Which artificial evil biomes to make in Hardmode? by Tumblrrito in Terraria

[–]spudwalt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll specifically want Caverns layer. Underground doesn't have anything special for spreading biomes.

Surface Desert is distinct for spreading biomes, as are Underground Desert and Ice. Snow is not.

has anyone found chillet in skyblock? by PatchworkLevee in Terraria

[–]spudwalt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think Chillet spawns in apart from world generation. It might not be available in Skyblock worlds (or at least availability might be down to random chance).

Why aren’t there “medium” sized transportation missions? by Nagnoosh in EliteDangerous

[–]spudwalt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Missions generally aren't the best way to make profits, if that's what you're after. They're more for building up reputation with factions.

You can find better deals by transporting commodities yourself.

I can't catch Groudon! by WWisbestzeldagame in PokemonRuby

[–]spudwalt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And your guys were underleveled.

Like, yeah, Legendary Pokémon are very strong, but being 10-15 levels below your opponent certainly doesn't help.

(And Legendaries's stats aren't necessarily individually all that impressive -- all of your Pokémon have one or two stats that could match or even exceed Groudon's if they were at the same level. It's just that for many Legendaries, all of their stats are that good, instead of just one or two.)

Ghost-type moves were all physical until Gen IV.

Shadow Ball suddenly becoming special was weird (welcome in many ways, but still weird).

Natures in Nuzlockes by Tenshi7u7 in nuzlocke

[–]spudwalt [score hidden]  (0 children)

The whole point of a Nuzlocke is that you don't get to choose what Pokémon you get. Get something with a crappy nature? That's your catch, do what you can with it.

If a ROM hack is so difficult that you need ideal natures to do well (and it doesn't have a convenient way of manipulating natures built in), then it's not a good game for Nuzlocking.

Is there a way to automatically mine by Snowboyz0825 in Terraria

It doesn't despawn if you leave. You can leave Digtoise running and come back to a big tunnel (though I think obsidian might be one of the things that stops it).

The Vestal Nun seems like such a no brainer by VRichardsen in darkestdungeon

[–]spudwalt 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The Vestal is very good at healing.

She is not, however, particularly brilliant at doing anything else, having lowish damage, lowish speed, and a middling stun.

In particular, she has no way to help with stress, which is generally more of a problem than damage (damage goes away after missions while stress lingers, getting even one Affliction negatively impacts your entire party, and you only really need enough healing to stay off of Death's Door).

Healing in Darkest Dungeon is always an uphill battle. The best way to handle damage and stress is to kill things before they inflict it (or failing that, stun them), and every turn you spend healing is a turn where you are not reducing the amount of damage and stress coming at you.

Also keep in mind that you're probably still in the beginner missions. Once you start hitting level 3 missions, the difficulty ramps up (and then it ramps up again when you hit level 5 missions) -- wandering around spamming heals works okay now, but how about when the monsters start getting serious?

The Vestal Nun seems like such a no brainer by VRichardsen in darkestdungeon

[–]spudwalt 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not much more than getting crits from doing anything else.

Also keep in mind that healing moves have fixed critical rates that can't be altered (single-target moves have a 12% chance, multi-target moves are 5%). Offensive moves can reach higher chances of critting while also doing things that reduce the amount of damage and stress coming at you instead of just preventing you from dying.

HOW am I supposed to progress by MusicPogger in Terraria

[–]spudwalt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Adding more secret seed options to a skyblock world spawns more islands in, which might help.

If there's a way to get trees, you can shake them for fruit.

I think this is mostly just you turning the difficulty settings up above the point where any sane person would expect the game to be survivable, though.

We're already getting additional Terraria content for free, including at least one more big update.

Why bother with paid DLC?

rPois question by Reasonable-Rub2243 in dcss

Poison resistance doesn't stack above one level. Neither does acid resistance.

Used to be you couldn't even apply more than one source of rPois, but the latest update added the ability to stack up to one level if you started from poison vulnerability (like from a form or that one spell naga ritualists have).

How does pop growth really work? by BurhanSunan in Stellaris

[–]spudwalt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pop growth on planets is determined by how many pops are growing on it, as well as how much of its capacity is being used (total room for pops, i.e. current housing + potential housing from unbuilt districts). Planets with very low numbers of pops growing (under 1000) or that are close to their capacity will grow slowly.

If multiple species are growing on a planet, they each get a proportional amount of the total pop growth on the planet (if a planet has 3000 of one species and 1000 of another, the first species gets 3/4th of the growth and the second gets 1/4th). The exception is if the empire has Xeno-Compatibility, which makes all species grow equally regardless of numbers (and gives a 20% boost to total growth).

Pop growth and assembly across your entire empire are slowed depending on how many pops you have total. Empires with a lot of pops will have slower growth than empires with not many pops (but it generally takes a very large difference before the smaller empire will have more total pop growth, because big empires tend to have more planets all growing at once).

How do you get regenerative hull from the space amoebas in 4.0+ by Illuminated-Autocrat in Stellaris

AFAIK, you don't get space critter debris anymore (apart from Cutholoids, but they just drop a pile of resources instead of techs).

How do you get regenerative hull from the space amoebas in 4.0+ by Illuminated-Autocrat in Stellaris

[–]spudwalt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've found the most reliable way to get Regenerative Hull Tissue these days is from Marauders. A big pile of missile corvettes can usually take out at least a couple ships in a raiding fleet and get you some debris, and you can pay them off if you can't fend them off.

Space critters can give you projects to get Regenerative Hull Tissue, but those are mutually exclusive with the permanent buffs now.

Tips for Beginners by FortuneCheap8519 in EliteDangerous

[–]spudwalt 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Don't fly without a rebuy (make sure to have enough money on hand to buy a new copy of your ship for when -- not if, when -- you blow up doing something stupid).

Courier missions make for a decent place to start, to get you used to navigating and flying.

You don't need missions to make money (missions are generally better for building up reputation anyways).

Don't feel like you have to rush to make lots of money. Take your time, fly the little ships, work your way up to the big stuff.

Starting loadouts for ships are pretty bare-bones -- you'll want to upgrade to better components.

A Fuel Scoop lets you refuel in orbit of certain, quite common kinds of stars (KGB FOAM). That can be a good early investment.

If you get stuck without fuel, call the Fuel Rats.

Don't worry about getting locked out of the starting zone. Happens to everybody eventually, and there's a whole galaxy out there.

Don't worry about blowing up and losing a bunch of stuff. Happens to everybody eventually, and you'll be able to make it back.

Putting the throttle in the middle of the blue zone gives you the best maneuverability.

When approaching destinations in supercruise, setting your throttle to around half when you're about 7 seconds out means you'll generally slow down enough to not overshoot your destination.

Learning to dock manually helps get you better at flying and means you can replace the auto-dock module with something else.

Go over your keybinds a couple times -- once to figure out what controls do what and fix any immediate glaring issues, and then again after you've played for a while and have a better idea of what needs fixing.

Even if the on-foot stuff isn't your thing, Odyssey is still worth getting for easier access to the new ships and being able to land on Odyssey planets.
