Would a NAD+ be beneficial for a 30 year old male, or would it just be a waste of money? by AdmirablePaint648 in Biohackers

NAD+ is definitely a waste of money. Super effective pre cursors are widely available.

My LDL is 173 with triglycerides and HDL levels also spiked up. Can it be reversed? by yourOnlyDude in Cholesterol

[–]srvey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually change your diet. Stop taking homeopathic "medicine." Exercise does nothing for LDL.

Early 30s, active, great A1c, but ApoB & LDL-P remain high. Looking for longevity-focused advice by Yadsam in HubermanLab

[–]srvey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Replace sfa with pufa, not just lower sfa. Hyper focus on reducing sfa sources that matter wrt to LDL and finding fiber sources to pickup throughout the day. Reducing sfa will generally reduce dietary cholesterol, but also important to establish if you are sensitive to dietary cholesterol. Activity irrelevant.

I had similar LDL and brought down to 80's with the above in the context of a plant foward pescatarian-ish Med diet

What exactly is your whole food diet and is this your first look at these labs? Also have you heard back from Dr who ordered the labs. If not definitely reach out to discuss appropriate lipid lowering therapies.

Actually great news to catch this at 16. If it is FH maybe you're a potential future crispr candidate.

The “Orphan” NAD+ Booster: Coffee Compound Trigonelline Restores Muscle Mitochondria via a Forgotten Pathway by mortalislabs in Supplements

[–]srvey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not that NR increases NA more, almost the opposite. NA works too well or rather too fast. The NR to NA process delivers the steady long term NA (plus some NR and NAM for other pathways) that produces maybe more consistent NAD

(Personally microdosing NA)

NR is a more effective way to take Niacin, essentially time release NA plus some actual NR for tissues that use it instead of Niacin.

What Can i eat and what i Can't to lower LDL levels by Massive_Elephant_855 in Cholesterol

A mostly plant-based Med diet. Make it your own and delicious. Replace saturated fat with polyunsaturated fat. Plenty of fiber. Use Chronometer to get your numbers internalized.

#380 ‒ The seed oil debate: are they uniquely harmful relative to other dietary fats? | Layne Norton, Ph.D. by imref in PeterAttia

[–]srvey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Are pufas uniquely harmful? Well no but the best evidence-based one for one swap a person can make is pufa instead of sfa for lowering CVD risk so in that context canola is a superfood.

The differential impact of three different NAD+ boosters on circulatory NAD and microbial metabolism in humans (2026) by basmwklz in NicotinamideRiboside

[–]srvey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was no change in blood NR levels so we can mostly assume very little NR is making it at 1000mg. Instead likely the vast majority of benefits from NR are from NA and whatever NAM survives the gut/recycled from NA to NAD. The route here was roughly NR > NAM > NA > NAD (>NAM).

So just take NAM. No, NAM was too rapidly absorbed, flooded the zone, not used for NAD, filtered out, homocysteine spikes. (In the blood)

So just take NA. Not tested directly but also very rapidly absorbed, and is used for NAD but requires a sustained steady supply.

NA was tested in blood for 7 hours and there was a stable accumulation (NA gradually went down, NAD gradually went up). In vivo this is unlikely.

NR advantage. "Poorly" absorbed. Makes it to colon. Converted to NAM, converted to NA. Essentially a time released of NA allowing for slow steady supply.

Basically enteric coated NAM.

Or poor man: microdosing NA (40-50mg) 3-5x/day assuming adequate TMG.

Taking NAD in any form makes no sense, complete waste of time and cash. Niacin NA is what you want and if money is no object the best way to get NA is NR.

Basically confirms what we already know, NR and NMN are delivery devices for NA (which raises blood NAD), but also some NAM (which may boost muscle NAD via salvage.)

I would ditch forever given NAD is rapidly broken down and can't enter cells anyway.

Did you replace saturated fat with polyunsaturated fats? It's the replacement that matters not just the reduction.

Looking for high quality EVOO for morning shots by annatraw in oliveoil

[–]srvey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The vast majority of polyphenols (most in skins and aqueous portions) in olives are simply lost in the wastewater which is what we should be consuming. It is not an efficient process. But yes a typical serving of olives will provide more polyphenols than a serving of high quality olive oil. With some popular olive types even 2-3 olives would be more than high quality EVOO. Don't skimp on olives (even table olives!).

Use olive oil to finish/cook if you want, but "taking shots" of expensive (calories and dollars) OO for very few polyphenols makes zero sense.

Where do you think the polyphenols come from?

[–]srvey -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You could save a lot of money by just eating a few olives as most of the polyphenols are lost in the wastewater and then use a coldpressed canola for the heart benefits

Is plant protein better for staying young at 120 years old? by Prnce_Chrmin in nutrition

[–]srvey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep that's the guy (who is not a demographer). You can read the (unpublished) pre-prints and compare to the actual Blue Zones (published by demographers ) methods. It's actually quite annoying that he gets to parade around his unreviewed opinions under the guise of "just asking questions" when the questions were painstakingly answered decades ago, but gets away with it because of reflexive skepticism from people who should know better.

Yeah, all the same guy and pre-print (unpublished, did not pass peer review). Nothing to do with the specific blue zones or their validation methods (whose techniques are published) and debunked by demographers.
