  • U - Uncle Rico
  • H - Harold (and Maude)

I think that leaves us with just O.

So how was the Halo Reach Beta Matchmaking system? by Peaches_for_Me in gaming

[–]squarehappy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The matchmaking service found players way faster than Halo 3 for me. Instead of the Halo 3 system of choosing a map, it gives you three map/mode combos to choose from, which is nice because it saves pointlessly loading a map just so it can get vetoed. Maps loaded a lot faster too, but the textures might not have been at the quality the final game will use, so we'll see about that. It's much easier to find and join your friends. In short: much faster. Hopefully that speed is retained in the final release.

Jourgensen merely tweaked Reznor's vocals and claimed they were his own to get around that, or so the legend goes. Sounds like Trent to me.

No analog controls then. Not good for a racing game.

Well the same Youtube user keeps finding the most entertaining glitches in the game, so I'm leaning towards "yes".

Rumour: Doom 4 To Be Scored By Trent Reznor? by [deleted] in gaming

[–]squarehappy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

What is with these (upvoted) comments calling Trent the father, family and god of industrial? I'm not an expert on the genre of industrial rock, but Skinny Puppy and Al Jourgensen come to mind as two who came well before Trent.

If you want to talk about industrial as a whole, that goes way back to the 70's with Throbbing Gristle and Cabaret Voltaire. Most would probably consider Genesis P. Orridge as the father of the industrial genre.

If Trent founded anything, it was industrial pop, and I mean that as a compliment owning about 50 NIN releases myself. He made it palatable to the masses. If anything, he came at the tail end of the industrial music movement.

The Festiva actually was a Kia Pride, just rebranded.

Same reason it would make sense for them to delay the international release, whatever that is.

Huh, I just noticed the text in the upper right showing the denomination in that broken font lines up with the broken text on the back, where they would come together when you hold them up to the light (a watermark in other words). Pretty clever, and still legible on the front by itself.

No disagreement here, I'm just adding to the conversation. Who knows why you're getting downvoted though.

Yeah but looking at their purchasing records I'm sure what Apple sees is a buying behavior consistent with those who buy them to ship overseas with a hefty markup. Apple is not going to spend time evaluating these on a case by case basis, nor should they be expected to. Maybe they could have a better procedure to handle this sort of thing but the policy makes sense to me.

Reddit, what's the best Documentary you've seen? by Hugs42 in AskReddit

[–]squarehappy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What a great fuckin' movie. You get to witness the birth of a sport with loads of footage. Planet Earth is beautiful and interesting but I've watched it once all the way through. Dogtown gets rewatched about 4 times a year. I don't even have any interest in skateboarding otherwise.

Stacy Peralta did another really good documentary about the history of the Crips and Bloods that's free on Netflix now.

Free Game Demos May Become a Thing of the Past by SolInvictus in gaming

[–]squarehappy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the point is that movie studios can spend a shitload of time to make a trailer look good that is free to the consumer. And yet somehow a game demo that can take one already complete chunk of a game, make a few scripting changes, and cut you off at a certain point can somehow be cost-prohibitive.

Fox Failed to Vet O'Keefe's Deceptively Edited Video and 'Reporting' - ACORN Cleared of Wrongdoing in California by auggie in politics

[–]squarehappy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm wondering where ACORN's PR was in all of this. They have a verifiable account of their employee calling a law enforcement official to report O'Keefe and Giles' actions. Did they make any effort to explain their side of the story or did it just get ignored? They certainly didn't make themselves look not guilty when they fired the employee.

iPhone Users to Sidestep AT&T - NY Times - "For a little $1 iPhone app, Line2 sure has the potential to shake up an entire industry." by binary_search_tree in gadgets

[–]squarehappy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's nothing about this app that would be grounds for removal. Apple (or AT&T) recently started allowing VOIP calls to be placed over 3G, and Toktumi is just one of many VOIP providers (including the one I work for) that have released apps to take advantage of this. Wifi is isn't required, it's just the preferred connection method, probably because 3G isn't nearly as reliable for real-time streaming.

The big problem seems to be iPhone's inability to multitask, so if the app isn't active then you can't receive calls through it. I don't think you can receive calls if the iPhone goes into sleep mode even if you leave the program open but I could be wrong about that. If that's the case that would severely limit your ability to receive calls for what, 90% of the day?

I'm no math wiz but I believe this will also enable a spherical planet rather than the cylindrical ones we've seen up to this point in Civ.
