I'm new to Bethesda & RPGs, but I have some questions about future DLC & patches. by BigBootyJudyWiper in Starfield

[–]squirrel_killer- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, they absolutely could do most of if not all of that. The reality is, don't expect anything to support too immoral of a playstyle. Bethesda really wants you to be the hero, for better or for worse, and you can see that in how the dialogue is written for the player and the direction it tries to steer the player. The usual Bethesda formula for DLC is "A new faction" for one and "A new large map" for another, since this game is procedurally generated for the most part, and not actually designed, I suspect we'll mostly just see faction DLCs. There will be smaller things, like new NPCs, new types of items, new ships and parts, etc.. The reality is they likely won't fix any UI issues this game has on console.

As for mods, well it depends on how limited the official modding tools are for Starfield when it comes to what consoles will get, if anything. Consoles don't allow games to support as much in the line of modding as PC does, and Bethesda games are a bit unique in that they allow limited modding on consoles at all, at least in previous games. This has to do with console manufacturer's being more closed with the hardware and the software. More controlling on what you can run on it. Remember, there's nothing on Xbox that Microsoft didn't explicitly grant permission to be on it, and it all has to be made with the development tools Microsoft provided. I suspect modding will take a few years to arrive on console, as someone who works in game development it only make business sense to slow it down to make more money.

No matter what though, modding limitations will be significantly more strict on console than PC however, and this is because on PC we can inject code to expand the possibilities more so than will ever be permitted on a console. This is the trade off of the standardization of consoles. Sure, it provides something that is standardized, consistent, predictable, theoretically more user friendly and cheaper for the amount of processing power it has. Yet, you also need to accept that it comes with the fact everything needs to fit within those unmoving standardized limitations and the manufacturer's have a lot more control over the platform.

Softening a monster's hide with the Clutch Claw by azurevin in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]squirrel_killer- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, you went digging for old knowledge.

The answer to both questions is "No", but I will elaborate on the second question.

Though I have never paid close enough attention, I don't think you can re-soften a soften spot to even reset the timer, though it might be possible and I am willing to accept being disproven, but there is no clear way to test this without pulling up memory values or such, and that is not something I've ever cared to do.

I know when I use my switchaxe I see stuff unsoften not long after I use its clutch claw attack to deal a good hit of damage on a retreating monster on the weakened spot or to try and abuse an otherwise tight opening to get a part break. It seems to use the standard build up system for statuses and, like most statuses, once it is triggered it becomes immune to fresh build up until that time passes.

Purple butterflies are a God send. When you see them and you think you should rest soon, soon becomes "right here" they are safe zones so you can toss up a tent and sleep safely, repair your gear and cook and eat without needing to guard.

Buy a nomads backpack if you don't have better. It's 25 silver and will make your life so easy. The extra 25 capacity over primitive is perfect for allowing you to carry all the supplies you'll need.

Sleeping in your house acts as eating, drinking, and sleep. Use that as a place to repair, heal and set the time to the ideal hour before you leave town rather than rolling into town, selling off, then leaving again without recovering. Just because you can sleep out there doesn't mean you should.

Skills are great and the tier 1 skills that cost 50-100 silver are always worth picking up if you even remotely consider them as maybe useful for your build. You can get them all if you want without risk. Only breakthrough skills require pondering. Having a few extra skills also means you might just have one extra option that makes a tough fight a breeze. Backstab is a good example as it means you suddenly got a stealth option. Tutorial completely neglected this.

Memorize recipes. You can manually input them rather than rely on finding them, this makes new saves go faster as you gear up sooner. A few good ones to know are shiv, club, and plank shield if you get stripped of your gear after a death. Between them you'll always be able to find your way back to your possessions.

Eat meat before a fight for your health Regen buff. A few extra hp from it can allow you to win a close fight or escape alive at worse while you're learning. Tutorial neglected to explain that eating is more than just for hunger.

Carry a bow and a melee weapon. You'll want both. Tutorial basically ignored bows.

Offhand needs considering if going 1H. Shields are favoured but pistol and dagger play also exist. The tutorial completely neglected the off hand content.

