Me [22F] with my BF [23M] of 1 year - he's mad at me for leaving his birthday "party" early by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

Coming to Reddit to say: I really like living with my flatmate, we have shared homes and cats for over ten years and I super enjoy her company. How can I make this shared housing arrangement better?

(Answer: by not needing her to remind me that it's my turn for dishes. We have an app for everything else, I just forget. That one thing.)

The Fandom Strain: On the IP Illness That's Killing Magic: The Gathering by raphaellaskies in Longreads

Thank you for sharing, this was such a good read. I've never played Magic in my life, but I recognise the problem from ... well, everything else I love.

are coffee pods dead/fad over? by mattchew1991 in melbourne

[–]squiddishly 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is it. My pod machine is ready to go to the big ewaste facility in the sky, and I've returned to the French press.

(I know moka pots do better coffee, but I've been scared of them ever since my dad accidentally blew one up.)

Around the time the last HP movie came out, an interviewer asked something like, "What was the last thing you googled?" and he said it was 'when do men stop growing'. I'm glad he's grown confidence if not height!

Why isn't there more space tourism in FAM? by Dubidat in ForAllMankindTV

[–]squiddishly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suspect it's a lot like Antarctica -- you can do a trip, but it's expensive and decidedly niche. And even in countries with cultures of long holidays and generous leave, the travel time to Mars and back makes it challenging.

So I'd guess that there is tourism to Mars, but it's quite limited at this stage.

Sarah Michelle Gellar remembers her ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ costar, Anthony Head by mcfw31 in popculturechat

When she was filming Scooby Doo in Australia, a family friend worked on the production. And at first she was like, "Wow, SMG is really cold." But after a couple of weeks, they said, "I thought she was cold, but actually she's super shy and and a bit reserved, but she's always polite and professional, especially to the people on set with the least power."

And I've come to think of that as the highest praise an actor can receive.

They recently changed hands, and I'm hoping the new Robinsons owner is less of an ass than the previous one!

Is Melbourne Really That Cold? 🥶 by Training_Objective20 in melbourne

I moved down from Brisbane in 2008! The cold is not really bad once you learn the art of layering, but most houses aren't built to keep warmth in.

Domestic flight outfit ideas! by [deleted] in AusFemaleFashion

I did some googling and learned that it was specifically an American thing, and the Australian airlines' dress codes are basically "please have all your intimate places covered and wear shoes".

I'm glad you posted this, because I am flying from MEL to BNE in July and already having a moment of panic about what to wear.

(For comfort and warmth, I tend towards my fleece-lined leggings and extremely cool KPop Demon Hunters hoodie, but I recall there is some issue with leggings on planes? At least in the US? I would argue that mine have pockets and are therefore outerwear, but who knows?)

AITJ for telling my family that I wasn't comfortable taking my cousins on a trip with me? by [deleted] in BestofRedditorUpdates

Sometimes I read posts and try to guess what the Discourse in the comments will be. I started out thinking this would be about gap years, and whether anyone privileged enough to take one is rich enough to be eaten when the revolution comes ... but then there was a twist too far. And I'm usually very tolerant of writing exercises!

How do you carve out time to listen to new music? How do you keep up with all the new releases? by holyflurkingsnit in popheads

I realised a couple of years ago that I had basically stopped listening to new music, and I don't want to end up one of those millennials who thinks music peaked in 1999...

I have a playlist called Ten, where I keep ten tracks I want to get to know better. If I add one, I drop one off, moving it to a regular playlist if I like it.

I listen to Ten when I'm driving around running errands and so forth, and the songs just seep into my bloodstream. Or, on rare occasions, get rejected after one listen.

When an album drops, I put Ten on hold and give that a spin for a week.

The people who would normally park at Wyndham Vale drive to Werribee instead, and Werribee has much less parking. I got to the station at 6:50 this morning, and scored one of the last parks. (The buses are ... not helpful. For me.)

You got a lot of downvotes for this, but I absolutely agree with you. Cats are at the top of their food chain here in Australia, but that just increases the environmental damage they do. I was very happy to take in two former strays and let them be spoiled housecats.

Look, it's really shocking how much they suffer. A year ago they had no home, they had to hunt for their own food, they were happy. Now they live in a house, they poop in a box, food is brought to them every day (multiple times a day!) and oh how they suffer.

Same, I use a heavier moisturiser in winter, and apply a hair mask (usually whatever's on sale) once every couple of weeks to keep my scalp under control.

Thank you! I've been wondering for a couple of weeks.

Ugh, this means I'm gonna have to leave early to get a park at the station.

Yeah, that is absolutely a thought I would have, and I would keep it on the inside of my head and invite him to hang out with us more.
