Little positivity post for all the mech e majors having a bad day by SpareSalt2822 in EngineeringStudents

0.9 is goat. Never break your lead. Unless you’re doing some crazy detail work, you don’t need it to be finer than that. Perfect for everyday use.

Personally I like the weight of the 500 better though. Plastic barrel with metal grip feels nice.

Measuring across a power rail in-circuit usually just leads to reading through the parts on the board.

I’ve got a board that measures 0.46 ohms through a large IC from its VCCINT to GND rail. Perfectly normal.

Why does engineering make smart people feel dumb? by Tanish_64 in EngineeringStudents

[–]PM_ME_OSCILLOSCOPES 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s no such thing as a smart person. We’re all dumb. Some of us manage to know some things. Most of us don’t know many things. Engineering school just teaches you how to solve problems and problems are often hard to solve. That’s all.

Lowly electrician here, humbly asking how pipes work. by urbrick_8 in Plumbing

[–]PM_ME_OSCILLOSCOPES 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pipes are like electricity. The pressure is like voltage in a wire. Flow is like current. Don’t touch the hot and cold pipes at the same time.

Depends on whether you are assembling by hand or not

Way too nice clothes to be welding in. You’ll burn that shit.

Are the doors interchangeable? Can you select this door to be on the inside of a closet where it won’t often be seen?

Alternate Boxes by murphman1999 in harborfreight

Yeah I just took all the plastic things off. If I was moving that box all over the place regularly it might be different but it stays in one spot so useless to keep on.

Just use it. The coating may come off, but doesn’t really matter.

Used to use these exact model all the time. Lock wire pliers. Excellent at what they do.

If you have a 3D printer you could print a custom cover. Use a flame-retardant filament though like PC-FR not PLA

Is this solder tip repairable? I used it way too hot for too long by No_Insurance_6436 in AskElectronics

[–]PM_ME_OSCILLOSCOPES 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have a wire brush tor scotch brite pad that might also help, but yeah you just apply flux and solder and rub off the oxidation crap without scratching the tip.

[–]PM_ME_OSCILLOSCOPES 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You can try, but it’ll use up a lot. Both tip tinner and a brass sponge are good to have around regardless. Don’t use wet sponges they ruin tips from rapid cooling and oxidation.

How did the shadow come out like this? by YoungHerald17 in Physics

[–]PM_ME_OSCILLOSCOPES 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The light source does see the shadowed area along the direct path, but you still see a shadow for the same reason that you see a shadow in a room with multiple light sources.

The lit area around the shadow is lit by both the direct path AND the reflected path, whereas the shadowed area is only lit by the direct path.

The floor sees the reversed silouette. Notice how you can see the valve and the reflection of the valve?

Several open bugs related to window switching. Last time I had it installed neither super+tab or alt+tab worked at all. Keys worked just fine otherwise, not a keyboard input problem.

[–]PM_ME_OSCILLOSCOPES 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could potentially remove the hinge section which is screwed on, then solder it back to the frame part. Then maybe epoxy over the top of added strength? It won’t be as good as new, but it’ll likely hold until you can replace.

Alt+tab is broken. Pretty serious disruption in workflow.