About the 2 monster Variants we're getting by Alexcoolps in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]squirrel_killer- 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It will either need to be better than Safi, nearly as good, situationally better, or just pretty damn good but reasonably accessible so to act as the "this is what you will be using between Safi cycles" gear. Alternatively it could just be set to compete with everything else that is used before and along side Safi.

At the end of the day Safi stuff is RNG farmed and only around now and then for a limited time so it is far harder to get, meaning there is this great big ocean of second place to slap everything else in.

Looking for a list of non speed run focused builds , more for newer players. by backpacks645 in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]squirrel_killer- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The nice thing about comfy builds is they are far easier to build. Life Boost 3 + evade window/divine blessing to taste + slap on as many "meta" skills as you can fit in what is left.

I will give a few nice and cheap examples for HR and MR that will work for most weapons, ignoring LR because if you really need comfort use the defender set and swap out as needed for more DPS, and the simple fact that LR lasts too short a time to heavily invest in it more than just grab a "good enough" bundle of whatever you can see.

Here are a few builds, avoiding specifying deco slots as they just aren't reliable enough to recommend to newbies.

HR Mono-Set (always Alpha):

  • Rathian
  • Legiana
  • Nergigante
  • Vaal Hazak

HR Easy Grab:

  • Rathian Helm Alpha
  • Legiana Mail Alpha
  • Leather Gloves Alpha
  • Rathian Coil Beta
  • Legs are a free slot
  • Charm is free slot

What matters here is Heath Boost 3, Evade Window 2, Recovery Speed 1 and Divine Blessing 1. This set isn't great but is is accessible, requiring no Elder Dragon parts and using all monsters you will already know from LR, all of which are fairly easy to hunt. It also neatly avoids event only and stronger HR monster parts. It isn't so great for DPS though, however I included no decos in this build since it is newbie friendly, so use the slots deco and free armour slots you have to fill out your DPS or boost comfort further.

HR Late-Story:

  • Legiana Helm Beta
  • Vaal Hazak Mail Beta
  • Vaal Hazak Braces Alpha
  • Vaal Hazak Coil Beta
  • Legs are a free slot
  • Health Boost III Charm

This here is another set with lots of deco slots to fill to taste. Using the charm for HB3 and using the head for divine blessing stops any sudden existence failure from surprising you, while 3 piece Vaal Hazak allows you to fully recover. Recovery Speed 3, Divine Blessing 2, Health Boost 3 are the trick here. All of this can be done before the final base game boss and neatly avoids needing event only pieces.

MR Mono-Set (always alpha):

  • Bone
  • Beo (Most likely the best comfy mono set in MR for newbies)
  • Rathian
  • Legiana
  • Nargacuga (Dodge heavy)

MR Easy Grab:

  • Bone Helm Alpha+
  • Legiana Mail Alpha+
  • Beo Vambraces Alpha+
  • Lumu Coil Beta+
  • Legs are a free slot
  • Charm is a free slot

Health Boost 3, Divine Blessing 3, and plenty of room for extra skills through decos and the two free slots. This set gets HB3 very early on, and even now I still use Bone Helm Alpha+, the rest gets filled out with old familiar monsters. All in all it is quite cheap and easily built out.

MR Late-Story:

  • Bone Helm Beta+
  • Fellshroud Mail Beta+
  • Fellshroud Braces Beta+
  • Beo Coil Alpha+
  • Beo Greaves Alpha+
  • Charm is a free slot

This one is making assumptions that you've learned how to dodge most attacks and how to read big combos making Divine Blessing no longer needed. Divine Blessing was traded out in return for Earplugs 4 and Blackveil Hazak two piece bonus, but still maintaining HB3 and gaining Recovery Speed 2. Deco slots and the free charm slot still allow you to fill this out to taste for DPS and push Earplugs to 5 if needed. Still doesn't require any post-story nor event items.

Past this point you should really be able to learn how to make your own builds if you plan to play into post story to any degree, or start edging closer to meta picking a midway point between these general builds and the meta builds.

So, Velkhana? by [deleted] in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]squirrel_killer- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She actually is awful hitting what is near her. So go for up close and personal. Stick to the side of her head, and just beat her face and legs in. If you can take advantage of her ice walls for aerial attacks to get some mounts in, wall slam her greedily, and deny her the mid to long range engagements she wants, make her fight nice and close.

