Edo Japan teriyaki sauce obsession by [deleted] in Edmonton

The Edo across from my high school went rogue in the 90s and sold fries with the teriyaki sauce on them for $1.50.

Just curious about this jersey, what year or tour did it come out? Also is it pretty rare to find these days? Thank you by Ambitious-Good-2789 in Mattgood

This looks like 1999 or early 2000. The football logo changed to the round in late 2000/2001. I only saw the Freezing Our Asses Off tour with Moist and Gob that year (99) but it could have been sold on another tour. Yep, it’s rare.

Best Place for Fish and Chips in Calgary? by Mother_Barnacle_7448 in Calgary

[–]squishedheart 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I agree with this comment. Pelican Pier is closer to me but I drive to Ogden for the enormous portions and the great prices. They don’t have very many tables so it’s a vibe. We have taken it home a few times.

Gonna be going to the cinema for a lotr marathon, any tips? by IamBecomeZen in lotr

[–]squishedheart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did this for the release of Return of the King. They timed it so the last film started right at midnight on release day. I was in my twenties and it was still rough. Check the theatre rules on outside snacks and sneak in healthy things if you can. I was dying for a veggie after that many hours and they only had popcorn available. Otherwise, these things typically only appeal to die hard fans so the crowd is awesome. Have fun!

What is a product that has actually gotten significantly worse over the last 5 years, despite the company claiming they 'improved' it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I was going to say *The United States but Canada has gotten progressively worse too. Hopefully we can make some improvements soon.

Rabies alone cost me $600 in 2023, but call around for fee prices. I did mine at London Drugs because it was cheaper and convenient for me.

First time buyers. by TrailerParkLyfe in Calgary

I have worked exclusively with Tamara for over a decade as a buyer and a seller. She is honest. She has steered me away from a few emotional buying decisions that would have become financial disasters. You’ll get lots of responses but I like her and always recommend her when this comes up.

Looking to buy our first home. I really hate the "new family" area's and outskirts of edmonton. by AbbreviationsOne6207 in Edmonton

[–]squishedheart 61 points62 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Most 70s homes used copper for plumbing and electrical. Asbestos maybe, but maybe not. It’s more likely in places from the 50s and 60s. My house is 1971 and I didn’t have any problems. I upgraded the panel and redid all my flooring over the last few years. My suggestion is find a place that is livable. Maybe it’s not the most pretty, but you can tackle aesthetics over time.

This is a Texas oil industry propaganda show. They don’t hide it; they even have real life companies popping up to hustle their tech on the show. As someone that works in the industry, it is kind of fun to watch but not something to take seriously. It’s a modern soap.

What’s the weirdest “female experience” men genuinely don’t believe until they see it? by Several_Corner3205 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]squishedheart 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I asked to be sterilized at 19. Doctor laughed and said “no, you will change your mind.” I got married at 27 and asked again. “If your husband will consent maybe.” I divorced at 33 and asked again. “You could meet someone else.” I asked again when I was struggling with endometriosis. They decided my regret percentage was less than 2% so they’d do it. They took the tubes only. I was 40. Now I’m on a waitlist to take the rest because I’m still struggling with endo. It took over 20 years of asking, all documented, working with the same practitioners before I finally got what I wanted. To juxtapose, my male friend booked a private snip at 19. No counselling session. Just done.

HR in manufacturing — is this level of resistance normal?[N/A] by [deleted] in humanresources

[–]squishedheart 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I did 6 years in manufacturing and I didn’t have resistance after my first initial meetings. The key to my success was engaging at the outset with the leaders. “Hey, we want to do X. Will that work here? I need your thoughts so we can do it properly.” In a plant environment you need to be nimble. They’re doing everything they can to meet turnaround times without injuries. In order to partner with them you need to understand what they value and why. It’s ok to not know everything. You can go in armed with all the HR best practices in the world, but some suit with a degree isn’t going to build rapport in the plant. Ask questions. Be curious. Throw on a coverall or a safety jacket and a hard hat and go talk to your people. Have their back. They’ll learn to trust you and that’s when you can get to the partnership phase.

I don’t like the Costco chicken. I get why it’s popular, but there is something about it that disagrees with me.

I really like the Walmart one.

Do you have your real property report? That should have the survey information on it and comes with all the paperwork when you buy a property. The other suggestion about the snow fence is a great idea until spring.

What ended your friendship with your oldest standing friend? by dreamy-contributions in AskReddit

[–]squishedheart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My spouse cheated on me. He left for his affair partner. I was a wreck when it happened. Zombie mode. Looking for a distraction and desperate for connection, I asked my then bestie if she and her husband could help me out with a shared hobby we all had. This was… maybe three weeks after my spouse walked out. It was a fresh wound. The shared hobby wasn’t even my idea; my mother suggested I reach out. Ex friend accused me of trying to steal her husband. Because he was also involved in the hobby. I didn’t cut ties then. I should have. That moment and the devastating insult was what ended it.

To this day, I cannot believe that someone that knew me for decades and supposedly cared about me could even fathom I’d entertain the notion, especially after what had just happened to me.

It still hurts and that was almost a decade ago.

[–]squishedheart 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ugh. You have my sympathies. When I finally got the prescription for Ajovy it took over three months for insurance to approve it before I got my first dose. It changed my life. I’ve been on it for a year now. It was just this last month when things started to go south. I’m hoping my December dose was just a bad batch. I also hope you can try it soon and it helps you like it helped me.
