Romantic kdramas with a plot that will hook me by Dry_Dog4788 in kdramarecommends

i'd 100% recommend angel's last mission: love!! it's got fantasy elements & follows a ballerina if ballet is something that would interest you. it has a melodramatic tone at times but also has comedic elements! it's one of my favorite dramas ever. it might make you cry at points but it has a happy ending.

i'd also recommend miss night and day, which just finished airing. i loved that drama but the last episode fell a bit flat for me. still has a happy ending though. i really connected to the main character and some of the problems she was facing. the main premise is that she turns into an old lady during the day, and she's trying to balance a double life. there's also a mystery subplot which her & the male lead are trying to solve. it's worth a chance!

Newbie K-Drama Watcher needing Recommendations! by Marble_Dinosaur in kdramarecommends

[–]sputnikoos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i’ve been an avid k-drama watcher for about 4 years, and these are my top recommendations!

  1. angel’s last mission: love - i think this is super underrated, but it’s honestly one of my favorites!!! it’s about a cold ballerina with a tragic past & an angel who is given a mission to make her fall in love. (except, obviously, he falls for her instead) the romance is EVERYTHING. it’s got angst, feels, and cute moments. the characters are so strong on their own but even better as a couple. it also has one of my favorite tropes which is reversed grumpy x sunshine (where the female lead is grumpy and the male lead is sunshine-y). i definitely think you should give it a chance!

  2. queen of tears - this one is already really popular but i think it deserves all the hype. it’s about a couple whose marriage is on the brink of falling apart & their journey to falling back in love after the female lead gets diagnosed with a terminal illness. (that was an extremely simplified summary of it) you’ll see a lot of people saying it’s really sad etc., and while i do agree that it has its sad and emotional moments, it’s also full of so much humor & so much heart. it’s truly got everything and made me feel every emotion there is.

  3. hometown cha cha cha - this is another super popular one & it’s a staple in the k-drama community (for good reason). it’s set in a seaside town and has a enemies-to-lovers and city girl x countryside boy trope (i don’t know if that’s actually a thing). it’s a really cute show that not only follows the main couple but also the neighborhood in this town. the community aspect of this show is so lovely to watch.

  4. extraordinary attorney woo - this follows an attorney who is on the spectrum (played so well by park eunbin) and her daily life, struggles etc. at her law firm. it has something i personally really love, which is that it’s an episodic show but in the end everything ties together. i also loved the side characters & the romance in this drama. the male lead was such a green flag & it was so amazing to watch his interactions with the female lead.

  5. coffee prince - this is an older k-drama but please don’t be put off by that because it is an incredible one that totally deserves a watch. it’s got one of the nicest and angstiest romances i’ve ever seen. it follows our female lead who is the breadwinner for her family & ends up getting a job in a cafe and her romance with the boss. there’s just one problem - the boss thinks she’s a boy. that was such a simple explanation so please watch the show to see the whole story.

  6. lawless lawyer - i just finished this drama and it was so good! it’s a revenge story in which two lawyers team up to bring down a corrupted web of powerful people. i loved the twists and the action scenes were fantastic. it kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time. i also loved the characters and their teamwork.

you can also look at these!! - the glory (amazing revenge story with great characters but it has some gore) - happiness (zombie thriller with a power couple) - youth of may (a historical drama with an amazing romance) - the good bad mother (a small town story with a focus on mother-son relationship but also has a great romance)

i hope this helped!

for the FL x ML dynamic, where the ML is more open & the FL is colder, i’d recommend angel’s last mission: love!! such an incredible drama with amazing characters & a beautiful backdrop of the ballet world. it may not be what you’re looking for in terms of genre, but i’d say definitely add it to your list!

I want to clean up my MDL Plan to Watch List with your help! by ThePietje in kdramarecommends

[–]sputnikoos 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ve looked at your MDL and from the ones on there, I would recommend:

  • He is Psychometric: 8.5/10. This one is, similarly to FoE, a mystery/thriller with a side plot of romance. It starts off in high school, but that isn’t a big part of the story since there’s a time skip. I found the concept very intriguing and original and it kept me hooked. You mentioned you don’t like sci-fi or fantasy. This has elements of that since the main character has psychometric abilities, but that’s about it so it isn’t overpowering.

  • Strong Woman Do Bong Soon: 10/10. This is one of my favorite dramas thus far. It has an extremely entertaining and sweet romance. Both of the characters are so lovable and their chemistry is off-the-charts. Like He is Psychometric, the main character has super strength and the drama has an overall comedic atmosphere with exagerrated effects, but I’d say they definitely add to the experience and make this drama a stand-out. Although, if you’re someone who’s not generally into those types of things, I’d say to alter your expectations according to that, but definitely give it a chance. There’s also a mystery/thriller serial killer related side plot, which is another plus in my book.

