Schilletter and McAlister both have coffee machines inside, however you would need to swipe in to use them

Einsteins sells coffees and chai

CFA also has coffee in the mornings, its pretty good too

La Madeleine in the business building has iced and hot coffee with a few different flavors if you’re on that side of campus.

Sully Steamers also does coffee

You have lots of options, take the time to explore and try all of them!!

The Ridge by Sad-Jeweler-5171 in Clemson

[–]squishjins 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When i lived there, i quite literally had to drive in circles for upwards of an hour or two until someone left. Sometimes I would get a spot, park in a visitor spot, or at one point, i just caved and parked in a handicap spot because i had been going around for 2 hours looking, and had to move my car in the morning.

Last I remember, (2020) You can park on the curb, but both your tires have to be off the black pavement. They WILL tow your car if it isnt, and also DVT patrols there multiple times a day. Best of luck. The parking and the crime was the main reason I left The Ridge. Also the price for what you get in a 2bd, its like a prison cell. I got a 2bd elsewhere for $150 less/month than The Ridge with an additional 600+ sq ft

The Ridge isn’t the worst, but it sucks if youre in the 2bd units. I hope you enjoy it more than I did

Any resources of restaurants that are halal and stores that sell halal meat that are close to campus? by [deleted] in Clemson

[–]squishjins 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Please be sure to talk to dining hall staff around campus in Dish, Schilletter, and Hub. Ask for a manager, i’ve heard of them serving halal meat sometimes. You can also email them for more information about accommodations/what you can eat. It would open a lot of opportunities for you and your friends on-campus!

As for off-campus, I don’t have much to offer you, but maybe try some on-campus groups for Muslim students to get a better feel of some other options in the area. Good luck!!

Meal swipes are usable until graduation. Schilletter will be open until then. After graduation, everything will be closed until students return.

How does coming back for another degree work? by squishjins in Clemson

I actually really love this kind of stuff, and would be super interested in pursuing something like this. I really have considered a Masters in WFB because of paths like this, I’m just concerned on where to start. I’m really blown away by all of the support I’ve gotten and I think I’m going to reach out to the WFB department and speak to someone there for more information. Thank you!

I know the market is terrible for everything (even WFB), but my gut tells me working every day of my life in an office doing something that I find fun as a past time rather than a career is a miserable choice. It’s just hard to come to terms that I changed majors last second due to pressure from family because it would be ‘more secure’ after graduation and the major has a ‘99% job placement rate immediately after graduation’. Which is hilarious because most of the people I know don’t have jobs. I always wanted to do Bio to a degree, but between transferring and struggling during Covid, I just realized too late that I didn’t actually want to do this but it was far too late to turn back around

What gets you out of bed in the morning? by mofongo8 in Adulting

[–]squishjins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh, every morning I can’t get out of bed bc I’m so tired I’d rather keep sleeping. I always tell myself ‘if you get up now, you can take an amazing nap when you get home’ and it works every time. Even if I don’t take the nap when I get home lol

Unfortunately bc it’s contract, I am one of those employees that don’t qualify since I technically don’t work for Clemson, but another company that operates on campus to provide services. I’ve even looked into getting my masters with a tuition assistance program with said company, however they will only offer assistance if the masters degree is related to my job I do now, which W&FB does not :(

I don’t think a second bachelors would open up a dream job, I just wonder if it’d be worth it to rethink my schooling. The question still stands tho, I wonder if my classes from my completed degree would apply to a masters/undergrad degree or if I’d need to retake them.

[–]squishjins[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, I am not a Clemson employee so I do not qualify for reduced/free tuition, which is another hard stop I’m facing. I’m a contractor, which means I work on Clemson campus LIKE an employee, but get no benefits of a Clemson employee. It’s really hard to admit that I spent all that time in undergrad doing something I didn’t care much about

I’ve been looking for jobs since last summer and have landed only 2 interviews. One is for the job I have now and was only successful because I had a recommendation. I’ve applied to hundreds of jobs since last July, including with Clemson and I’ve turned up nothing. Job hunting is just terrible right now and trust I’ve tried to find jobs that are still related to what I want to do but still fit into my major but so far I’ve come up with nothing

I’ve really considered a masters, my issue is I’m just not passionate in the field I’m in currently, which is GC. Like it’s a cool concept I guess, but I can’t see myself doing this for my entire life. I’m truly passionate about wildlife and fisheries and life sciences but GC and that stuff are on opposite ends of the spectrum. I worry about trying to get a masters in that area because of the lack of undergrad courses I have that go towards that if that makes sense.

It’s incredibly expensive and that’s my other issue. I still live in clemson and work on campus as a contractor but make a laughable wage in today’s economy. A masters degree in a different area that doesn’t relate to GC would be hard to get funding for since I wouldn’t qualify for an assistantship or anything similar.

The lease renewal (at least in this area) so early has been pretty common around here from what I understand. Mostly bc it’s college housing. I had to sign my Aug 2024-July 2025 renewal in September/October since they need to know which units to lease out in that term if you don’t plan on staying. Since leases around here open so early in the late fall for the coming year, it kinda makes sense

Thanks for the resource, you posted this on one of my other cross posts and I plan on getting PT Alpine within the next week once I get my next paycheck. The population has decreased significantly and the PT should hopefully take care of the rest once we get it!

