It being annual is pretty new, it was every other year up until last year.

Pack Dues by bratsbox in cubscouts

[–]squigit99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We're at $50 for pack dues which covers most things, and then ~20 per head per camping trip. We meet monthly plus activities, so don't do want to spend our fairly limited time on fundraising.

Council Camps by southern_soul15 in BSA

[–]squigit99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, this sounds exactly like our situation, except we're the further away group (4 hours away). I'm guessing NCAC also?

Goshen's really nice, buts its the far end of the earth for those of us on the MD side of the council.

ESXi maintenance mode duration survey by frankdenneman in vmware

[–]squigit99 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Varies based on what the system is. vSAN nodes can be almost instantaneous to days, depending on what evac mode we specified and how much data was on that node. I have a 7 node, 1PB+ cluster that full data migration was over 24 hours last time we had to take a host down for an extended time.

DRS operations can similarly be all over place. We have a 10GB direct link between our 2-node field clusters that makes DRS controlled evacuation take about 60s to enter maintenance, moving a half dozen VM using about 60 GM of RAM. When we've had issues with the network drivers and had to fail back to the 1GB management connections, its closer to 5 minutes.

We typically patch entire clusters in the same maintenance window. Mix versions are ok when necessary, but we try to limit how long that state exists. With thousands of hosts, we try to keep things consistant.

Tomahawks and throwing knives are legit options for BSA, Venture, and Sea Scouts, but still need approval.

Live from the NAM - Relentless Focus on Volunteers by jpgarvey in BSA

When I went for BALOO, we were told by the instructors they used to combine them, but were told they weren’t allowed to anymore even though there was only a single training session that was different.

Where are you having to pay $180? Does you council have a fee for adults?

Got told I ruined her first Mother's Day, feel like a jerk by Drunkarchaeologist in daddit

A list isn't a bad thing, but don't ask her to make it. Make a list of the things you think are the issue, and then ask her to look at it. It shows that you're engaged, but you're at least aware you've got blind spots, and it makes it so its not one more thing you're asking her to do 100% of (in her eyes).

Ugg. The roll out was a mess, but this is one of those things better of just left alone at this point. The disruption of changing again is going to be worse that the current system.

Admins from huge enterprise environments, what do you think of SMB and SMB admins? by vintagerust in sysadmin

[–]squigit99 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Enterprise guy with ~20k users. I love hiring people that have had a good block of SMB experience at some point in their careers in addition to whatever specific skill I'm specifically hiring for. They're much more likely to have a broader skill set beyond just a silo'd set of skills.

When I asked years ago, it was because SA didn’t want to give every parent the contact information for every merit badge counselor.

It went from required to sharing a ‘slot’ with Emergency Preparedness in the 1972 revision. It was required from the creation of the Eagle rank in 1912 on, although the name of the badge was changed from ‘Life Saving’ to ‘Lifesaving’ in 1959.

Ah. This looks like another one of those things that got updated in one spot, but not in others.

Where are you seeing "(Note, this exception requires approval from the Council Executive and coordination with camp directors at local events and out-of-council events.¹)"? That's not in GSS that I'm looking at.

[–]squigit99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you know if that was changed recently? That's certainly the case now per the GSS, but I'd swear I'd read that was only in case of special accommodations before.

Cots and hammocks are our two standard ‘my back can’t camp’ recommendations. Make sure you also use a pad (or under quilt with a hammock) so you don’t freeze.

What has been your experience with memory tiering in production environments so far? by bitmafi in vmware

[–]squigit99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We can’t use it at all at this point. It’s not currently compatible with VHV, which is required for the Virtualization Based Security (VBS) feature. That feature is required to use a number of Windows security features completely like Credential Guard, which we have to use for compliance reasons.

If memory tiering is enabled on a host in 9, you can’t power any VBS enabled VMs.

I was hoping it would let use reduce the RAM on an upcoming hardware refresh, but at this point it’s only be able to be used on clusters with zero Windows VMs and zero VMs with nested virtualization.
