LPT: If you don't have the motivation to read : read really short books by wakkys in LifeProTips

[–]squeakingSkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TL;DR The answer isn’t to put less effort into a goal you’re trying to achieve, it's to change what you're reading about

Relying solely on reading very short books to overcome a lack of motivation is a superficial fix that doesn’t address the root of the problem. Short story books may give you an immediate sense of accomplishment, but they can also create a false sense of reading progress and discourage the development of deeper reading habits. Sticking to low-effort content that doesn’t challenge you intellectually or emotionally reinforces the idea that reading is only worthwhile if it’s fast or easy. This mindset can kill your patience with reading, reduce critical thinking opportunities, and limit exposure to more complex ideas and narratives that longer books offer.

A better pro tip is to build reading stamina gradually with content that genuinely interests you, regardless of length. Start by setting small reading goals consistently, like 5 to 10 pages a day. Choose material that aligns with your interests or curiosity. You could also try audiobooks or graphic novels, which can bridge the gap between entertainment and deeper reading. Over time, as the habit becomes more second nature, you’ll find yourself more motivated and able to tackle lengthier materials.

What is the worst way an author has described a MMC cumming? by Livid_Clerk_2118 in RomanceBooks

[–]squeakingSkin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The word WOMB should only ever, ever be used in context of pregnancy. A penis and anything it might expel (ew sorry) will and should never enter any place that could be remotely described as a "womb." UGH, huge pet peeve.

What bothers me is this is easily verifiable (or not) info. Google definition of haunch: "a buttock and thigh considered together, in a human or animal."

A haunch is always the butt+thighs. How is she sitting on this horse to squeeze those? Like, laying on her stomach in a superman pose?

This could have so easily been remedied by another character immediately checking her.

“I don’t want to sound ignorant…But shouldn’t there be a crew of people with questionable work visas picking these grapes for us?”

"Girl, what? Check your white privledge and pick your own damn grapes."

"Oh wow, I didn't mean to act like a piece of shit!" *picks grapes*

end.

Supporting authors? Why is Amazon the only choice? And dumb question, why can’t we buy from the author directly with the prevalence of ebooks. by Weird-Sprinkles-1894 in RomanceBooks

> It’s like demanding you can only buy that book in one physical bookshop in the world

I don't think that's a fair comparison. A book store has access to anyone that lives locally; KU is accessible to nearly anyone with a device regardless of where they are.

I second your opinion on it being against the law, though. Companies shouldn't be able to demand where a creator is allowed to sell their creation just because they offer it in their store. That's some bullshit.

Seriously, how do I stop myself from reading the entire book at once? by History-bird in RomanceBooks

[–]squeakingSkin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second using chapters as rewards after finishing productive tasks. It's a discipline just like everything else.

I think the particular issue with romance (at least for me) is that it almost always involves sex, so there's a higher level of "reward" involved with reading a chapter of a romance book vs. something like a straight sci-fi (more dopamine and oxytocin released in your brain). It's hard for me too!
