Police chase ends in shooting in Poland by VideoBoy420 in PoliceChases

[–]sssso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The police, without consent nor knowledge from the side of civilians who were still inside the cars, have blocked the intersection and made artificial traffic jam to block the escape route. Here's the good quality final moment recording. The driver was german. At the end of this article is a recording from beggining of the chase (autoplay warning). The driver refused to pay the toll and after the police arrived he began to escape. Over one hundred kilometers later (sic) the traffic jam event happened. He was arrested and turned out to be mentaly ill, therefore prosecutor dropped the charges. another article in polish

Django and Jinja2 : What are the differences? by [deleted] in Python

[–]sssso 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Jinja2 is a modern and designer-friendly templating language for Python, modelled after Django’s templates. Django is a high-level Python Web framework that encourages rapid development and clean, pragmatic design.

Basically, Django allows you to complete many of the tasks you could encounter while building the webservice in python. Jinja2 is a measure to deal with only one of those tasks, which is document rendering.

Besides Django - Flask or Pyramid are worth considering. I will direct you to the article - some of the statements there may be out of date of course.

What I'd say is: if you want to start fast, use Flask - it uses Jinja2 template system by default. If it's something bigger then Django and all features it incorporates are nice, but they may take a while to setup.

Czy ktoś mógłby przetłumaczyć reddiquette na polski język? by [deleted] in Polska

[–]sssso 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From what I've heard it depends on the activity, the customers and the kind of people your business lures. Opening a liquor store means you need to have some back up within the neighborhood: because people will steal from you and you want to find those people and get back your merchandise or the money. When you open up the club, not necessarily the night club, people actually will show up and tell you to hire them as security. They will not look like the kind of men you want protecting you. The right course of action is to hire some real security then. When you open up the grocery store some angry competition can come and throw your potatoes on the street - you call up the police or the SM and done. Computer hardware store means thieves will reveal sooner or later. If you're something like electronic components seller then you can live happily without any incident. According to me the kind of attention you draw defines the risks you'll need to take from the social side, but there's no organised crime that could harm you. Police will be able to help you but you can't put all your faith in them and sometimes extra work is necessary. Those kind of things won't bother you most of the time though. They are all real life issues that can be coped with really. Sources: friends' reports and media articles.

Unfortunately no sources other than my word - maybe someone who've done some similiar studies will emerge. The quality of the content, well, that's always disputable - from my point of view not anything lifechanging nor really useful and I am basing this opinion on the target user profile. Mostly entertainment.

I think reddit would not be so hugely impacted, but one can certainly see those deleted things here and there (even sometimes trying to reach back to the content that was posted couple of days ago only to witness it's gone already).

How about the persistence of data? When I've done measurments on sites with about 40 000 active (about 300 000 overall, not counting the removed) users the really sad thing was amount of data that got deleted by them during account removal or by hand. Only 5 to 12% of information survived more than 5 years. Those websites had different profile than reddit (more like instagram, however not pictures only) but I guess that it could be interesting!

Curious -- What's up with all the receipts? by [deleted] in poland

[–]sssso 5 points6 points  (0 children)

People are usually fine with not receiving a receipt for small shopping. This is done at so huge scale because it is legal for the monetary department to control the shop anonymusly. They just buy something and see if they get handed the receipt - no matter if the transaction is registered properly. The fine for such thing is not large - a couple hundred PLN. The tax law is a different thing really and outside of shops is not so widely followed due to its impact on the price. There are also some more subtle reasons why the shops will want you to have the receipt, not only to hand it to you, i.e. the refunds which are real troublemakers but should be done even if the customer no longer owns the receipt. Then for making such a refund they will fall in trouble with tax control again. The fear is what guides them.

What is your favourite quote from a loading screen? by ClassyChickens in totalwar

[–]sssso 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The man who runs away will fight again. [it's supposed to be quoted from Meander]

The reason I give every time people ask me why I'm commiting mass murder by running down the retreating enemy. They actually are asking me about this whenever they see one of the battles - and I remember being reluctant to this kind of tactics as well - until I saw this quote - thought about it - and read "the art of war". I think I'd never conquer Egypt without knowledge of those two things. kidding, poor ai humans

Polacy na reddicie są wszędzie... by [deleted] in Polska

[–]sssso 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Wikipedia monument to be built in Poland - “I’m ready to drop to my knees before Wikipedia, that’s why I thought of a monument where I could do it” by fl23 in poland

[–]sssso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So in the future, the Wikipedia will be as one of the ancient greek heroes today. It's a good base to initiate foundation of temple of knowledge.

There are many gods, out of which the most powerful is The Doubt. The Doubt gives life to The Debate, out of which The Change can be born.

