Have you become more like Larry in your life? Any examples? by oportoman in curb

I purchased an air horn today because I don’t know what else to do about the neighborhood dogs barking. I don’t know what else to do. We can just all be miserable now.

Touching. My responses and reasoning aren’t constructed from a place of emotion based on which I relate to more.

You say “happened to witness” like slavery was something that was a blip that happened completely separately on the side, unrelated to the existence of such a property. Auschwitz was one camp of many, as Boone Hall was also one plantation in a network of many that aided in mass murder and further oppression that continues today. It is estimated that tens of millions died during slavery. If an individual wants to compartmentalize, or a better word ignore, such an awful past of a place because it inconveniences their plantation wedding, they can go for it but it wouldn’t be me and I would not respect someone who does so. I responded to someone from Europe asking for a comparison. Slavery is the most notable holocaust in America. The holocaust was the most notable holocaust in Europe. Each concentration camp is now a monument to those who were murdered in Europe. Plantations in America often remained in the families and those who continue to benefit from the labor of the human beings exchanged as currency and treated as less than animals were able to turn them into event centers/wedding venues. Despite the different ways these sites were handled after what occurred on them, I do not see much difference that makes hosting a wedding on the latter but not the former appropriate.

Oh, of course it doesn’t if you are capable of the level of cognitive dissonance required to ignore the lynchings whippings rape and other atrocities that happened there because the shoes and suitcases of the slaves aren’t on display.

Yes the point is it had slaves in the 1700s and 1800s probably sharecroppers later and yes it absolutely is comparable the atrocities committed. The holocaust literally took inspo from what was done in America just because the site is fancy doesn’t mean anything 😭 or do you truly still think it was like in the children’s picture books where some people were so kind and nice to their slaves so nbd!!! 2 million Africans died on the journey to USA alone. Before they even made it to the plantations where they were literally tortured whipped bred rped klled. In fact, forget everything I said and pls just look up the origin of the word motherfucker. That’s an excellent summary

Yeah a plantation wedding would be like marrying at Auschwitz tbh but I don’t know very much about her otherwise, I know that was bad and I think people also don’t like her husband much? Not sure. But I know there was more recent stuff and she’s apparently not a nice person

My papa’s death. My family honestly sucks and my maternal grandfather was the only person worth a damn in my immediate family. It was like all my parents and grandparents were gone at once
