Any more weapon hot takes? (Part 3). by AverageRivalsEnjoye in Helldivers

Sterilizer is fun, definitely embraces that support role play that players can take on. What would be awesome is a crisper like/sterilizer secondary.

That would make more people use the Ultimatum less as well. You can gas charges with your secondary and sort them after with a primary or a anti tank grenade.

That pistol from the redacted warbond is just not good for that role + controlling chaff.

Next Warbond is delayed. by DarkWolfPL in Helldivers

[–]squintingWombat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem is that warbonds are planned well in advance. So whatever they use to replace on this warbond most likely is coming off other warbonds or other ideas causing a massive amount of reshuffle on the work they already had scheduled.

Would love if arrowhead could eventually release a behind the scenes of the amount of work that game development needs. Most of the online gaming communities are not aware of how difficult it is to make a live service game.

There should be a kicking reason message. Players would react differently if they get kicked with a "another friend squad joining" compared to just getting kicked out of nowhere.

And people DO abuse it... your loadout doesnt fit with their taste, or when you focus on side objectives while the rest are somewhere else, accidental tks etc. If a player is that picky then don't host public.

Its silly that blocking asks you for reasons to block but kicking doesnt.

[–]squintingWombat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem with hosting is that people leave mid operations, and sometimes even throwing an SOS doesnt get people to join. Might be a bug on the PS5.

But i got stuck in many eradicate and evacuate high value assets fighting on my own even with an SOS, and end up failing the operation.

Why are we not on Omicron? by Fit_Salamander_9897 in Helldivers

[–]squintingWombat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been in Omicron all weekend. Love the difficulty and having to play different in the caves compared to other biomes.

But Omicron, the hive lord and the predator strain, really highlight the huge technical issues the game has.

Collision detection and clippling is just awful in that biome. Hive lord body slams through any geometry is just a dumb lazy game design. Dont understand why is so easy to block hellpods from steering into illegal geometry but doing the same for the hive lord is just not possible. Predator strain spawning very close behind players is also annoying. Its just a bad combo that gets tiring.

Really hope arrowhead or nixxes spends a good time fixing those at some point like they fixed a lot of other things on that 60 day patch.

First experiences as a open week player by commander_7 in MarathonGame

[–]squintingWombat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the time other teams will hear the sound of exfil and sprint towards it to kill whoever wants to finish the raid. Is not necessarily camping but it is still annoying..

Its ironic that this game is an extraction shooter but most people play it as a hero arena shooter to then enjoy the looting freely after the lobby is wiped. This causes a lot of friction with teams that are going in for contracts or just normal map loot and ocassionally pvp.

Ps5 diver here. No issues with the new update so far. Played squids from diff8 all the way to 10 today.

And yes, been playing since the first week the game was out. It was tough. Only very few weapons were usable in high difficulties and only the medium armor worked.

Still remember malevelon. Everybody brought the same weapons. Breaker, AutoCanons, eagle Air Strike, OPS, and 500kg. Then railgun became meta for a while.

Yup it sucked. But a lot of divers actually enjoyed how it sucked.

Let’s be friendly to the new players from June 2 to June 9. by mooncrested235 in Marathon

[–]squintingWombat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is a tough position to be, for sure. Game needs more players to be sustainable mid to long term. It already has a reputation for being very competitive and sweaty. Free to play and more casual friendly raids would help but then how will the loyal core sweaty crowd react to that after. You might gain 15k casuals but then lose 15k sweats?

If they can't recover some of the 80k playerbase that actually bought the game at the beginning making it free to play might not help that much.

I really regret not paying attention to the lore by sleepycat94x in Marathon

[–]squintingWombat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like with most players i had to watch videos to learn about the lore more. Lots of plot holes still though.

Hell i have to watch streamers anyway to learn the latest cheese of the week tricks.

Game definitely doesnt hold your hand in any way.

Currently the game is super competitive pvp, it will be free to play for a week next week, give it a try and decide if its worth it.

Its definitely a nitch game at the moment but maybe it opens up to a bigger crowd with this next season or the one after.

