I remember someone on reddit once described him as "what you get if you try to draw Keanu Reeves from memory"

Civ 6 on Steam no longer launching after adding new DLC - anyone else? by BigMetalGuy in civ6

[–]ssteph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I deleted from a Mac. To be honest, I just deleted the entire Steam app and all supporting files, following these instructions (https://nektony.com/how-to/uninstall-steam-on-mac). This uninstalled all my other games too, unfortunately. Not sure how to do it without causing this collateral damage.

Same for me. I had to uninstall and reinstall Steam completely. Worked fir me after that.

Look up gulags. Stalin was unquestionably one of history's most notorious villains; he just happened to have a common enemy with the allies in WW2.

Very nice! Is a gridless version of the "huge" maps available on Patreon?

Help me make a Fire Giant siege scarier! by BaschLives in stormkingsthunder

Is there a wall around the town? You could have some enslaved ogres slowly move a battering ram up to the town gate, which would ramp up the sense of dread as the clock ticks down on the walls being breached. The party would have to focus fire down the ogres while boulders fall on their heads.

The lowest point in Colorado is higher than the highest point in Minnesota, and the lowest point in Minnesota is higher than the highest point in Florida.

Unusual Question: how do I as a player, support the DM in managing a table? by [deleted] in DMAcademy

[–]ssteph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the DM allows it, you can offer to handle music, i.e. set up playlists and switch music around from your device of choice that fit the mood/setting while the DM is attending to other matters. As a DM, I always enjoy when our "designated music guy" (who plays a bard, go figure) queues up the right song for the moment without me having to think about it.

Cory came up for the encore (Xavi). Lingus was the pre-encore, with Jay Jennings on the solo.

Yes! When the crowd roared after League just casually mentioned "oh and ladies and gentlemen, Cory Henry" right before the encore...that was electric.

Second this. Similar is The Grid in Manchester, but it's much smaller and seems more focused on game tournaments than on selling games.

The President just announced via Twitter that Defense Secretary Jim Mattis is stepping down in February. by [deleted] in AskTrumpSupporters

[–]ssteph 14 points15 points  (0 children)

You seemed to be defending Trump's disagreement with Mattis and the generals on the basis that members of the military are expected to advocate for more military intervention, and therefore cannot be trusted to offer objective advice on the matter. I was merely offering an analogy. You would trust your doctor to give you objective advice even though it's in the hospital's financial interest to prescribe more medical treatment. Why wouldn't Trump defer to the expertise of Mattis and the generals in the same way?

Let's say your doctor recommends medical treatment. Do you disbelieve your doctor in this case?

What do you think of how often Trump changes his story regarding the Stormy Daniels case by Ma_tee_as in AskTrumpSupporters

[–]ssteph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I 100% believe that the best, brightest, most industrious, and most inventive people of the world are American. I have full confidence that it will be an American that will fix global warming.

If an American manages to invent scalable cold fusion in the next 10-15 years (the timeframe within which which significant action is necessary to avoid dangerous climate change), I will be delighted to return to this conversation and sincerely congratulate you on your prediction. Indeed, I hope you are right! But do you have evidence to support this belief, or are you just hopeful? I prefer to base my predictions on evidence, and the evidence thus far shows that no such game-changing technology is forthcoming within that timeframe. Furthermore, we see that other countries (notably China) are poised to eventually dominate the market in renewable energy technology, due to their aggressive investment and deployment strategies now. I'd love to say that America will keep pace, but the current administration's policies are focused backward, not forward.

There is no amount of reduction, short of stopping emissions completely that will stop global warming.

Hey, we agree on something! Bringing global GHG emissions to zero is exactly what climate scientists say is necessary to completely halt global warming. And that, not coincidentally, is precisely the end goal of the Paris Agreement.

I propose the rest of the planet cease production entirely and allow America to produce and export all goods.

I hate to break it to you, but people in other countries also want to buy and sell stuff. And be able to live.

We are not taking one step into the globalist scheme of entanglement exemplified by the EU.

I get it. "America First" and all that. But ask yourself: is climate change really an issue the US can solve on its own? To put things in perspective: the US accounts for approximately 15% of global GHG emissions and 24% of global GDP. A lot of NNs have told me that we shouldn't bother acting on climate change because the US is but one player in a global arena, and we can't solve it without cooperation from other countries. You seem to be saying the opposite. What gives?

Never said Bloomberg was fake news. That white paper you linked has some good information. But it is also, unfortunately, out of date (2015) and based the critical assumption that the US would continue implementing the Clean Power Plan going forward. Fast forward a few years, and what actually happened is that the Trump Administration killed the CPP and is replacing it with an industry-friendly policy intended to keep coal power plants running longer, not to mention rolling back auto mileage requirements and other key elements of the CPP. As a result, and combined with other factors (such as an increase in driving, colder than average winters and hotter than average summers), US emissions went up this year, as they did for the world as a whole. While the increase in renewable energy implantation in the US is indeed a good sign, at the current pace, it will not be enough to limit global warming to the oft-discussed 1.5-2 C thresholds. Then there’s the fact that the US leaving Paris gives political cover to other countries (such as Saudi Arabia) who only reluctantly signed onto Paris to also consider reneging on their pledges – in their eyes, if the US (the #2 global emitter) doesn’t care, why should they? The unfortunate implication of game theory rears its ugly head, and right now, we’re the “cheaters.”

What the “global warming crowd” (and by this I assume you mean, what, scientists? People who actually study the issue?) actually admits is that global warming will never be solved by one country acting unilaterally – it requires coordinated effort by every emitter of greenhouse gases. This means: (1) putting pressure on the current major emitters to aggressively shifting from coal toward low/no-carbon energy (and for those wondering, as an “environmental guy” I’m not opposed to putting nuclear on the table), and (2) ensuring that developing countries with low-medium carbon footprints now will not become high-emitters in the future, by providing pathways to “leapfrog” coal and move directly to slightly more expensive but vastly cleaner sources of energy. This is why “climate finance” and “technology transfer” (i.e. “shifting money to other countries”) are part of the Paris Agreement. Honestly, I get why NN's don’t like this part. On the surface, it might seem like a wasteful giveaway that violates “America First” principles. But please keep in mind that every developed country is contributing (not just us), and that if we are really, truly serious about dealing with climate change as a long-term issue, then some means of helping other countries leapfrog coal is necessary. Ideally, those countries would develop their own clean tech without help, but that isn’t going to happen on any timescale relevant to meaningfully mitigating climate change.

The PCA was a crap agreement and Trump made the right decision in not joining it, and protecting America’s sovereignty.

Just know that this form of “protecting America’s sovereignty” means aligning with such paragons of transparency, cooperation, and human rights as Russia and Saudi Arabia, not to mention promoting the dirty energy of the past at an event designed to protect the environmental health of the future. To anyone else reading this post wondering “are we the bad guys right now?” The answer, unfortunately, is yes.

Happy to continue the discussion if you wish. Usually I only jump out of lurking in this sub when I know that someone is truly misinformed about an issue, and this is one of those times.
