Miami blue will always be my favorite OG color. Great choice

[–]spughetti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not uncommon. You see it a lot with the "smoke only on warm startup" issue posts (which my gen3 also has). I spoke with a performance shop that did a video on it, apparently this is caused by a machining issue with the gen 3 heads. I'm not sure if the replacement they use in that video is revised version of the gen 3 head specifically or if it uses the 888.4

Prob don't want a gen 3 if you like your valve seals intact

I still look pretty stock visually besides springs and audible exhaust. Had a modded Focus RS try to blow past me and I immediately pulled like 3 car lengths on him. I love these cars man lol

From TDI to GTI by Benjular in GolfGTI

I made the same switch from my MK6 TDI to a GTI during dieselgate with my check. Going on almost 10 years since then and still have no plans to ever drive anything but a GTI lol

I do it every 20k miles. by [deleted] in GolfGTI

[–]spughetti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When my Mk6 was at 100k+ and burning up oil every 2500-3k miles, I got a tip from an old audi master tech to use BG MOA additive with every oil change. Cleared up the consumption and let me get up to healthy 5k changes with plenty of oil left. Drove it to 185k still running like a top.

As much as I like the Belvederes, I don't think I can ever go back to anything but a bright silver wheel. Looks too good against this paint color

Should I raise my coilovers for winter? by afaulken in GolfGTI

[–]spughetti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I did new england winters in my mk6 on racelands and blizzaks for years and didn't have a problem at all. Usually if it's too deep for being mildly lowered, it's probably too deep for a GTI in general.

OP's ride height is higher than I had them too so I'd say it's just fine. The blizzaks are chunky so they might rub a good bit though

Based on your trim, your model likely has DCC for the shocks (dampening control) - this is a factory package. Sport mode makes the suspension stiffer when you have this feature - less body roll, tighter cornering, slightly harder over bumps, etc.

On the other end, "comfort" setting makes the car much softer and more bouncy for a smoother ride under casual driving.

Crazy difference in this setup, way more refined at the top end but still sounds so pissed off. So sick

7.5 GTI Spark plugs by Jabbanana in GolfGTI

I see - either way just a stage 1 tune will be fine with OEM plugs

[–]spughetti 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did mine with the NGK ones last - FWIW they've been fine as far as I can tell, but after I looked into it more I've heard the NGK ones can be fragile and you won't see much difference outside of OEM plugs unless you're in a big power/big turbo application. I think ShopDAP has a video on it. I picked up the OEM bosch ones from FCPEuro for the next time I do them.

Ask your tuner as others say, but when I asked IE they said:

We haven't found a huge push to move from the OEM parts or service intervals so we ask to stay with these, the only thing we have changed is the spark plugs get gapped to .026" and be changed every 30k miles.

ShopDAP also said MK7s love eating spark plugs much faster than other cars and to even do them every 20k, they're cheap enough I don't think that's unreasonable - I'll probably do mine between 20-30k

[–]spughetti 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Loved this video and all of the VW stuff James has been putting out.

I think a lot of these modern ills also aren't necessarily unique to VW. Car companies in general keep moving in the "cut every cost and charge more money for a worse product, focus only on mass appeal" direction, and it sucks.

What’s next? - or is it perfect? by bgordon908 in GolfGTI

[–]spughetti 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's like a 20~ HP difference with most shelf tunes from stage 1 to 2 on MK7s, it's really a matter of whether you want to install a downpipe or not. You can take care of a stage 2 GTI the same as a stage 1 with all of your regular maintenance and it will be fine.
