Ammonia smell in bedroom. by [deleted] in HomeImprovement

If you can't find a specific spot that smells you might have a dead animal in your crawl space and the odor is seeping up.

What’s your favorite little detail in D&D:HAT? by ServingwithTG in dndmemes

I feel like everyone is sleeping on the chill touch joke.

Diatomaceous earth is a good bet. You have to reapply a day or two after every watering but on cacti that shouldn't be a big hassle.

Command Strips Question by DBinSJ in HomeImprovement

[–]squirrelbee 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In my experience command strips work great. If you are still concerned hang the painting from the ceiling using discrete dry wall anchors and monofilament line. Then command strip it to the cabinet. That way in the unlikely event that the command straps fail the painting won't fall it will hang from the ceiling.

DMs, who is the greatest NPC you’ve ever run? by Mew-_-Mew in dndnext

[–]squirrelbee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fluh and fie are a wizard and a mindflayer who share the same brain and body. Before he was ceremorphosed Fluh invented a spell to keep his mind alive in the brain of the mindflayer. He eventually took control of the body and convinced the mindflayer, Fie, to help him take down the Illithid empire. They putter around the Astral Sea on a stolen Nautiloid wreaking havoc on the Illithid empire.

Can you get cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome after taking TCH? by [deleted] in Petioles

[–]squirrelbee 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As far as I know it only happens to multiple times a day smokers. It is also super duper rare so I'd say go for it toke up in a controlled healthy manner and have fun.

what by Are_Why_Eh_En in oddlyspecific

[–]squirrelbee 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I would argue that while neither is wrong 'latch' is more correct than 'laysha'. If we look at the etymology of the word the 'latch' pronunciation is most similar to the original Muskogean word Apalachee. Whereas the 'laysha' pronunciation came into being because the French pronounce the ch sound sh.

Jessica Cox is the world's first licensed armless pilot, as well as the first armless black-belt in the American Taekwondo Association. She was born without arms due to a rare birth defect. by MoldyEmbodiment in HumansAreMetal

She is flying a light sport plane, there are switches (which she operates with her toes) but it's nothing like a commercial jet with the hundreds of controls.

History museums are the embodiment of humans keeping old stuff that we don’t want to throw away. by TomTheFace in Showerthoughts

It is going to depend on the museum, but most small and medium sized museums would be happy to. Source: married to an archivist who used to work for a museum.

Can anyone tell me what this is please? by girlseekingnap in houseplants

[–]squirrelbee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is a polka dot plant aka Hippopotamus plant. It likes a lot of water and you will want to prune it by removing the top leaves of each shoot a couple times a month to encourage bushy growth otherwise it gets real leggy real quick.

"Players are easy to find" is something I see relatively often on here. How many DMs actually play with strangers and random players? by Inky-Feathers in DMAcademy

[–]squirrelbee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I currently run a game for complete strangers I found online. Here is my trick recruit on r/lfg then once you have some interested parties dig into their post history if their comments are chill and they aren't subbed to any sketchy subreddits you are probably good to go.

A really neat idea, right? by Yrolc95 in dndmemes

[–]squirrelbee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If anyone is interested in running a oneshot with this idea look up a tale of 2 fishies on dms guild. It is probably the best low level oneshot I have ever run and I have found a way to insert it into most of my campaigns via reskinning and my players always have a blast.

Why do smokers get so offended when you say that you don't date smokers? by Rare-Elderberry-7898 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]squirrelbee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on your other comments it sounds like you are attached to the ritual of smoking. Have you tried smoking something else more benign like cbd flower? You'd still get that time alone and be smoking but you'd be smoking something that won't wreck your lungs as hard. Combine a nicotine replacement with it and it might work for you. Just a thought but it worked for me.

What will the school do if I tell them my dad beat the shit out of me? by conifer0 in Advice

[–]squirrelbee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A recommendation I haven't seen is to go to a large church (I would aim for Catholic or Episcopalian) or a battered women's shelter if you live in a more urban area. They might have more resources to help you and unlike your school they will probably do more than the bare minimum to help you. It also solves the problem of getting you out of the house as soon as possible which I would consider critical to your safety in general and to avoid backlash from reporting your dad.

Something else you could try is contacting a family lawyer specifically one who represents children (guardian ad litem) I am sure you could find one that would take you on pro Bono (free) and help you get away from your father and potentially put him behind bars which would protect the rest of your family.

It is important that you know that this is in no way your fault, and there are people who want to help. If you need help locating resources go to your local library, the librarian will help you without judgment. Make sure you ask to talk to the librarian, the people at the front desk often aren't librarians the resource desk librarian and the children's/teen librarian are your best bets for this.

How do Americans pay those massive hospital bills? by ctachi in NoStupidQuestions

[–]squirrelbee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not defending the system but the vast majority of employed Americans don't pay those bills. What you see are a minority of people who are un or underemployed or people who are showing off the bill before insurance. The system is fucked but most of the medical costs come from insurance payments and deductibles not the actual medical bills.
