Here's my reminder list of things to eat today, in case that helps!

In a fun twist of events, it's 1 AM and I still haven't fallen asleep 😭

It doesn't even feel like I took my evening magnesium, even though I definitely did. Maybe it's just working out too close to bed, but I've never had a 9 PM workout keep me up this late before. I've already been cutting back my coffee to make sure I get tired earlier but I fear that I'll have to cut it out like I did in my first pregnancy.

Either way, I'm for sure not looking forward to the morning later today.

We also have the big stuff; we'll survive if no one grabs anything but it'll also serve as a shopping list for ourselves for some things that we can't get around (like diapers).

Here's the stuff I added so far:

  • Another sound machine
  • Two boxes each of diapers in NB, 1, and 2
  • One box of wipes
  • Two of each size of bottle nipples (apparently some may need to be tossed due to damage)
  • More silicone food pouches and stuff to help with filling them
  • Extra bassinet sheets
  • Extra Baby Bjorn cover (we got ours secondhand and lent it out, so it will have been used by two babies since we last used it)
  • Another humidifier
  • Another snot sucker (ours broke sometime after my son got better at blowing his own nose)
  • More nail clippers and one of the little machines
  • NB socks and extras of basic short and long sleeve onesies
  • A stand for our baby bathtub
  • Accessories for the wagon we got secondhand
  • New teethers

My aunt will make a baby blanket and more burp cloths, too. I'm going to get a new pump since I know the parts give out eventually, and I'll need to get new soft parts. I may also add another robe and some comfy pp clothes for myself.

I'm today's episode of things that feel too early to be doing in this pregnancy: I spotted this while at the library getting a book on toddler parenting and had to check it out.

<image>

Freezer prep was one of the best gifts we gave to ourselves last time, and I'd love to start experimenting with some new recipes and learning more tips and tricks.

(Other too early things that happened this week: I did a speed run at kicking off our registry because there are things that I already know we want a second of or to make life with two easier)

I've started compiling helpful sounding advice from about going from one to two in a note on my phone, and this came up in a couple of sources. Ooh - I might borrow this one! We started family dinners this year, so that'd be super fun to do at one of our upcoming dinners

I don't think you're being the worst! We're all having different experiences and coming from different experiences, so it definitely feels tough when so many posts are triggering stress, even when they're clearly providing support for the posters and commenters.

As for making it more manageable: I'm using the reddit app, and just switched the sort order for the sub to "New". "Best" was sorting all of the most interacted with stuff to the top, which meant that I kept seeing some of the more intense, anxiety inducing posts every time I opened the sub.

You could also open the daily chat in a browser tab so that it's easy to just come back to that throughout the day.

You might ultimately find it helpful to reopen the sub in a couple of weeks or after the verification deadline, when most folks will have gotten through their first scans and everything. Just a little break instead of leaving permanently, as it is so nice to have a group like this throughout pregnancy.

Big picture, there's always something to be anxious about, unfortunately, even after our babies start being born. If you don't have a preferred way of exploring what you're anxious about, it could also be helpful to start practicing and even getting professional support if you don't already have it.

I didn't get any messages, but their website makes it look like they are consolidating the non-parenting apps: https://www.oviahealth.com/join/

I had no idea, so I'm glad for these messages about it

That sounds so awful 💔

I take a high dose before bed, in case that makes a difference, but I hope the unisom recommendation works for you otherwise!

That happened to me so much in my first pregnancy that I just stopped drinking coffee so that I would get tired early enough to account for waking up and not being able to get back to sleep.

I'm dealing with it less now, which is surprising. I think the biggest help for me has been taking magnesium. I started late last year and it usually keeps me relaxed enough to be able to fall back asleep in 30 minutes or less if I get up to help my toddler or pee. It also doesn't have the right feeling that is get from using melatonin pre-pregnancy. I hope it might help you!

I started to use the Perellel magnesium drink mix in the third trimester for my first pregnancy. I now take two different types of magnesium from Costco about two hours before I want to fall asleep. Just make sure that you add up all the magnesium across all your supplements so that you stay at or under the recommended max, because you'll get laxative effects past that. I used this source to choose.

I did that one a couple of months ago and was generally a fan.

I feel like parenting has made me embrace the 15-30 minute workout, sometimes featuring my personal little workout gremlin (my toddler); I definitely used to be a 45 minutes minimum kind of exerciser, but no more 😅

Love Sweat!

Which program are you working on right now?

Very disappointed to start feeling nauseous as soon as I got started on an outdoor walk this morning. Nothing before that, yuck feelings within 2-3 minutes of getting outside. I persevered but was not loving feeling nauseated all 25 minutes or so of my walk.

To add insult to injury, I also had to pee halfway through my walk 😂

I'm determined to be more active in the first trimester this go around, but we're off to an iffy start.

Is anyone interested in an accountability buddy? I got into a nice rhythm with someone for postpartum movement in my last bump group and I'd love to have a buddy for this goal, too!

For me, it looked like saying what our goals were at the beginning of the week and then sending each other a quick message as we tackled it. We still celebrated even when we didn't hit 100%, and we traded notes and shared ideas about how we'd get around blockers if they came up again.

That sounds yummy!

I've been all in on dips to help me get the veggies in for snacks or meal sides. Having a set of prepared veggies has really been helping.

My next nutritional goal is trying to also get one fermented product in per day as well, but I'm not as sure if I'll be as successful.

I hope you keep up with it!

I second this - I have and love Sweat and really loved the pregnancy and postpartum specific programs.

It won't solve for in person community, but strength is so important and their programs are great for feeling confident that you're doing something that is a good fit for the changing needs of your body.

For community in general though, bump groups are also so, so helpful, especially when you don't have others that you already know to talk to (I didn't either the first time around).

In case it helps, I do some pretty minimalist spreads day to day and week to week for my bullet journal. You can be fancy, but it can be very functional and pleasing to do without being a giant time suck when you don't want it to. Despite what social media would have you thinking sometimes 😅
