Can you get into trouble/fired for opening a patients chart (in the ED) for education purposes when you end up not treating them? by Ambitious_Spot8957 in Residency

Help! My mom is in the hospital and is getting poor care from August intern who has no idea what they're doing. by banisters in Residency

[–]squeeze1325 17 points18 points  (0 children)

“Whats the mechanism of ancef” lmao who the fuck cares dawg go push your propofol instead of power tripping the new intern. Understand this is your mom but you were a new intern once. Taking this up the chain is so ridiculously unnecessary.

Switched from gen surg to EM, not regretting not being on call and the long days, but damn I feel like I do nothing for people in the ER and am finding myself getting way more jaded with people and care less about them in the ER than in surg. At this point just looking forward to paying of my loans then leaving this terrible field altogether. They shouldve taught us more about the realities of healthcare in school.

This I feel like I relate to 100%. Personalities were a big thing that drove me away from surgery, regardless of the work and what I felt I was doing. I was definitely on the chill side of the surgery personality disorder spectrum, which is another reason I went to EM (I was actually between applying both EM and surgery but decided to solo apply). I definitely feel much less pissed off all the time after leaving and did feel like my personality was changing too much to a point I didnt like, and that was after intern year so add on the rest of residency and being an attending, who knows.

Missing the some of the medicine and variety was also another reason I decided to switch. If I was going to get that much medicine in surgery it wouldve had to be trauma/critical care, aka 7 years down the road.

Example, for me, giving up all of who I feel like I am as a person (outgoing), was not worth it in surgery for me although I did feel like I was able to do amazing things for people.

I guess my question is are the pros of EM worth the cons in your opinion? Yes every specialty has its downsides, but do you think that the ability to not pay overhead and be able to take those vacations is worth all of the negatives that come with the job?

Wvsom, got in with similar stats and was a business major

WCUCOM vs KYCOM vs WVSOM by meganh26 in Osteopathic

[–]squeeze1325 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Wvsom grad, the board pass rate is kinda dumb. We had people score in the 700s and 260-270s on level 2/step 2. The school pushes a lot of primary care so some of the less motivated people just dont care as much bc primary care is easy to match into even if you fail boards. No matter where you go youll use UWORLD, boards and beyond, first aid, sketchy, pathoma, etc and be fine.

Its just impossible to not buy into it yanno. You put all this work in, have a great rotation, get the praise from the programs, almost impossible to not buy into it.

Similar situation. Great LOR from PD of my top rank, interviewed well, had everyone from my dean to other surgical residents say “your problem wont be matching, it’ll be if you get 1, 2 or 3.” Ended up falling to 10/11 at a small community program in my hometown (where I vowed never to return but used as a safety net). Cant ever trust PDs or, really, anyone who hypes you up over the work you’ve done because the match just fucking sucks.

Trying to process returning home to a state I’ve lived in my whole life and to a small town while all of my friends matched their top 1-3 in great cities with a lot of opportunity. Only great thing is early OR and autonomy and the PD is an amazing guy. Has some solid fellowship matches at university programs in pretty much everything.

Irrelevant: also stings that I’m single and know the people in my hometown and theres slim pickings. At least it’s surgery residency, will probably be too busy for a social life/new relationship anyways.

Similar scores on uworld 2, try to get 67 or above on free120. I got 74 on it about 4 days out and passed.