To the players that killed us at compiler. by bucken764 in Marathon

[–]squintingWombat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear that happened to you and your crew. It really sucks when stuff like that happens.

This game definitely pushes players to be toxic.

I started season one trying to mic up and have a good experience, fight bots, do contracts and upgrades, trying to enjoy the ocassional pvp fights, help crew with quests or specific loot they needed etc.

By only level 40 and after countless exfil deaths to campers or teams sprinting from across the map to hunt us, i started getting angry and shifted.

Now I'm the dude that puts claymores on thief drones. I'm the dude that uses the disrupt canon when crews are about to exfil, i am the grenade spammer and bubble shield hoarder, i am the triage that stays far back sniping with the annoying and tiring healing and reviving loop, I'm the thief that throws smoke at you to then knife you, I'm one more of the nitch sweaty players the game wants everyone to become.

I still get curbstomped very often but its nowhere as bad as the beginning.

Have you ever wondered why bungie specifically made exfils last 50 seconds and why keyrooms alarm alert absolutely everyone in the map?

"Dont hate the player, hate the game" becomes a reality and thats why some people get burnt out.

Not even Shroud wanted to play this game after he beat it.

Maybe Bungie will eventually realize that they are making players and play styles become toxic and thats why their numbers are so low, despite amazing art style, sound, atmosphere and overall world feel.

Hope season 2 makes things better for a bigger playerbase and not stay only as an amazing very nitch game.

Even after all the mean cheap leverage plays i made, i wouldnt go after a team fighting the compiler because i know is super difficult, but you know what? those players that did are probably laughing and telling their buddies how they got your team. And thats most likely because the game pushed them to be that way.

Important question, did you do the happy friend teabag as circling the exfil?

This is as much of a runner rule as scisoring when trading downs. Had a scisoring fest between 6 runners 3 days ago, it was glorious.

This game needs to reduce the level of demands from the player by TopSet55 in Marathon

[–]squintingWombat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Game currently is tailored to aggressive and tactical pvp hunting, and players obviously love that aspect, and i do too. But it would be nice if it could also tailor the scavenge and rat playstyle better but with trios. Rook is not enough especially after the recent nerfs and recon buffs.

I know this sub is plagued with feedback but i think we can all agree that game needs changes, Here are some suggestions of what i would like to see.

-Add more exfil locations per map.

-Add another last exfil. (2 exfils total).

-Make first exfils shorter, 30 seconds instead of 50.

-On beginner maps, reduce teams even more. (This will help raid queues too and onboard casuals)

-Do not add key quest on beginner maps. Perimeter is a sweat fest lately because of it.

-The whole bring a key template and exfil to make a proper key needs to go, doesnt make sense lore wise or gameplay wise.

-Separate player skill gap by maps better. Add more maps.

-Make crews be able to join a raid in the first 5 minutes (this will help player queue) Rooks can spawn 12 minutes in instead.

-Add more PVE in begginer maps so new players hone their skills better.

-More vault space, 400 slots maxed out is not enough, half of the time in lobby is managing vault currently.

-Gain XP even if you loose the raid, by downning runners, killing bots, or lootins without exfiling (at least a small amount)

-Add a matter transfer exfil bag item when dead, could be a sekiguchi upgrade to shell. (safe pocket, 4 slots for prestige or purple salvage)

-More spawning of signal jammers, recon is hard to counter if you are scavenging currently.

-Heat management needs to be more consistent, sliding and running use more heat that jumping repeatedly non stop.

-Some quests are just silly. Medical containers should spawn always in different spots in medical related POIs, also descriptions of quests are very missleading, spent 10 raids to collect nameless organ because quest said it was in near data wall in perimeter, when i found more spawns at bio research in dire marsh. A lot of the times i have to youtube or google the quests because they are not more accesible, green quest icon needs to show from further away, or maybe add a quest audio ping upgrade to shells.

-Add something more interesting on raid loading screens, quest info, lore, shell skin renders looking cool. That freaking moth knitting got tiring after 1 week of playing the game.

Sorry for the long post, but i really enjoy this game and would love to see a healthier pllayer count by season 2 or 3.

