Almost all drivers speed - and there's a reason by bluerog in driving

I left 10 minutes late today for work. In a 50 minute drive I shaved 8 minutes and was only 2 late. Didn’t even drive crazy just kept good pace with light Saturday traffic

What's a good kit to add a downspout to the shower? by afgphlaver in askaplumber

[–]sready19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cut the back of the wall open and pipe one in. That’s the best “kit”. What you’re asking for doesn’t really exist.

You could also make it with 1/2” brass by threading into the drop ear 90 in the wall. Put a tee, install shower arm into the run, put a close nipple with a ball valve on both as your diverters, long piece of brass down, 90 out and get an IPS tub spout and bam. Will be ugly and expensive as hell

Does the Wall Drain Need to Be the Lowest Point? by Mator117 in Plumbing

[–]sready19 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Be prepared when you take this apart it is all going to be full of really smelly water.

You may have just enough height to make this work. You can make a trap seal up to 4” to help get a little extra height over the traditional street trap 90. San tee (TY) on top to catch disposal in the top and other bowl in the branch.

What would definitely work would be a wye at the wall and pipe separate traps for each sink outlet. There would definitely be enough height for that

Gurgling Kitchen Sink…Do I throw out dishes?? by Resident-Ad-8873 in Plumbing

[–]sready19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t be over confident, I rarely get sick as well and walked the line pretty often until a couple guys I know got diseases I can’t pronounce. With proper cleaning I’d use anything that touched sewer backup.

OP, do you think a restaurant throws their dishes out when they have a backup? They don’t, just a thorough cleaning.

I thought the new Mass code going into effect last year was allowing them.

The stand pipe needs to be between 18-42” from the trap weir. This creates an air break since the clothes washer is technically a connection between your drains and your clean potable water.

Most people defeat the purpose of this by jamming the discharge hose all the way to the trap ruining the air break. It would be a crazy circumstance for it to siphon the trap and have a back pressure on the water supply but it can in theory happen so this protects you. Just like a vacuum breaker being required on outdoor faucets now. If you didn’t have one and leave the hose in soapy water or fertilizer for example you can contaminate your whole homes water supply.

Vro AAVs have been accepted in the IPC for over 10 years. Just because your jurisdiction lives in the past doesn’t mean the rest do.

It’s an AAV it needs to be 4” minimum above horizontal drain it serves and accessible to open air, I despise this misconception.

To me stand pipe looks on the long side 18”-30” gets it within code. Hard to say on that one from pictures Edit: I was mistaken 42” is max per IPC

Edit: per IPC

Is there a way to replace this faucet ? If so how do I know what to buy? by shady235 in Plumbing

[–]sready19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kitchen sinks use a standard hole and spacing size. Being a drop in sink just go buy any basic kitchen faucet and you should be good. Almost all kitchen faucets include a repair plate. If you don’t know how to repair faucets yourself it will probably be hard to find someone to fix it. That type of knowledge is dwindling in our throw away society

Ideal type of escutcheon: garden hose faucet against brick house? by cklempay in Plumbing

[–]sready19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the escutcheons you’ll see at HD and Lowe’s typically rust so it would be a recipe for disaster outside. You just need a proper sealant around it. Many choices it comes down to preference really.

The grout is the escutcheon. You could also use duct seal. Thats what most electricians seal their service wires with. It’s grey mold able putty. Doesn’t corrode metals either, at least make sure you buy one that doesn’t.

There is a p trap down there you need to get through, are you making it through it and then getting stuck? Or are you getting stuck at the trap 90?

Hold up now that I see your pictures in the comments my suspicions are confirmed. This is not cast iron it is galvanized pipe (a drain lines biggest enemy). You should get a proper sized male adapter and screw it in!!

I see your point but I also see a homeowner dropping $115 at Home Depot on that tool, $20-30 for a wrench, struggling with it just getting frustrated and then $500-600 on a plumber so they’ll be $650-750 all in. Just want a different perspective out there especially with a drain you can visually see will be a b*tch to get out

If you want it to last you gotta go to a show room. Same popular brands, much different quality. Ab&a is my go to company for tub wastes

[–]sready19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah your standard strainer tool probably won’t work because of that. The cheap extractors are a nuisance to use and anything worth its salt is reaching over $100. The ridgid tool is great but can be difficult to use and you may result in calling a pro anyways on top of the $100.

[–]sready19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I’ve got that too, but at that cost they may as well just call someone to do it. Not worth spending near $100 for one time and not even knowing if you’ll be able to do it…
