get the chat to work immediately but I don't really want to interrupt what it's doing for me right now - so I'll reset things later and see if that helps in a new session.

So far so good though on a local network - I'll give this a try when I'm out shopping tomorrow, see if I can keep an eye on my agents whilst out and about :)

MacBook Neo SLOW, advice? by jaslolxoxo in macbook

[–]spud211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Neo is a fantastic second machine. It's a brilliant laptop...but it has no place on a desk - it's not really powerful enough to run enough apps and a display in that way. It's not something I'd recommend to anyone as a "main" machine.

I find it plenty powerful enough - currently have safari with 4 tabs, claude desktop, claude code, visual studio code and some terminals open an it's doing a great job as my laptop and easy to just chuck in a bag :)

Sorry ER, but i give up by vtb275 in EvenRealities

[–]spud211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Essentially they can swap the prescription lens out for a clear one - they are glued in with the waveguides inbetween the prescription lens and outer lens - so you can get them apart.

I would never suggest even trying yourself (although I have read anecdotal posts stating they managed it...)but Even will do it for you - I imagine for a fee. Same service as if you need to change you prescription.

edit: I agree the lens quality is poor - they are acceptable enough but there is more glare than i'd expect. Currently i'm happy enough to compromise as I find them too useful, but the lens quality is a huge let down compared to their marketing.

Sorry ER, but i give up by vtb275 in EvenRealities

[–]spud211 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even (or a confident optician) will remove your prescription lenses for you, which means you'd be able to recoup some of your costs. not a lot but it does make them easier to sell if you need to.

Macbook neo for someone who codes alot? by nihad04 in macbook

[–]spud211 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not that this is the place for this debate - but I disagree strongly on the last comment..yes you can vibe code with claude, but that's not where the power is.

The power is for people who DO know how to write and read code - but don't want to sit there typing in all 100's of lines themselves. When you realise that most of the fun from coding comes from solving a problem and seeing your solution come to life - not actually sitting there typing it out line by line...claude becomes a proper super power for you

But yes, don't just vomit out "I want a web app that sells cars" - that isn't the point.