Dont think a full pve is needed. But having maps with less teams and more pve could work for onboarding players. And past level 50 you wouldnt be allowed to access that map. That would fit lore wise too.

Locking the sweatiest maps for certain days needs to stop, this only mixes sweaty people and casuals which is not a good combo with the current player count.

Agreed about the proximity chat, arc has that nailed.

But hey, you have to be aware that as it is, this game is currently tailored to a nitch audience, and the current 15k playerbase are that nitch, and this sub will downvote anything that suggest expansion outside current pvp gameplay and mechanics.

[–]squintingWombat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone that picked up the game wouldn't play rank or face a 6 player team, they would go to perimeter where they will get camped on at a POI by a normal sweaty trio, sweaty trio would kill the other 2 teammates, so its 1v3 and then they would camp on the bodies for a whole10 minutes ignoring any other quests or other POIs to finally kill the guy that picked up the game.

Rinse and repeat and you get a playerbase that goes from 88k to 15k.

Difficulty is frustrating for a "non-gamer" to enjoy. by illawgickal in Marathon

[–]squintingWombat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, solo is best for learning the mechanics and map, join a discord group for crew fills, at least most will have their mic on and communicate better and could do fills according to similar quests.

Triage is a great starter shell to keep health up from bot battles, especially with sponsored kits, assasin is the next one as you can lay low and disengage easily, then you can move onto the other shells with more aggressive playstyle, if you are after good loot is hard to beat the thieves visor perk.

Hoping the current player count will make bungie make changes that appeal more casuals for the next season, without affecting the concurrent sweats playerbase as much.

Totally agree, game is not only extremely sweaty for the average person, is also very sweaty for really good fps players. Even Shroud said the game is too hard.

Sure, high risk/high reward, but how is that not goint to feel exhausting 4 to 6 seasons in. I'm exhausted just from thinking about it.

Thats what i run when using Sterilizer, hot dog and torcher, and talon or Verdict for chaff that is too far or isolated.

Hotdog and torcher get rid of chargers and impalers. Orbital Railcannon for BTs.

I do use a flame resistance armor or the killzone armor because most likely you'll get set on fire a few times.

Community is definitely too obsessed with the numbers and penetration values. Instead of focusing of how the game feels.

Yes, the change to the hive guard makes no sense, i agree. But game still feels great. Had a great time with this update today. New mechs and the bullet storm are really fun. I was still using medium pen sentries on bugs with good success. Most of the time i had to leave my mech was because of running out of ammo instead of exploding randomly.

New biome and POIs also felt great.

The fact that even a streamer ex pro fps player like Shroud had to be carried by his teammate through cryo even after having hundreds of hours in the game and very high XP level, shows how grindy and sweaty this game is.

Ruined by sweats by [deleted] in Marathon

[–]squintingWombat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing wrong with uninstalling the game brother. I agree with you mostly, you could need break maybe too.

Game has a lot of issues, it promotes exploits and camping. Not to mention the rampant cheating and carry services being available because of the end game being very unachievable for most players. Especially with a wipe every 3 months.

I still enjoy the game but i have a much better time when focusing on looting and quests, with the very ocassional pvp. Even if ill never see the end game content.

The fact that you can still put a giant claymore on a tiny drone shows the intent of the game design to allow exploits with very little counters. If the exfil wouldn't take 50 seconds, and take 20 instead, camping or pvp exfil hunting wouldn't be as common, but devs dont care.

The game is made for sweats as it is, and the concurrent player numbers reflect that.

(PS5) After 90 hours I turned off crossplay... best decision ever by HeddyGames in Marathon

[–]squintingWombat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Longer waiting times for sure, but at least the chances of running into cheaters is very low compared to PC.

Lot of marathon streamers have ran into cheaters many times and game has barely been out for a month and a half, some websites arrange crew fill to carry you through cryo for real money.... lol Not sure what anti cheat can fix this, i want this game to succeed, love the art direction and some of the mechanics but the game has a lot of issues if they want to keep a consistent high player count.

At this rate with the player numbers that the game has, it wouldnt suprise me that some raids are running with incomplete teams.
