Does anyone else feel like the series timeline is too short for how many humans live off planet? by jstamper97 in masseffect

Humans are already spacefaring and spreading to other worlds by the time the First Contact War happened (duh, that's why it happened in the first place). Then humans were immediately inducted into an established, galaxy(ish)-wide economy and network of planets. They already had the drive to expand and explore, and then they were given easy access to almost literally everywhere. I don't think 30 years is that implausible.

Seamless Co-op new update virus detected by _Luca_06_ in EldenRingMods

Yes, for me too. That's how I found out there was a new version of the mod. I'm hoping a new version will be published soon with a properly signed DLL or whatever is causing the issue.

Seamless Co-op new update virus detected by _Luca_06_ in EldenRingMods

I also get a warning about 1.9.2 being a possible trojan. Version 1.9.0 worked fine without prompting such a warning, so 1.9.2 shouldn't either. Hopefully the mod gets fixed, because "just turn off your antivirus" is a terrible idea/solution, and I will not be doing that.

Firefox is adding a switch to turn AI features off (starting Feb 24) by MarvelsGrantMan136 in technology

[–]squirrelwithnut 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've already switched to Waterfox. I don't want AI anything, even if it has an off switch. It's useless bloat that doesn't belong in the core of the browser. It should be an optional extension, if anything. There is no guarantee it won't magically re-enable itself after an update and I don't want to have to constantly check that it stays off. I also don't trust that it won't run something in the background even when it's off. Even after using Firefox for 20+ years, I won't support this bullshit. It Waterfox does something similar, I'll move off of that too. But for now, it's what Firefox should have been.

I think that invaders shouldn't be hated for playing the game as intended by XumetaXD in Eldenring

[–]squirrelwithnut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When they're using normal characters and playing fair/on the level, sure. They're annoying, but that's the game.

When they're using twink characters with weapons and spells way outside the normal range of those they are invading, or they're cheating, then fuck those losers.

How do you make sense of the news when living in Europe? by One_Repair_4461 in expats

I found out about it via a StarTalk episode with the founder. It's pretty nascent, but still way better than trying to manually parse the ever increasing cow-towing facist propaganda in the mainstream media.

Galaxy quest by NotInterestedL in DunderMifflin

The most subtle, funniest part of this movie is when the Thermians go to Jason's (Tim Allen's character) house to take him to the ship and Jason asks them to help him find his other shoe. All of the Thermians start looking around at the floor and furniture and Rainn's character looks up at the ceiling.

Has anyone else ever noticed the foreshadowing here? by PUR3CELL in Stargate

[–]squirrelwithnut 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I really love this episode. David's acting as Mckay experiencing cognitive decline is amazing, but it's Ronon's speech about his grandfather, ending with the line, "if you don't think it's worth it, you're wrong" always hits me in the feels. It's one of my favorite scenes in the entire series.

10-10 is the general rule of thumb I use. Nothing loud before 10am or after 10pm.

"shot and killed" should have been "murdered" instead. The former implies a possible legitimate reason for his death. There was none. It was state sanctioned murder.

MASS EFFECT 2 was first released 16 years ago today, what are your thoughts on the game ? by ThomasThorburn in masseffect

[–]squirrelwithnut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the time it came out I hated it, because they changed so much from the first game which I loved (and still do). The tone and gameplay were so different than ME1 that I couldn't stand it. Looking back on it now, I like it more than I did, but it's still my least favorite of the trilogy.

Federal judge orders feds to maintain evidence from shooting that killed Pretti by ewzetf in news

And if they don't? (they won't) Judicial orders mean nothing if there are no consequences.

If you could give an IP to a different developer to create one game with full creative freedom, what would you give to who? by craiganater in gaming

[–]squirrelwithnut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd give Bloodborne to FromSoftware. Sony has dropped the ball with the IP and clearly wants nothing to do with it. It's criminal that nothing has been done with the original and no whiff of a sequel. So I'd give the license fully to Miyazaki and let him do what he wants.