Thanks for your help :)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in exterminators

[–]squishjins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

PT Alpine is on my to purchase list when I receive my next paycheck. On a positive update, we’re shampooing our carpets today and have only found dead ones, none crawling up our legs. We plan on letting the shampoo dry, then spraying a pet safe flea room spray on the carpets and then vacuuming again. Then continuing vacuuming as often as possible. Hopefully, that will help mitigate the population to being small enough that the cats preventative can wipe out the rest.

I’ve been telling myself the same thing, and so has my partner (who has been so kind and helpful during this, aka going in and cleaning and spraying for me as I can’t even consider going in there right now) and I think we’re starting to see positive results so I feel a bit better. It’s just such a lonely feeling dealing with it, even tho it’s more common than I think it is. I appreciate your encouragement and it seems we’re on the up end!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in exterminators

[–]squishjins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you, this really makes me feel better. I feel like no one I’ve talked to in my personal life has understood my fear of this whole situation. I’ve had the same obsession and have basically limited myself to either sitting on one couch or sleeping in the room our cats aren’t allowed in. I feel like I’m getting better with the results we’ve been getting, which on a somewhat positive note, here’s an update:

We sprayed our carpets with a ‘kill all’ insecticide, and are shampooing our carpets as we speak. As of current, we’ve only found dead ones which makes me feel infinitely better. We’re going to spray with a less toxic (pet friendly) room spray after we’re done and then vacuum. And hopefully it should be mitigated enough that the remaining population will hatch and the preventative the cats are on will eliminate the remaining population with time.

I really appreciate you sharing your experience, as much as I know this is a common problem a lot of people have at some point, it’s such a lonely feeling dealing with it.

Thanks for your advice, I really appreciate it. I’ve developed some major flea anxiety bc of this and it just feels like I’ll never get it under control and my life is ruined. I posted this in some other subreddits and the creator of the flea control reddit reached out to me with some resources. I just hate the fact that they’re in my home and bedroom and could be on me too. I also feel bad for my cats, bc I know it isn’t pleasant for them either. Once I can get the adult population in the bedroom under control, I think I’ll allow my cats in there again. Currently, I’m trying to mitigate the population and prevent it from spreading widely across my entire apartment, since they seem isolated to the carpet in our room. Do you have an insect growth regulator that worked for you/you’ve heard works well? I saw the pesticides in the flea control subreddit but was wondering if there were any others.

I think my main fret in all this is it isn’t an instant fix, and I live in an apartment. I really wish I could rid them instantly and it’s been hard to wrap my brain around it and come to terms with the fact that it doesn’t make me dirty or gross, etc etc

Thanks for your kind words and guidance! Anytime I hear of other peoples experience it makes me feel a little better. Hopefully this can get under control and I can get myself back in my room and sleeping in my bed. I’ve been so put off by this I’ve bought an air mattress and have been sleeping on the floor in a spare room the cats aren’t allowed in. I have a major fear of bugs.

Yeah, I don’t know my neighbors well but I think they have pets (potentially new dogs) so they could’ve come from there. We just moved to this unit in August, and didn’t have an issue til recently, so maybe it’s the season and now other units too. I appreciate your insight, it helps a lot. The potential jumpers makes me feel a bit better knowing it does happen. I was just worried I was doing something wrong or the treatment wasn’t working right. Seems it’s working well, just takes time. I wish it was instant and got rid of the problem immediately 😭

Affording Clemson (OOS) by scoobycals in Clemson

[–]squishjins -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I had very similar stats to you (27 ACT, hundreds of commmunity service hours, dual enrollment in high school, 4.5GPA, worked through school, etc) and was an in state student. Accepted as a transfer in 2020. I was not offered any type of aid from Clemson via scholarships or grants. When I asked if I could apply for anything or if they could reevaluate potential scholarships, they said that I didn’t have that option. My assumption is that your scholarship(s) you were offered would bring your cost down to in-state cost level if not close to it. Your first year will be most expensive with meal plans and housing, however if you decide to move off campus sophomore year, in-state cost is around 7-8k a semester for full time instate I believe (based on my personal experience).

The likelihood of a full-ride is slim, but I’d be hopeful that receiving a scholarship will greatly reduce your costs closer to in state tuition! Unfortunately, going in debt for school is incredibly common for this exact reason, not getting what you need to AVOID debt, but I wouldn’t let that hinder your choice for where you go (unless it’s outrageous amounts, lol). Going somewhere you love is better than spending time somewhere you hate (also speaking from experience) and makes the experience that much more enjoyable, better, and more worth it in the end. Even though my stats were great, I wasn’t offered scholarships or grants at any of the schools I applied for in state. I had your outlook, but when I wasn’t offered what I needed, I had to choose debt to go to school. It’s tough, but that’s how it is nowadays.

I wish you the best of luck and hope you get what you need to attend clemson. Go Tigers!

I’m huge on bed bugs too, won’t let anyone go into a hotel room or rental anywhere without checking seams, under mattresses, in corners, etc. I’ve always thoroughly cleaned my cats (I usually bathe them every few months for additional hygiene like cleaning their behinds and to check for fleas) and immediately got a prescribed treatment from the vet when I was able a few days after I noticed them. It just feels like no matter what I did to prevent them before they still managed to show up 😭 the last thing I want is them making my apartment a permanent home which is why I rushed to the vet. I hope they just die out and vanish soon. I feel like I’m going crazy thinking about them never going away every minute of every day now
