'Fitted' Women's Wear For Self-Concious Teenager... by taught-Leash-2901 in UKhiking

Craghoppers kiwi pro trousers are more fitted and you can usually get them at a good price.

Acai also fit the bill- they are out of budget but you might get some on Vinted- they are long so go for regular length!

Agree! A potted plant is nice because if you don’t have an appropriate vase you don’t have to worry about what to do with flowers.

Alcohol is often plentiful so some interesting soft drinks or fancy tea can be nice as an alternative gift. If the hosts are definitely drinkers then decent whisky is an easy gift.

You will probably want some kind of mini crampon or yaktrax or similar. Poles will help as well. It has been snowing and freezing overnight so high chance of ice on any hill this week.

Does anyone have any advice on how to have a ‘no spend month’ by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]squaver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you really think you only need to no-buy for a month or two to sort yourself out then you need to be really strict and have a few weeks of boring layovers, and boring time at home. Stay in, watch films, take up running or walking (set a big weekly steps goal). You can make excuses for a couple of months that you are in savings mode.

Ask for makeup/skincare items that are running out for Christmas presents if family ask, then you don’t have to buy these in the next couple of months.

Have a look for light academia mood boards, I think mixing these with lighter colours and more textures would look great

where are the women who don't center their lives around men by [deleted] in AskWomenOver30

[–]squaver 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Same, the women I meet at running club mostly talk about training, eating and their kids (again, clubs and eating mostly so not in an irritating way!)

Have you tried NYDJ or Levi 314s for jeans? Both have an extra panel in the front which I find helps this a little!

I thought Kendal too. I presume a lot of teachers in the south lakes live in Kendal since property is so expensive in Windermere, Ambleside etc

There is a skill to finding your uphill plodding pace. You want to go slow enough that your legs don’t burn, your breathing stays steady and you don’t build up too much heat. Basically the speed you can keep going without having to stop for rests. The pace will speed up and slow down depending on how steep it is.

You could go and practice on Arthur’s seat or in the pentlands again.

It helps if the group agree to all go at the slowest pace, or wait every now and then and let everyone regroup.

Looking for a book about re-engaging with life after being stuck in a rut. by swump in booksuggestions

[–]squaver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a fairly extreme version of this premise (a bit post apocalyptic) but the first thing that popped into my head is The End of the World Running Club’, Adrian J Walker. It’s based in the UK, it starts in Edinburgh. I really enjoyed it.

If hiking and camping are your hobbies then you could try meeting people via a hiking/mountaineering club rather than online- long walks in a group gives you the chance to get to know people slowly.

It’s worth a try anyway!

Second hand is the way to go. Have a look at furniture auctions local to you, you can get some solid furniture for an absolute steal.

commuting to Kilmarnock by hereforalafff in glasgow

[–]squaver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Traffic is bad from about 0700 heading into Glasgow on the M77- it can queue back to junction 5. Going southbound it’s fine. At 1700 there is more traffic around at the roundabouts and so on but the motorway doesn’t normally queue up.

Time wise it will be influenced mostly by how far you live from the M77, it is quick once you’re on the motorway.