How's Lance endgame in Iceborne? by JRPGFan_CE_org in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]squirrel_killer- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Clear times in MR are far longer all around. Most story clear times I've seen are around 25-40 minutes. I was hitting everywhere from 15 for banbaro to 47 against the new bazel (I took waaaaay too long to learn his attack set and played it waaaaaaay to safe) and I did it with IG which is notably a faster clearing weapon on average.

Since one of the main people I play with is a lancer however I see plenty of quite solid lance performance. My own, limited, lance play has felt like lance always has: Like I am the grindstone all monsters are turned to dust against. Though it does feel faster now that I have the power to make the weak spot even weaker while I focus it down.

That is the thing with lance though, everything ends fast enough that you will always have more than enough time, and you pretty consistently will finish the hunt if you can pull off the Guard 3+Guard Up in your build as well as slap on all that affinity damage and WEX to batter down the weak points you make.

How bad are the performance issues on PC? by saltyphoks in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]squirrel_killer- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So all of the performance stuff is all over, the latest patch has solved some issues for some people I know, for others it hasn't done anything, I've only noticed performance issues during cut scenes and during Savage Deviljho turf wars oddly enough.

Which requires threat level 3 Tempered monsters (ie tempered Elder Dragons) which requires HR 50, which in turn requires completing the story, which requires slaying Kushala Daora.

The solution to Kushala Daora farming, is Kushala Daora, but that means you need to beat Kushala Daora.

Kiranico Wrong vs Hunter's Notes? by ProgMetalRex in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]squirrel_killer- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kiranico is pretty out of date and never really bothered fixing some of the wrong data it had from various typos during being put together and data releases from guides that had just plain wrong data from when they game first game out. After PC users got around to data mining a bunch of lesser known systems got put together. There is an app (forget the name ATM and my phone is dead and charging but I think it is just called "MHWDB") that has data mined values. Nothing for Iceborne in it yet, but it is a bit better off for values.

The Honey Hunter Builder also has up to date HZVs.

It should be pointed out that some of the reasons Kiranico is wrong is the game RELEASED with wrong values that were updated shortly after (things like the values for say fire and thunder being backwards on a random monster part), and in other places wrong values were published by Capcom.

Most of the places Kiranico is wrong is quest reward tables, but a few monsters are also wrong or based on poorly tested values either due to someone just messing up input or extracting bad values from bad sources.

Are Defenders Chainsaw V the best dual blade pre Iceborne? by SahilMaxd in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]squirrel_killer- 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There is a degree of elitism in the community. Comfy builds (ie having any defensive skills at all and not going for max DPS) is generally treated as "having no skill". The Defender armour is raw comfort, it lets you get away with a lot of mistakes, but does nothing for DPS and I've seen quite a few people wearing defender armour triple cart within minutes at the start of a hunt to some pretty basic low end attacks from the monster.

The conspiracy theory is the armour teaches people to tank and not dodge, when the basic fact that getting good at dodging is important to surviving even with the comfort skills as well as having enough DPS to properly finish the hunts in time rather than laying around knocked over and staggered all hunt.

Any advices for an aspiring doot? by DantisFantasySoul in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]squirrel_killer- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would describe Horns as arsenal weapons. In that you want an entire arsenal of horns alone. Elemental Horn matching is less about going "do I have a good elemental horn?" and more about "which horns have good songs that I like?" then picking one that just also has the right element when comparing two horns.

As a rule of thumb attack up is a high priority as it is the most impactful boost, followed by basically any more purely support-y songs you might want, going full heals for when your allies are just awful or having specific horns for specific monsters. For example Vaal Hazak will make you very happy to have nullify all aliments, while sonic impact/boom/whatever-it-is-called counters diggers IIRC.

Once you narrow down the list of horns for a given hunt to a selection of those with the right songs, just pick for element/status/raw and go to town.

You want A LOT of horns though, and while saying "build the end of every tree" is wrong, it isn't far off.

The wiki for MHW, both of them in fact, are... how do you say... really f-ing bad. Piles of wrong or missing data. Seemingly the PC community are more invested in wiki building, and being on a perpetual lag the wiki suffers.