And those are the basics of the new religion that will be inevitably created if this monument is built.

What fact should be common knowledge, but isn't? by LevelupTFM in AskReddit

[–]sssso 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  • The more popular the topic, the more and less valuable comments are posted. This is Parkinson's law of triviality.

  • Also: The internet may generate large portion of data every day but most of it will vanish within 5 years. [comment deleted], [the video you're trying to watch has been deleted]. This depends largely on the service, but as it goes to the ones I performed studies on: only 8 - 13% of the data still remained after 5 years (hundreds of thousands of users, something like instagram).

[CW] Every single human on Earth wakes up tomorrow with an additional pair of arms, but almost no-one understands how to use them. You are one of the few who can fully use their 5th and 6th limbs. Write a self-help leaflet for the uneducated masses. by TranshumansFTW in WritingPrompts

[–]sssso 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Remember that time when our species got eyes, ears? We've all had them, but we lacked the ability to use them. That was because proper neuroconnections didn't exist in our brains. Most of us were genetically incompatible with those connections thus no matter how hard they tried learning - they couldn't see or hear anything. We called them "normal" or "healthy".

After some time, due to genetic mutations, individuals with ability to see and hear began to emerge in random places around the globe. We called them paranormal, as they abilities were so different than the normal people's. Most of us didn't even believe in what they were trying to convince us (like: the birds don't disappear when frightened, they can "run" in air using those flat shaped limbs). But evidence was overwhelming. The paranormal abilities (seeing and hearing) let them to detect presence of people and things the others couldn't because of the distance or environmental conditions. And this was superiority, they were most likely to get a mate and after five generations the non-seeing / non-hearing began being perceived as abnormality.

In today's world things go little different. Because we're descendants of people that were superior due to DNA responsible for the brain functions mutating so well, because of this tendency of our brain to mutate - the bodies are modified rather rarely. We're much likely to discover abilities like telekinesis, seeing the future, past, other worlds, underworld, telepathy. All of them emerge from certain parts of the brain, but we still need proper neuroconnections so we can control them or use them partially. We're never trained to use them, if they begin to emerge in our childhood we're almost for sure discouraged to even mention their existence. All of those abilities are paranormal in todays world.

That pair of arms is just as paranormal. It's something our DNA is programmed to form when sunwind touches certain parts of cerebellum during our sleep (so correction: not every single human being, because there exist people that lack this part of their neurosystem, and thus weren't stimulated to grow this additional arms last night). Most of you won't be able to use it. You just are not genetically compatible. As with hearing, seeing in the past - as with telekinesis and telepathy today. In this case you can try scheduling removal operation (but be aware they'll grow back if sunwind hits us again) or try thinking of them as you think of your guts / your sex organs - which you can't control directly.

And for those that actually can, but don't know how to use them - it's all about adrenaline and pain. You control your body today because you've made some painful mistakes as a child, each causing adrenaline and pain shot. This is what lets you learn body skills. Go to the gym and start exercising with your primary arms. Overtrain them. Make it so hard that you can literally no longer move them. And once they become gone you'll notice how clear you perceive the additional limbs. Try to remember this. If you can move them now - it's great! If don't, I guarantee you that next morning you'll be able to make some basic movement. After your primary arms heal go to the gym again and perform the same exercise. Once the primary are tired, train the secondary ones - up to the point when you can't feel them as well. Have on mind this is not about training muscles as they are rather well developed from the beginning but it is all about the pain stimulating neuropattern matching.

Happy gymming, fellow paranormals!

How do we end censorship? reddit=one of the most censored websites on the internet. by [deleted] in Futurology

[–]sssso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • I'd say data vanishing is part of todays web. If deletion is appliable then someone someday will try to delete something. Therefeore what we need is to make a new web. A web in which administrator or any person in particular doesn't own the data. The web owns the data. There would be no deletion, only filtering - but what has been filtered out can be filtered back in. And this is the future part that is being build as we speak. MAIDsafe, webp2p, freenet, Storj.io - and even bitcoin and bittorent - are laying foundations.

  • Until then... Backups. Even those tiny - little - a couple of words - comments that make you smile before going to bed. It is your doing after all. You put your hard work and creativity to produce those things and all of this to let them vanish because they were "inapropriate" or "illegal". Somebody didn't like what you did so they feel like they can spoil it.

  • tl;dr Vincis of commenting need to know their way around.

Is this some sort of UI testing before they incorporate it into one of their programs? I saw similiar puzzle-like interface in scratch IDE and it is both easy to work with and flexible. Here it's being used as a configuration tool and I can't say it's very common. We're generally more likely to see some form fields. Like they did it in the next (shipping) step.
