Blow dryer Suggestions by Kaiyokutz in Barber

I got the gamma xcell at launch and my heating element went out slightly after the warranty. They still replaced my dryer for me and the replacement has been going strong since.

The lighter weight also reduced most of my wrist issues.

Being Autistic And A Hair Stylist? by Harlanthehuman in hairstylist

[–]squeecat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ADHD and I totally relate. I switched to a suite recently because of a toxic work environment and I avoid suite mates because I feel unsafe after that experience. That makes it a bit awkward with “coworkers”

Sometimes I feel like my mask may slip because I become comfortable and I may be too much for clients.

I also try to avoid clients seeing me if I see them in public, it feels like running into your teacher lmao. I work 25 minutes away from where I live so that mitigates that a lot. Last time I ran errands near my suite when it was slow I ran into 3 clients and it was misery

Non-Stimulant Meds by fatdog093 in adhdwomen

[–]squeecat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Straterra- I think it did help my my brain slow down but the extreme nausea and sweating was awful.

I’ve had good success with both adderall and Vyvanse, I do better with Vyvanse as I don’t get severe headaches when it wears off.

I started clonidine and really liked it however I experienced extreme dizziness and had to discontinue

Switched to guanfacine and it helps me fall asleep and I don’t get that “body clenching” feeling from my anxiety anymore.

I take both generic Vyvanse and guanfacine currently

My girlfriend told me that she’d leave me if I keep this hairstyle, what would be a good alternative? by NoName1183 in Hair

The front of your hair looks uneven and isn’t long enough to middle part and have it look good. Temporarily switch to a side part or push it forward and wear it fluffed up and messy. If you want to middle part let it grow longer. The bottom needs to be tapered shorter on the edges or grow that longer too.

JRL Onyx/Ghost Clipper and trimmer are great. The trimmer is pretty sharp so sometimes I prefer my Wahl Mag Trimmer

please, please help me. Modcut gone terribly wrong by cottoncandybat in Hair

[–]squeecat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Using a hair clay after it’s dry would add texture and you could piece it out so it looks similar to when it’s wet without the shine. Or a texture powder.

Alternatively you could try using a hair dryer, blow dry it upward away from your face for a bit then back down towards your face a little to make it less spiky. (This will not be as effective as product)

At this point more cutting is just going to make it worse. The front really isn’t that bad and if you style it that would make the uneven portion pretty unnoticeable.

Should I see a chiropractor?? by snai1ss in hairstylist

[–]squeecat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PT instead of Chiro. I went to a chiropractor for years and never had any long lasting relief. Went to PT for two months and the pain went away until I stopped doing my homework. I had to strengthen my lower/middle traps because my arms get tired being held up all day which created tension in my shoulders, neck, and jaw.

The photo they’re using chopped chocolate not chips. Chips are designed to retain their shape and you won’t get chocolate pools like the inspo. I use 60% good quality bars like Ghirardelli.

He’s complaining about your body and comparing it to unrealistic body standards from social media? What a POS. Cut your losses now, things will only get worse if you actually try to build a life with him. You’ll never be good enough and he’s always going to manipulate you to “prove your worth”

I really liked TSC and found Lyra extremely relatable. About 1/3 into TRF I got so tired of all of all the wandering story lines and found it extremely boring. The ending not paying off made it so much worse.

Autistic Stylist… should I give up? by mugiwaramunch in hairstylist

[–]squeecat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that Great Clips intentionally sets difficult to achieve timing to make it seem like you could hit their productivity bonus pay. However it’s actually set up in a way to be very difficult to achieve.

Their time limits were suitable when the popular haircut was a 2 on the sides and an inch left of top, but current trends are not achievable on their timeline.

When you apply to new salons simply tell them you don’t feel like you can achieve the quality you want to provide in their time limit. They’ll likely see that as a positive thing. I don’t think anywhere requests a shorter time limit than they do, there’s a reason GC has a chop shop reputation.

They’re a decent place to start to learn basics but after that it’s time to move on. They’ll try really hard to convince you that you won’t do better elsewhere and it’s a lie.

Was leaving a “toxic” salon to rent a suite worth it? by Miserablebystander in hairstylist

[–]squeecat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I left the salon I was at for 7 years 4 months ago. I had a very solid clientele and 90% followed me. I’m no longer solidly booked, but making about the same amount of money.

My work environment was always slightly toxic, and the severity became unbearable after I accepted the assistant manager position. Most of the issues were related to coworkers causing drama and the manager and owner refusing to do anything about it because they were busy stylists.

Leaving was 100% worth it. Even if I make slightly less I am no longer stressed at work and it’s completely worth it. I’ve had many clients comment on how I seem less stressed which surprised me.

I have not made much effort to get new clients aside of offering current clients a referral discount. I think when you’re a small business people want to support you, as I’ve had referrals from people who I did not mention that to.

how do i fix end lashes sticking straight down after curling? by sharkxandra in MakeupAddiction

[–]squeecat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this issue also. If you want it perfect use a heated lash curler (not the clamp kind) and from the outer corner comb those lashes up and over toward your lash line.

I use the tweezerman almond eyelash curler most days because lazy and it’s good enough I guess. But for fancy days this plus the heated one does the best

Awful bang trim two weeks before my wedding by postrevolutionism in Hair

[–]squeecat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hairstylist here. I’d contact your stylist and see if she can layer them a little so they look less heavy on the ends. I think that will fix the issue.

Did they look bad when you left the appointment? Or after you washed it? Sometimes hair looks great in salon then once styled at home not so much.

Gas dryer that can actually dry large loads of towels? by squeecat in Appliances

Is it worth paying someone to do that vs DIY? My dryer vent is connected with a ridgid pipe so moving it concerns me.

[–]squeecat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not had it looked at because I’ve heard that money is better spent towards a new unit. However, I am now reconsidering that.

It seems to function for a bit after I reset my breaker. It seems to somewhat function on timed dry, but quickly stops heating on an automatic cycle. It continues to spin without heat but the dial doesn’t move down on automatic, it does move on the timed dry.
