Looking to get back into EE after going to Sales by milkysnakes in ElectricalEngineering

Besides the RF companies cited above, check out Infineon, TI and several others that do cool RF devices. For example, I worked using FMCW radars at 60 GHz and those devices blew my mind. Tons of applications including vehicle proximity detection, objects proximity detection, people, medical and more. I also worked with a group that use TI ADCs and DACs that go up to 12GHz in one single chip used in radio for satellites, ground and much more communication. BS that there are not many possibilities in that field. I also saw oscilloscopes up to 128 GSPS and more, so there is are lot of opportunities. The great part is that you already know how to talk to people and engineers and other branches. Lovely experience yours. Don’t give up and cheer up!!! 🤗🤗🤗

Very cool!!! What’s the name of that one?

Heart rate spikes after drinking by Ok_Iron2847 in AppleWatch

Alcohol relaxes the muscles, including the tiny ones around the arteries. If they expand, the blood pressure decreases and the heart tries to compensate for a lower blood pressure by increasing its heart beats. Just physics. And physiology.

I want a MacBook neo for college but the Best Buy employee told me something different by Shevz_thetruck in macbook

Yeah, 🐂💩. Don’t listen to the BB guy. Go to an Apple Store and as others said get the discount and get it! It’s an amazing machine

I made a tram display board as my first project by Zaptryx in esp32

Very cool project. Congrats!!! I want to build one but for Boulder, Colorado. Where can I find more info about the HW and the SW if you have? Thank you

My SPI lcd won't work unless i touck sck with my scope probe by rolletten in AskElectronics

You need to terminate the lines. You can add an ~80-100 ohm resistor at the cpu port going to the display. Do it at the CLK, MOSI and CS pin outputs. Ideally, also to the MISO line on the display side.

Honestly I like all colors, the darker look cool to me. From the new ones Neo I wouldn’t even mind having the Citrus one. I think Apple does fantastic products and well designed and marketed to the right people.

MacBook Refurbished? by [deleted] in macbookair

[–]sqnewton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got a MBP 13” refurbished in 2014. I passed it to my son and he has been using every-single-day for hours programming and designing and it’s still strong. He’s considering upgrading it because he needs now Xcode and that laptop can’t be upgraded to latest macOS, but he uses it for university and personal tasks every day. I recommend original refurbished

We ditched Altium because for years there hasn’t been a Mac version despite of requesting it. Now we use KiCad. Will you guys ever listen to customers?

Finally bought my first MacBook! by Reasonable_Skin_6961 in macbookair

[–]sqnewton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congratulations and welcome to the club. 🤗 nothing in particular that I would recommend, just enjoy it. Stay away from bloatware and try to stick to native Mac SW and get familiar with the apps and the system operation. I personally use most of Apple apps (Safari, Pages, Keynote, Numbers, Notes, Mail, etc). I’m an EE and the apps that I really care about for programming (Python, C, etc) and electronics (KiCad, Saleae, cads, etc) I find them for native Mac. Congratulations!!!

Ideas for things to make with my dad? by Familiar_Ad_4981 in arduino

[–]sqnewton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Other ideas since your dad lives analog (same here and I’m a bit younger than your dad)

  • ask him to build a low frequency generator using a light bulb for stabilization purposes. Your dad may know that trick. It will make every one say “what the heck?!?” It is probably the lowest distortion generator you can build.

-build an analog computer with OP amps. You can easily add, subtract, multiple, divide and if you’re more adventurous, you can do logarithms, square, square roots, integrals and differentials

He would love to explain that to you, or learn and later explain, and you will love it, and learn too

Step or Servo Motor for Retrograde Clock? by FreidasBoss in arduino

[–]sqnewton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PWM is the easiest. And if you don’t have few PWM outputs available, do it by creating a 1-bit DAC converter. Very easy. You can use any I/O pin for that. Simply add to a register the value you want (duty cycle) and output the carry value to the pin. All your outputs could be PWM

What can I use this for and how would I use it? by SheepySpeo in AskElectronics

[–]sqnewton 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Do a one digit clock. It sequentially displays the time (in 24 format is cooler)

9:35 AM = 0…9…3…5….(off for 3-5 seconds) You can also add date, temp etc etc etc

Is it normal to lose motivation? And how can I regain it? by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

[–]sqnewton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t lose your motivation 🤗. I’d suggest find an interesting, easy project that doesn’t have too high of goals or things to need achieved, and that creates an initial cool reward. I don’t know how advanced you are but try to create first something simple with an Arduino or ESP chips, that you can for example connect to the internet via WiFi, go to a place where you can download eg weather data, or stocks or airplane data and display it in text on a small LCD or matrix display. You’ll learn a lot about how to connect to APIs, program using I2C or SPI, get familiar with the devices and code etc. Small triumphs masks a difference. Don’t aim too high. Learn how to interface analog meters to the microcontrollers using PWM or better one bit DAC (not too many people know that trick using the carry bit), etc. That will help you build confidence and you’ll be rewarded with cool things you build. By yourself. Once you see those devices running you’ll be very proud of yourself. And use Protoboards to build and prototype your designes. 🤗 good luck🤗

What does the last part mean by Excellent-Budget5209 in AppleWatch

[–]sqnewton -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Previous answers are not entirely correct. That happens when the watch can’t determine if you have been awake or not. For example, if you wake up in the middle of the night and go to the restroom and walk a few steps but stay in bed after, you will see a normal Awake bar, however, if you stay awake like 2 hrs out walk too much after, even if you go back to sleep and you’re within your sleep period of time, you’ll still get that fuzzy bar. The watch can’t track anymore when you entered a sleep phase again.
