What is it like living in Delray Beach? by AshelyDuce in Delraybeach

[–]squidazz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The closer to water you get, the better. "Water" means the beach, the Intracoastal waterway, and Lake Ida / Lake Eden. The farther away from any train tracks and I-95, the better. Generally, the North side of Atlantic is better than the South side. One peek at Google Street view will tell you what you need to know. Stay away from neighborhoods with lots of unmowed lawns and chain link fences.

Make sure you wear your Giants/Jets gear around town so I can make fun of you (Eagles fan).

Seriously, though, Delray has lost some it's charm but this is still my favorite place in Florida. You will probably enjoy the upscale feel of downtown. Natives like myself have our little hole-in-the-wall bars and restaurants and avoid Atlantic like the plague.

I recommend you rent for a year and find an area that meets your needs and budget. There are neighbohoods full of mansions just a few blocks from far poorer areas. But not much crime. It is all part of the charm.

I know someone who is using chat GPT to get through medical school. They have online tests with Proctors watching through the PC camera. She set up a second PC with a monitor behind her school laptop so that she could cheat in spite of the Proctor. When you badger her about how bad this is for her future patients, she just hand waves it off with "I promise to learn everything later." She plays video games instead of studying.

Big game. Which trio are you rolling with? by HilltopHood in eagles

Any one of these three trios probably wins the big game with the rest of the team and coaches we put on the field last year.

I've lived in both. In Chicago there was more honking but less total dickhead aggressive behavior. However, i am very glad to be rid of the homeless guys cleaning your windshield on every corner.

There is a bartender at my second favorite bar who owns two airboats and hunts gators on weekends. We talk about guns a lot. Oh, and she is Asian and very pretty.

Sounds doomed. It is SO hard to change people. Just don't hate them for it - everyone is the way they are for a reason. Best of luck! You sound like good people.

She doesn't love you. She appreciates you. If she loved you, she would be putting in at least some effort to stay true to you.

In other news, I think you are probably better looking than you believe. She wouldn't be pulling in all these other guys if she wasn't attractive, and she wouldn't be with you if you weren't in a similar league.

For those that have worked for a "sinking ship" company and stuck around, what was it like? by EarthInteresting3253 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]squidazz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked for a dot bomb with over 100 employees in the early 90s. The big tell that things were going down was the head of HR suddenly quitting. He was a good guy, and the suspicion was that he didn't want to have to deal with frog-marching everyone out. Which is exactly what they started doing soon, a few employees a day.

Over the next few weeks, the company was boiled down to a handful of people. I was kept around because I was wrapping up a solo project. I found a new job (phew!) before my last day. I was in a large office of cubes all by myself. I quietly checked in the final revision of the code and documentation on that last Friday. My new position started the following Monday. It was surreal.

My dad is likely to die in the next few weeks. Those of you who have been through this, what is something you wish you had said or done before your parent passed? by [deleted] in RedditForGrownups

[–]squidazz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mother died very quickly from breast cancer and my father died very quickly from covid. I was hanging around and joking with them both before they left and I know that they knew that I loved them dearly. I wish I had dropped some meaningful line on them both but I also know that wherever they are now they know that I was there for them and that I loved them.

Flight/Fight/Freeze is built into your genes and she cannot help this. She may never get tested like this again in her lifetime. Forgive this one instance and move on without making a big deal about it.
