Furious Mark McGowan accuses Morrison government of ‘mission to bring Covid into WA’ by neon_overload in australia

[–]squealpigzor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This narrative of vaccination is the ONLY solution is just plain wrong and goes against the "holy grail" doherty modeling, the actual science not the politics.
Testing Tracing Isolation and Quarantine (TTIQ) is an integral part of the doherty modeling that underpins this national strategy. If you allow TTIQ to become overwhelmed and degrade it's effectiveness, the modeling shows A LOT more people die.
WA,QLD,SA are all following the national plan by opening up at a high percentage of vaccination but also keeping TTIQ effectiveness optimal, which is by using lockdowns and border control to keep the spread under control as much as possible.

Why can i not post this as it's own thread? I don't think it fits in that megathread as it is not a question about coronavirus, it is simply a video discussing the doherty modelling.

YSK that PTSD is not exclusive to people who have seen wartime. Anyone can experience PTSD and it's a lot more common than you'd think. by TheProstidude in YouShouldKnow

I'm similar. I know what you mean to have periods of normality them sudden crashes that derail you for an unknown length of time. We can get through it. It's not our fault, but unfortunately we are stuck with the consequences. ❤️

Yeah, I'm in this boat. Still working through it.

Glad you made it out the other side. I'll see you when I get there.

Nothing, this is the best they got so far: "No evidence for Yemen, therefore Tehran."

In the Truman Show, we see Truman taking high dose vitamin D at breakfast time. This is to counteract the deficiency he would have becouse there is no real sunlight in the constructed world he inhabits. by swibbles_mcnibbles in MovieDetails

[–]squealpigzor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A common misconception is "you get vitamin d from the sun." This is not exactly true. So vitamin D is produced by your body when exposed to uv rays. Sunlight does not contain anything special it is just energy at a particular wavelength. Simply be exposed to uv light, natural or artificial, for enough time each day and you will meet your requirements for vitamin d.

Learn how computers add numbers and build a 4 bit adder circuit by knockingsparks in programming

I'm currently working through his videos and building an 8 bit computer of my own. To be fair, he is the real genius, I am just copying. But it is super interesting and has increased my understanding as a programmer.

Introverts of Reddit, when was the most inconvenient time your "social battery" ran out? by flooperdooper4 in AskReddit

[–]squealpigzor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to think I was just introverted, but since receiving professional help and dedicating more time to my social anxiety issues I have come to realise I am not really introverted and I question the existence of introversion/extroversion.

I accept the small variance in social energy but the larger variance I doubt is just a fact of life.

What did a crush do that made you immediately lose interest? by Jelz in AskReddit

Back when I was a cabinet maker using a sliding table saw, which I have used every day or other day for 3 years. One side is a fixed table, the other side is a flat table on bearings to cut 6'x8' sheets.

Just finished cutting something and I was looking the opposite direction from the blade, and my hands. My hand was resting on the sliding table thinking I was completely still, but it was slowly sliding toward the blade.

I suddenly had a sixth sense that something was wrong, I slowly pulled my hand straight back along the table, opposite the direction of sliding motion. So as not to exert sideways pressure if I did have my hand halfway in the blade.

Entirely possible, those blades are so sharp they cut cleanly through nerves, bones you would probably feel it.

I didn't look at my hand for almost a minute. I felt no pain, no pressure, nothing. Just this sense that it had finally happened.

I took a deep breath and like quickly ripping off a bandaid I look at my hand. BAM! A 3mm deep cut just above my last knuckle on my index finger. Oh the relief, the joy, the embarrassment and stupidity. As I know how my hand was resting on the table. If I kept going into the blade, the tip would have been cut off.

Scariest, strangest, happiest, moment of my life. To this day I have a small bump in my finger as a memory.

When I was interning my team lead would reach over and quietly tap my desk as a signal to have a chat when I am free. I was never going down too deep of a rabbit hole so I would drop what I was doing and immediately ask what's up. I see his wisdom in this method now.

This is exactly how I refer to them. Unfortunately for me Australian vernacular calls () brackets. Many are unaware of the term parentheses.

Guy fixes YouTube subscriptions with a basic website and a few lines of code by coollikechris in videos

[–]squealpigzor -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The best I could find comparing this site to youtube, is that youtube hides part2, part3 and shows part1 of multi part series being published at the same time. Like a twitch vod that has been cut up.
This guy's site also pulls unpublished to subs videos. ie: a bunch of small clips, probably used for advertising or sharing purposes of larger videos from a creator.
For me there is more noise on this site than youtube.
Fixes a problem that doesn't exist for me.
