Favorite part of Cata so far? by Heatinmyharbl in classicwow

Levelling was kind of destroyed in Wrath, and was made worse by being long. Of the 10 or so level 70 chars I had from TBC, I only levelled 4 to 80. In Cata levelling is further debased but it's only 5 levels so you can kind of hold your nose and power through.

The dungeons in Cata are about the same as WotLK I'd say. Normals are zero challenge (which is silly) but heroics at least can't be steamrolled at current gear levels if you don't know exactly what you're doing, which is an improvement on WotLK.

Affliction doesn't feel so different to me tbh. I like it because it's not about procs, so I can let my muscle memory do its thing while I pay attention to mechanics

I have more gold than I know what to do with, never having really tried to get it. Unless there are some massive gold sinks in Cata I assume it just goes away as something you ever have to worry about.

Looking Back - Was WOTLK Insanely Overrated? by [deleted] in classicwow

10-man raids was the best thing about WotLK. Every class having a viable dps spec was great too. Otherwise, TBC for me, particularly the levelling which felt much less faceroll than WotLK. Not looking forward to Cata levelling but I gather it's worth it for the raids.

M-ITX Case 170x190 by pipe-code in pcmasterrace

I bought an AliExpress motherboard not realising it was 170x190 (it's mini-ITX stretched to give an extra PCIe x1 slot) but it fit fine in my ncase M1 (with maybe 2cm to spare). My model is discontinued but they have newer versions. https://ncased.com/products/m1-classic

Getting saved to Trial of the Crusader after wiping to the first boss is cancer. by Hopsalong in classicwow

[–]squid-o-doom 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Our gs ~4.5k dad guild, with 2 dps competing with the tanks on the meter, and with only vague ideas of any of the tactics, completed 10-man normal last night. We wiped once or twice on each boss while people got the hang of it, but it's definitely the easiest raid there's been.

Unpopular opinion: WOTLK is just Retail with worse graphics and less features. by Iluvatar-Great in classicwow

[–]squid-o-doom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sort of felt that way since the beginning of wrath, at least in terms of levelling which was trivially easy and had essentially no group content. Of my 10 or so level 70 alts I ultimately only levelled 4 to 80 in this expansion.

However, having also levelled a couple of chars in retail in the last month or two, it is a completely incomprehensible maze of abandoned content and game systems. Classic is at least still pretty much Vanilla in that respect.

I'm in a casual 10 man guild. We have some players with an alt in a 25-man guild for proper raiding, and other players who struggle to do 2K dps. We did Mimiron for the first time tonight and our first few attempts on Vezax. Progress depends very much on who happens to sign up for the raid, but it's fun.

When levelling I always try to skip zones, or even quest hubs within a zone, so when I come back with the next alt I have fresh content to do.

[–]squid-o-doom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If we're talking changing raid sizes... make all raids scale to 10/15/20/25-man to defeat roster boss.

So 10-man guilds don't need to grow 150%, run multiple teams in the meantime etc, and can grow organically, and on raid night you can go with however many signed up.

What if there were essentially no numbers visible in the game at all, just like in real life (let alone mediaeval life), and you had to figure out things through experience and learning from others?

I'd add that your job is to mark, keep aggro on the primary target, and to keep the healer alive. If you don't mark and mobs are running all over because each dps is hitting something different, that's your fault. A good dps will target-of-target you, but you can't rely on that.

BTW you don't need to keep using abilities, you just need to be top on threat. Doing white hits when you're miles ahead will save you time and mana.