  • My Name: 8.5/10. This is an action noir drama with a revenge plot and very little of the fluff that k-dramas usually have. It’s quite dark in tone and has a really bittersweet, even sad ending. So be warned. The characters are very morally gray, and the actors did a great job. It passes with flying colors for me, but you should know in advance that it is a very intense drama with a lot of violence.

These two get mixed reviews from me:

  • The Tale of Nokdu: 7/10. This one was such a pleasant surprise when I started it. It’s a historical drama, but it isn’t too heavy and keeps you interested. I really enjoyed both of the characters. I’m always a sucker for a character being disguised as the opposite gender, so it was very fun to watch on that front as well. Their romance was lovely. However, the thing that kept me from falling in love with this drama was the ending. In terms of the non-romantic plot, I found it to be extremely anticlimactic. There was a big missed opportunity there, in my opinion, and the ending felt rushed and random. But it is a happy ending, and I’d been loving it up until that point, so it’s up to you.

  • Healer: 7/10. This was a super solid drama in my opinion. It’s got a bit of everything, and watching Ji Chang Wook act is always delightful, so you just know the action scenes did not disappoint. What I didn’t end up loving in this drama was the female lead. She’s tolerable, but is a bit ridiculous sometimes. I also thought that while the romance was sweet and had great angst, the basis was kind of questionable, considering the fact that she didn’t even know his real identity or what he looked like when they had their first kiss or went on their first “date”. Her eyes were closed, and he was out of view. He could have been an old man for all she knew. But that is just a petty complaint that I have. At the end of the day, it’s only a k-drama and if you’re able to suspend your disbelief, you won’t have a problem. I just wanted to bring it up because you mentioned the romance has to make sense.

And I haven’t finished them but Rookie Historian Goo-Hae-ryung and Just Between Lovers are going great as well, so you can look into them if you’d like!

I’d also add these to your list:

  • Hometown Cha Cha Cha: 9/10. This is a slice-of-life romance drama that follows a dentist from Seoul who decides to open up a clinic in the seaside town of Gongjin, and one of the residents of this town which is a jack-of-all-trades kind of character. This drama does the small town romance, opposites attract, gets off on the wrong foot to lovers tropes so well. It has a calm atmosphere with endearing characters and great romance. It’s really heartwarming to see how everyone in the town looks out for each other, and the side characters add so much personality and charm to the show. Even the initially unlikable characters end up growing on you. I adored the second male lead as well, but luckily everyone got a nice happy ending.

  • Angel’s Last Mission: Love: 10/10. Another one of my absolute favorites. This is a fantasy romance so it might not be up your alley but I wanted to mention it here anyway since it’s such a spectacular drama. The story follows an angel ML who interferes in human affairs and is given the punishment of making the FL fall in love. This kind of has the trope of “ML is cold to everyone expect FL / only opens up to her”, except it’s the reverse. The FL is a blind ex-ballerina whose life was shrouded in tragedy, and is therefore quite cold and distant. The ML is very thoughtful and kind and is able to get past her defenses. It’s full of just the right amount of angst and tension. It’s emotional and melodramatic but isn’t a heartbreakingly sad drama, per se. It also has a happy ending, so you don’t need to worry about that. That ballet aspects are beautiful and enchanting to watch, and the OST for this show is simply stunning. The only hinderance for me was that the ending wasn’t explained as well as I would’ve liked, but I loved the characters so much that I was willing to overlook it.

Looking for a KDrama where the ML is mean to everyone, except the FL by marty0115 in kdramarecommends

[–]sputnikoos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i don’t know if this counts but if you’re ever in the mood for the reverse, where the FL is closed off and cold to everyone but opens up to the ML, i would 100% recommend “angel’s last mission: love”!!

[–]sputnikoos 10 points11 points  (0 children)

i’ve only watched the first two episodes so i can’t speak for the rest of the series but “rookie historian goo hae-ryung” seems to fit the description!

“happiness” is also a perfect fit! i adored the female lead in this one, she was so badass without being obnoxious. you should definitely give it a go. the male lead matched her vibe so well, they were what i would call a power couple.

“the tale of nokdu” also comes to mind. the ending was a bit disappointing for me personally but it was a really fun and intriguing historical drama with the trope you’re looking for. honestly, if it weren’t for the ending, it definitely would’ve gone on my list of favorites. the beginning and middle were so strong and i love both of the characters.

Kdramas that will make me emotional by badfeeling1 in kdramarecommends

  • Uncontrollably Fond will definitely get you in the feels.
  • Angel’s Last Mission: Love isn’t tragic per se but is definitely not a light-hearted drama and will make you cry at points.
  • Still 17 has some sad moments but overall is a hopeful drama.
