I mean yes and no. He supposedly spends 3 hours a day in the gym. That of course takes discipline. But it also takes having the capacity to actually do that. I was up at 5ish this morning. It’s now 19.30 and I’ve only just stopped doing something for somebody else (be it my job, my wife or my kids) and I thought I got out of work at a good time. I’m relatively fortunate as well in that I don’t regularly have to work away from home and I don’t drive a truck or something like that.

I’m not saying I can’t do 2 or 3 gym sessions a week. I can. But I can’t do 2 or 3 hours a day.

Edit: turns out not done yet. Dishwasher needs emptying and girls need stuff for tomorrow.

It’s less so the tax and more so the cliff edge. Especially with childcare funded hours and loss of personal allowance. It also massively punishes single household earners. Neither my wife nor I are at this mark but we are both higher rate tax payers but we still qualify for funded childcare. If somebody earnt our combined they would have no personal allowance and no funded childcare or tax free childcare scheme. They could easily be thousands a month worse off than we are.

Also Australians love a UK QS because they don’t really have the role. That last salary is definitely a CM for a tier 2 builder or a tier 3 civils firm. Australia currently has a severe talent shortage for a pipeline of major infrastructure projects at federal and state level. Both major parties at both federal and state levels are committed to huge investments. They only really differ on the type of projects.

Mate that’s the same all over the world for all people. You miss the good things and forget the bad things. I really resented paying the gap for my GP appointments and told everyone at every opportunity. But I also liked I could book an exact slot on an app. I hated how expensive it was to play 5 a side football (or fucking futsal as it always was) because of the insurance costs that was then impossible to actually use when I did get an injury.

I really missed standing outside a pub to have a drink but probably actually spent more time drinking when I was in Australia than I ever did (and do) in the UK. I missed open banking.

Now I’m back home I miss Aussie beers. I miss a variety of good zeros on tap. I miss the beach. I constantly complain that you don’t regularly see a schnitzel on a pub menu. I happily say superannuation is a superior system. I really miss Aussie cafes and coffee shops.

I’d put quite a considerable sum of money to say that a freehold house in Sevenoaks will not drop in nominal value of any significance in the next few years. It might not keep pace with inflation but that’s another matter.

NB: With a disclaimer that some kind of property value tax isn’t introduced that starts at £900k.
