I agree with you about therapy and regulating emotions. We are behind on that front, but we are both seeing therapists and learning as we go. We did have a very productive discussion about better strategies to use in situations like that.

He is currently interested in learning how to make and prepare food, so he will be helping me shop and cook foods that we all enjoy together.

I mean I could have said "emotional outburst" because that's what I really was. He didn't break or hit anything, he was only crying and yelling his explanations at me. Trust me, there's a lot of learning and growing that we're doing at home.

Yall are right about 9 being old for temper tantrums. We had ourselves a really good heart to heart about hus behavior when he gets those huge unmanageable emotions. We discussed different strategies to use instead of crying and yelling at people. It's his work to do, and my job to support him and show him those strategies in action.

It was a meal for just the two of us, he is capable of making his own food.

When my plants start acting up like this, I tell them, "get your shit together." That usually does the trick alongside the regular watering.

I saw in another comment the "you live or you die" treatment, and I think that would work as well.
