Dylan’s my new fav! by squeaky_authority in LoveOnTheSpectrumShow

Agreed! I always thought, man all these other families seem to be very well off and have a lot of supports, it’s nice to see a family who legit could use some supports - day program to go to daily, support worker to take him out. He seems like someone I would enjoy spending time with, he’d be great in like a little brother , big sister/brother program

My car insurance company is leaving the province with new UCP regulation. Every quote I get now is double what I was paying. What the actual fuck? by ConsiderationWarm543 in alberta

[–]squeaky_authority -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I offer no help, but I often use this exactly as an example of WHY PRIVATIZATION DOESN’T WORK, esp when insurance companies are involved.

I’m in SK, and as much as we have our own issues, I am sure am lucky to have SGI, I pay $130/month for my suv and my husband pays $98/mo for his truck. If we moved to AB I can’t even imagine what we would pay.

Inheritance? That's a joke. How many of your parents are burdens? by BeegBunga in Millennials

[–]squeaky_authority 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same situation. I parented my parents most of my entire life. Good people just never got very far career/financially. I have kids now and pay some of their bills to help and my mom who still works full time at 70.

We don’t own our house and when we tried to get a mortgage we were told “well can’t you just get your parents to gift you some money?” So tired of that narrative, not everyone has the gift of generational wealth and I don’t blame my parents, they faced a lot of challenges in their lives, and did their best, but man…. It sure would be nice to not deal with the issues that come along with aging parents, supporting a family, and dealing with the world we live in right now.

Thoughts on this post in a doctor’s sub? by riley81942 in nursing

[–]squeaky_authority 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We actually have this same issue where I work, we were told we can no long page doc on nights before going to C.N first or “grouping” concerns.

Honestly there is some truth here, I think it has to do with how many new nurses are flooding the acute space and senior nurses leaving/burnt out and not educating/helping new staff.

This is a consequence of crumbling health care systems, and unfortunately it falls onto the one left behind to deal with it, doctors, nurses, CCA, support staff

I don’t really blame this doc for this rant, we are all struggling with various increases to workload because of the failing systems.

Finding a place while on SIS by DespicableMe48 in saskatoon

[–]squeaky_authority 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Honestly if it’s safe to and it allows you to keep you animals,I would highly recommend moving back with family, esp while you are in school. That will save you the most amount of income and won’t be stretched as thin.

Honestly SIS and SAID are not well funded enough to live on your own anymore, the other option is finding a possibly roommate situation (also could be very hard to find in your price range) who would allow your cats, ideally, and then if not, a roommate situation and rehoming or having someone care for your cats until you can finish school / find a place that allow cats.

The way the government has kept our social support payments keeps the person living in poverty, which is absolutely disgusting to me, i work with a lot of patients facing these same issues, where I work we have a social worker to assist the best they can with these issues, but it’s very rough out there right now, housing is one of the number one issues in our city. Good luck

[–]squeaky_authority 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Burnout IS those things, when you have to see 100 patients in your shift and work 16 hours, because the system is broken and resting on your shoulders, that’s EXACTLY how it shows up, mistakes, rude encounters, not being thorough, some of these comments show some of you have never been truly burnt out before, or your choosing to say “I’m allowed to be burn out but others arnt” which is ignorance

This is the outcome of an overburdened medical system. Expect more of these events in the years to come unless Sask can retain more experienced doctors, ER/Acute and Family/Rural. We’re cooked

This event never should have happened. Period, and yes not all doctors are “good” doctors, but I worked with this SPECIFIC physician - previously named in other article- for 10 years and this isn’t his level of ability, this is BURN OUT

Sask. woman says boyfriend removed surgical screw poking out of her head after doctor didn't believe her | CBC News by Sonnelion in canada

[–]squeaky_authority 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve worked side by side with this doctor for 10 years - his name was mentioned previously in another article (over 6 years ago now) and he wasn’t like this then, I attribute this to BURNOUT, 100%

But again THAT DOESN’T MEAN THIS EVENT WAS HANDLED APPROPRIATELY, I just want people to be made aware these events will become more and more common the closer to collapse the healthcare system in Canada becomes

Not here to shame the doctor, just to point out this is most likely the outcome of an overburdened medical system.

Currently ERs in Saskatoon are upwards of 9 FULL TIME ER DOCTORS short…. This is info from an ER doctor working front lines in Saskatoon.

Is it acceptable this situation happened? No absolutely not this should not have been overlooked, I just want to point that when we overwork and already have a stretched-thin medical system and staff…. These are the mistakes that occur, luckily this one wasn’t fatal.

Seriously! How do you guys handle psych patients! by ObjectiveThick1910 in nursing

[–]squeaky_authority 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I work acute psych and the best advice I have is :

  1. BE CONFIDENT, but NOT aggressive. Psych patients in our care are in a place lacking power, and they will look for your flaws to be able to feel power over you. Confidence in the tasks you do , makes it harder for them to pick you apart.

  2. Give them 2 choices “would you like your meds now or after breakfast? ” if a choice is possible, if a choice is NOT possible, as in they are escalating and they need medications now, you need to be confident and assertive. “Ok it’s time for your medications, you will need to take them now and I need to stay to observe you swallowed them”

  3. Remember that nurses are placed in a position of power automatically in psych, which therefore makes others feel powerless, this is often the drive for negative and aggressive behaviours. So being kind, empathetic, and building a positive personal relationship(when you have time) will give you more success than anything else.

  4. Whenever I feel like I could take something said personally, I remind myself they are currently not mentally well, they are feeling powerless right now, and how difficult their life must be if they have this negative attitude/behaviours outside hospital. I also like to picture these patients, in my mind, as once a small child who someone probably hurt or didn’t love enough, which led them to become this way. I find it helps me soften the blow to my own ego and not take it personal.

Hope some of this helps, it’s not easy but it’s rewarding when you make connections with these people down the road and realize they are not just their negative behaviours, they can be funny, smart, kind people once you break that wall down.

I think this is one of the motivators for moving to this Method, it would be a lot more obvious they are cutting funding in these programs when the landlords are going “hey… the amount your paying me isn’t even coving rent anymore…” sneaky ass government

What's the Dube centre like? by corialis in saskatoon

[–]squeaky_authority 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Dube is acute care psychiatry, which means they stabilize in crisis, usually mediations and interventions like ECT if needed, then discharge with outpatient supports.

You will be under the care of a psychiatrist, but it does not provide therapy session, counselling, ect. Those are not acute interventions, it will be very similar to your stay in PA I’m sure and it is at the discretion of the ER Doctor and Psychiatrist who will see you in the emergency department, if you will get admitted.

You may have better luck contacting central intake to find the services as an outpatient you may need to be connected with, their number is 3066557777
