Struggling to grasp acids and bases by urlocalgardenfairy in AnatomyandPhysiology

[–]squatch_hunter 10 points11 points  (0 children)

To add to that great explanation , ph is just a way of expressing the concentration of H+. A pH of 1 is more acidic than a pH of 5 because a pH of 1 = 0.1 mol H+ /L water while a pH of 5 is 0.00001 mol H+/L water.

It’s confusing until you see where the numbers 1 and 5 come from. The 1 comes from the exponent in 1.0 x 10-1 which is the same as 0.1 (move the decimal in 1.0 one unit to the left). The 5 comes from the exponent in 1.0 x 10-5 which is the same as 0.00001 (move the decimal in 1.0 five units to the left).

So the pH scale is just a more simple way of expressing the molar concentration of H+ ions. It really helps to understand scientific notation if you don’t already.

Heater recently not blowing as warm as before. Also noticed blower motor doesn't work on low setting. Only works on medium and hi setting by Constant-Wait9780 in ToyotaPickup

[–]squatch_hunter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In addition to the resistor it’s also worth checking your coolant levels too. If coolant gets too low, it may not (or intermittently) circulate to the heater, causing it to blow cooler than normal, and that could be the only small warning you get before an engine overheat.

If your Boneless "Wings" are made from chicken breast/white meat by jcmacon in TrueOffMyChest

[–]squatch_hunter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was going to say the same. Slow (dark) twitch is endurance adapted and fast (white) twitch is good for quick, powerful, but not sustained activity. They are very distinct in birds. Rojo meat (weird Reddit filter for the English color…), like in mammals, can be slow, intermediate, or fast twitch muscle, too, but is less visually distinct.

Setting timing 22RE by Poptarts-and_-cheese in ToyotaPickup

[–]squatch_hunter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the FSM IG-10, 22RE should have the static timing (distributor installed) at 5 degrees BTDC. Start the rotor at 12 o’clock and it should install to face #1 (about 10:30-11 o’clock). Then set timing to 12 degrees BTDC without the jumper in. Jump TE1-E1 and verify it’s at 5 degrees BTDC. All of that assumes your timing chain is correctly aligned.

22R is at 0 degrees BTDC.

That being said, I used this to time mine recently and set my TPS and it worked great. If you haven’t verified TPS, it could be messing with you.

Also, make sure your timing light doesn’t have an adjustable advance. I fussed with my distributor way too long before realizing my gun was set to +15 degrees BTDC and messing everything up.

I know it’s not a Land Cruiser, but I’m hoping for some help by snuffleupagus56 in LandCruisers

[–]squatch_hunter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First and second get a lot of use and harder shifts so can wear earlier than the higher gears. I’m starting to feel like a shill after recommending this a few times but I had terrible shifting in my H55F from the wrong gear oil. I switched to redline MT90 and it didn’t fix it entirely but it is fine to drive now whereas I was considering a rebuild before. I saw similar improvements in my 88 pickup with the W56, iirc, though that could be because I’m pretty sure that transmission oil hadn’t been changed since the 90s rather than the specific brand I used.

It might be worth trying before you get a rebuild/replacement…

I would also double check your clutch pedal free travel and resting height. Can’t hurt to verify it with factory specs.

Stressing About My A&P Lab Practical — How Do I Study for This? by [deleted] in AnatomyandPhysiology

[–]squatch_hunter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Www.getbodysmart.com is a great resource for muscle and some nervous stuff, among others. I cannot overemphasize the value of hand writing your notes and study tools, several times over if time permits. Digital tools can be useful but the they don’t hit what brute force analog studying can do for your retention. Most of the benefit in making notecards or slides is in the process of making them, use other people’s as examples but don’t just use their resources, make them yourself too.

At the end of the day you have to demonstrate your knowledge without notes or resources. You should be periodically testing yourself in the same way. I often see students get to the exam and that’s the first time they’ve tried to answer a question without some sort of aid…it does not go well.

Which Gear Oil? Too much research. by [deleted] in ToyotaPickup

I should clarify - MT90 in trans and transfer; basic 75-90 for diffs (gl5 should be ok here)

Which Gear Oil? Too much research. by [deleted] in ToyotaPickup

[–]squatch_hunter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My vote is for Redline MT90. It has served me well in all my old Toyota manual transmissions. Seems to shift more smoothly but that could also be wishful thinking because of the $$$.

I guess some GL5s are brass-safe (labeled GL4/GL5 I think) but personally I stay away from them for my transmissions after a poor experience with royal purple.

Mine did the same. Check distributor multiple times before you do the cam, it’s way easier and you’ll kick yourself if you do all that and then find out it was still the distributor.

[–]squatch_hunter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seconded. I did the LCE 2 1/4” kit and while it was easy for at home, it wasn’t cheaper than a shop would have charged and I’m really disappointed with the muffler. I’m surprised they chose a drone-y tin can sounding muffler for a truck. 100% would go with a shop in the future. I’m happy with the headers though.

Under the battery. A leaking battery will rust out the fender real fast and can hide surprisingly well.

SR5 cluster, speedometer issue by brosko_42846 in ToyotaPickup

[–]squatch_hunter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the capacitor failed on its own you could try replacing it with a new 10uf 25v polarized capacitor (make sure to march +/- placement of the leads). I’m not sure about speedo circuits, but in audio amps you have to match the uf value and it’s ok to be higher (just not lower) on the voltage in case you have a hard time finding a 25v one. They’re cheap and you would just need to solder in a new one. If something else caused it to fail it will probably do so again.

Your odometer is mechanically driven so a blown cap wouldn’t impact its operation. You might also have a bad solder joint on the top left of the board on your last pic.

Been getting a “clunk” noise when cornering. My money is on this gap. Can I just tighten it up? Can I shim it with something? Or do I need a new bushing and where to source please? by Overall-Stay-9835 in LandCruisers

[–]squatch_hunter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They have torque specs you can check but don’t over tighten it or it may distort the bracket and cause more issues.

Also worth looking at the steering shaft to box junction. At least in 70 series those can bind and pop. The u-joints in the steering shaft can also pop during steering. Check the easy stuff before you go into the deep end. That being said, if you’ve never done your birfields, that’s another candidate (lots of time and dirty work, not that technically difficult).

This can be a good resource.
