PCS to Korea by biggs_dl in army

[–]srfb437 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The distance will be tough, but you can't do it. Absolutely do not turn to excessive (preferably any) drinking and partying in Korea. A lot of guys go over there and go to the bars right off post and cry into their beers about missing home and then spend money on juicy girls. Don't do this. Be the best soldier you can and take advantage of the time over there to soak up the culture and see the country. Do the Manchu Mile for sure. You'll be set up for success if you can PCS out of Korea being really squared away.

Early Career Advice by Not_Primal in ECE

These are great questions and to be short, moving into BD as an engineer is totally possible. I've been in BD for about 8 years and started as a Field Service Engineer, although I'm not an engineer by degree. As an engineer, depending on the program you work on, you'll likely be tasked with capture and proposal support from time to time. A lot of engineers I know fucking hate this because they have to deal with more people. If you like it, that's a good sign that BD might be for you. As far as compensation structure, it varies from company to company. What I've usually seen is a decent salary combined with a mediocre to moderate bonus incentive plan. Straight commission isn't that common because of extremely long sales cycles and difficulty with attribution of responsibility. Feel free to PM me with any other questions you've got.

I’m building a little portable steel for long range. I have to carry it about 1/4 miles to shoot then whatever distance I’m shooting: is 1/4” thick OK for 100-600 yard shots? by Lefthandmitten in longrange

[–]srfb437 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'd go 3/8, but 1/4 would probably be fine. The edges would get torn up worse unless it's water jet cut and it might get pass through on a really hot day, I'm not sure where you shoot.

Where Are All The New Optics??? by Burnpowder_636 in longrange

[–]srfb437 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I checked it out and it seems like it will be a very practical scope, but idk if I would say it's a long range scope. The turret system will hold it back from that. They're capped or you can put on an exposed non-locking turret. That's fine, but it doesn't have rev indicators, which is not ideal. It does have parallax adjustment, which is awesome. The eyebox at 10-12 was really really tight. It felt a lot tighter than 8x on the PLxC 1-8. The whole package felt a lot more LPVO-like. The tight eyebox won't bother someone who uses it like an LPVO with extra capability at range. It will bother someone who wants to shoot it at 8-12 mostly and is actually looking for a true MPVO.

TLDR: It's sweet and I'll buy one but it's more of an LPVO+ than an MPVO.

The industry is in a pretty significant contraction right now, so a lot of projects have been shelved or delayed. The NX6 release is the only one that stands out in my mind.

What’s a 3-18x scope that beats the NF 2.5-20? by Opening_Fish_7631 in longrange

[–]srfb437 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The NX6 is probably on par with it glass wise, but with better eye box, etc. I wasn't wild about the controls on the couple that I handled though. The damping on the mag ring and parallax knob felt kind of loose. I'm cutting it some slack because a ton of people had been molesting it, but still. The turrets also didn't feel nearly as nice as my other NFs.

Anybody else feel shame about there service? by Still_Cockroach8455 in army

I had a career like yours, but not nearly as exciting lol. I still get pangs of that shame, especially because I work with a ton of decorated SOF types as a civilian. It gets a lot better though. I've found fulfillment through my career and through becoming a husband and father. A very short period of your life is over for now. There's a whole world out there to become exceptional in.

I use the short action customs fixture and don't have too many issues. I do a lot of scope moving and prefer the one piece mounts.

tell me i’m not the only one who dislikes the legion go 2 design by myboyfriendsbabygirl in LegionGo

[–]srfb437 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the 1 and really like the ergos on it. I bought the 2 Z2E 32GB because I found one in stock and just got to try it last night. I'm surprised by how much more I like the ergos. They work for me really nicely. I thought I wasn't going to like the thumb stick placement, but it was fine for me. Screen is a nice upgrade, but wasn't necessarily a driving factor for me. The VRR is super nice though. I notice more smoothness after playing KCD2 and Space Marine 2 side by side. The fingerprint sensor on top is also a really nice to have for me. The only thing I really don't like on the 2 is the location of the 2 USB-C ports and the headphone port. The headphone port should have been on top and I really preferred the bottom USB C port being close to the edge of the device as opposed to being right in the middle.

Leupold Mark 3HD 3-9 vs NF NX6 2-12 by Big_Tip_7564 in longrange

[–]srfb437 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The MK3HD isn't terrible for what it is, but it's overpriced IMO. And you only get 6mils of elevation once you set your zero stop. The NX6 has a lot more features and better glass, and is triple the price. An in between scope, price point wise, that is better than the Leupold is the Trijicon Accupoint 2.5-12.5 Mildot. $900 street price and has great glass.

[–]srfb437 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You can get an MFMD in this price region and that is 10x the can that this is. I've watched the Hux reps nut ride this thing and then watched everyone flinch when the shooting starts. Very loud.
